For Halloween, @crazychemgirl gave us a Sweet 16 tournament of tricks and treats. I am blatanyly and unapologetically stealing that idea but for Holiday Movies.

16 movies enter the candy cane cage, the Jingle Dome! After four rounds and 15 head to head battles, one movie will emerge as the Playground's choice for the GOAT of Ho-Ho-Holiday Cinema.🎄📽🐐

To qualify, each film needed to be a feature length movie with a theatrical release, and have a link to the holidays (even if a bit tenuous) so no Charlie Browns, no Rudolphs, no Hallmark, no Netflix. If there's enough response, I might consider doing a small screen version.

The bracket is below. I have included a variety of classic and more recent choices. Some are my personal favourites and at least two I absolutely loathe. Don't see a movie you believe should have been included, well that's just the way the gingerbread crumbles. But feel free to air your grievances in the Festivus Tradition!

Battle #1
Elf
vs
Scrooged

In this corner, the hilariously cringy homage to holiday movies. And in the opposite corner, the modern take of the classic Dickens tale (one of three in the bracket).

Let's get ready to rumble!

This is a genuinely tough one but I am more likely to watch Elf every year than I am Scrooged.

So Elf you Cotton Headed Ninny Muggins!

I just can't, this is real Sophie's choice situation you've put forth straight out of the gate!!!! I'll need some to list the benefits of both.

Elf... Elf has... Elf has Bob... Bob Newhart as the narrator.

Scrooged... two words: Carol. Fucking. Kane.

Ed Asner was outstanding as Santa in Elf.

Bill Murray dealing with ghosts... Classic 80s cinema!
