😈✨🍺MrTenant's Tavern and Dungeon

My daughter has told us that Easter Monday is a holiday in parts of Europe (she was in Amsterdam this weekend).
It indeed is. Christmas and Easter are still holidays. I recall reading tat there used to be more double holidays - probably before industrialisation.

Howdy.

You folks celebrate Easter over multiple days? Interesting. It's pretty much a single-day holiday here.
I thought the same thing, but then, as I thought that biblically speaking, it was a three-day event, it sort of makes sense.

We have 4 days.

Good Friday, Easter Saturday, Easter Sunday and then a Bank Holiday for the Monday.

Back to it tomorrow.
Quite the same, but Saturday is not a holiday, though. It's a normal Saturday. Just the other three are holidays.

But 1st day of Easter is the Sunday, and 2nd day is Monday.

Just like Christmas has 2 days. (Though here we celebrate already on the eve of...) Even some other holidays has 2 days in the past. Midsummer, I think, and Pentecost, and wouldn't be surprised if All Saints' Day was ob the list too. It's so old history though, that most people don't know about it.

for people who are observant and belong to a faith community that observes Holy Week it's 4 days here (in the US) too. With people going to services all 4 days.
Maundy Thursday
Good Friday
Easter Vigil
Easter Sunday (with some doing Sunrise services and regular services).
If you are clergy it is a huge marathon.

But you are right, from a secular perspective it's just Easter Sunday and it's an excuse for a family meal and an Easter egg hunt.

Here Thursday isn't that special. Though all days starting from Palm Sunday have their special names.

And Good Friday and Easter Monday are free days even if you're secular. So it's a good excuse to go skiing in Lapland (still season there!), or do whatever you want to do over a long weekend.

Learn somethin' new every day - thanks, folks!

I'm on medication and my wife is watching me like a hawk so no booze during this fucking gout flareup. N/A beer is infinitely better than it used to be but it obviously is not what I want. I'd kill for a nice glass of cabernet.
You can drink as much as you want at this bar. Wanna cabernet?
