“Write what you know” inspires author

“Write what you know” is something I sometimes struggle with. For example, I am terrified of horses but I like writing fantasy stories that have lots of horse riding.

But what if an author took this very seriously, only wanting to write about what she or he knows and they want to get into erotica?

1. Woman knows the taboo genre is pretty popular. Now, straight up incest can’t be sold on mainstream sellers...but she doesn’t have any step-siblings or parents. Also, she doesn’t think her familywould just seduce her out of the blue but she wants to know how she would feel if she got involved in that kind of encounter.

A. She decides to be subtle. Maybe she asks relatives to be honest about her appearance, dresses in her underwear around her dad, asks to give and receive massages. She hopes she can nab up a relative to make the first move.

B. She’s upfront with her intentions but doesn’t ask for sex. For example, she asks her brother to read some dialogue to her so she would know how she felt (calling her a slut, ordering her to strip, etc). She eventually asks him to lie on top of her (clothed) and mimic sex with her...but by this point, the two are so turned on, they wind up having sex.

Alternatively, she has relative disassociate by having them just telling her what they would do if they had a woman to do with what they want. At first she just listens then starts following along and doing what she’s asked.

C. She asks for sex and after weighing the pros and cons the relative/s fuck her.

2. Above but with a male author. Can he find someone?

3. BDSM pretty simple: author hits up a club and gets a master or mistress

4. Gay/lesbian: author has always identified as straight but they want to accurately capture what a sane sex encounter would be like. Author could find new things about themselves or still identify as straight but have a memorable/fun encounter

5. Nonhuman (in the sentient, rules approved variety): author goes out trying to fuck a vanpire, a werewolf, big foot, alien, etc. What do they do to try and succeed? Do they find a monster to fuck?

6. Exhibitionist: author goes out in the nude...and accidentally gets locked out.

Personally, your idea resonates well with me. I really like the idea of a character who wants to write about a taboo sexual fantasy but can't get seem to get started on the story who then decides she needs some kind of personal experience to relate with. It's an excellent plot for easing a character, who is otherwise of a more naive and innocent personality, into daring acts of eroticism they wouldn't normally think about.

If the story were written well, I think it would also carry the reader along with it. For instance, I have absolutely no interest in the whole incest fantasy. However, the idea of a girl who decides to do a bit of cautious 'research' along these lines in order to inform her writing and ends up with a situation spiralling out of control ... for some reason this sounds very enticing.

Thank you. I will admit I did a taboo topic since it would be a bigger stretch and the author, like you said, would find the situation spiraling out of control.

It could start with her trying to roleplay it with someone, finding it just doesn’t work, then branching out into finding escorts who are or look related to watch or join in on...then trying to seduce a relative. Maybe she even tried to trick one (gloryhole, pretends to be an escort, etc). However, all the people she practiced with haven’t forgotten her and track her, knowing what she’s up to and pushing her to go further.

For non taboo, I think exhibition would also work. It’s something that could spiral out of control easily and is sometime if more unique (everyone’s experimented a little, not everyone’s gone nude in public).
