Whatever you may think of the actress, Natalie Portman, watching her performance in this film, portraying, Madonna, Marilyn Monroe, Gene Kelly and Charlie Chaplin, as a child actor, to me was absolutely spellbinding. Not to speak of a dozen other scenes in that film. She was, after all, just a child and could not know of whom she was mimicking.

Jean Reno, a French actor, so very talented, I recall from “Wasabe”, and “Jet Lag”, and many, many more films, also, is one of the small pleasures of my life.

You need not comment….just another ‘journal’ entry of mine to record thoughts…

This is one of my all-time favorites (and probably the best of it's genre). The kills get a bit ridiculous, but the suspense portion was very well done. Watching the crooked FBI get theirs was most satisfying. Not only was Reno excellent and Portman brilliant, but Gary Oldman was perfect in his role. The director walked a fine line between affection and something quite distateful in the relationship (I understand that the book wasn't quite as PC). Any time I'm flipping channels and see this on, I stop and watch until the end.

I'm agreeing with Des and ami. Most certainly, this isn't a political thread. :D

Yes, her talent was apparent even then. The part where she stands at his door, and silently implores him to let her in is a great acting moment.

Same here. I'll also stop on Ronin, with Reno and Robert Di Niro. Portman was excellent in the Professional, as she was in a small role in Cold Mountain.

Never saw Cold Mountain, but yes to the other two movies. Jene Reno is one of my favorite actors. I love watching him as he can do so much with just his eyes, and when he uses anything more he is even better. Even his part in Frendh Kiss was very well done. the smirks he gets when chasing down Luke are just brilliant.

And I don't know why people hate Natalie Portman. She has been in some bad movies, but she has always acted well in them. Maybe it's because good acting doesn't work with bad actors in a bad movie?
