A few moviesL

Finished up Hot Pursuit, a female 'buddy action/comedy' starring Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara. This was completely surprising because it was delightful! You can poke holes in the plot, but the chemistry is sterling, the humor is funny and 'on-point' and the script flows naturally. A little gem.

Next, a first viewing of an old TV movie: The Quick and the Dead - based on Louis L'Amour's 1976 novel, not the dozen or so other books/movies with the same title. This is an excellent film, with an easy to follow plot throughline.

The excellence comes from the relationships, between Beautiful Kate Capshaw, her husband Tom Conti, and Sam Ellliot, the stranger who helps them because of his own agenda.

The production quality is as good as any feature western, and this shows you why Sam Eliot is a star. Awesome flick!

Next, a second viewing of Edge of Tomorrow, a fabulous, intelligent Sci-fi action thriller starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt. The action is great, but the script is king - easily keeping you with the storyline.

Comparisons can certainly be made to 'Groundhog Day,' but they will soon fade away as the filmmaker Doug Liman deftly handles the repetition - you don't ever feel it's repetitive, but it's often humorous. A great movie.

Some movies:

Fatman, starring Mel Gibson as Santa Claus. This is an unusual flick. It works marvelously, because the script and the actors play it straight - no mugging or winking at the audience. It's well thought out, and maintains its tone throughout.
It may not be the new 'It' Christmas movie, but it's a great watch.

Next was a revisiting of Hot Shots Part Deux. In its own way, it's at least equal to the first. Stupid and laugh-out-loud funny. What more could you ask for?

Now I'm halfway through yet another revisiting of the fabulous Mr. & Mrs. Smith. This is a colossally favorite movie, with only a minor suspension of disbelief needed - once you buy into the improbable premise. Smart, witty, with tons of well-choreographed action.
My own favorite line is not necessarily the best: "These doors do come in handy."

I was so meh about this movie before I saw it, my partner threw it on me and I have to concur it was a good movie 🤣
