Okay, this is an idea I've been messing around with for some time. I'm still a little unsure whether any one will be interested, so I've decided just to post a little information before going any deeper.

Are you sick of trying to kill that stupid dragon, who you know you'll be very very very disadvantaged against? Here's your answer. Be the dragon!

Short answer: a thread where some, most, or all of the PCs are dragons. There will be a whole heirachy of the dragons, but each and every (No exceptions!) dragon is a member of the same dragon "colony", which bases itself on a neutral alignment. However, this doesn't mean that all the dragons are neutral - in fact, quite the opposite. A dragon's feelings about good, evil and the balance between them is based on his/her colour. There are exceptions to this, but there are only few. I will post a bit more about that if anyone's interested, but the only dragon colour that is completely neutral is the Grey - the most rare of all dragons, as it can only be born as the child of a Black and a White dragon - the colours which are at the most extreme of the Good/Evil scale and hence are the most conflicted of any two colours. (By the way, the children of Grey dragons are always mutants who are killed at birth for their difference to other dragons) So, as it is, there is only one Grey dragon at this point in time - one of the oldest of the dragons, and, funnily enough, played by me. He is basically the leader of the whole colony.

And to the story: The other races in the world (Humans, Elves, Dwarves, you name it) have only recently discovered that the mythical "dragons" do actually exist - and, in fear of the unknown and the hugely powerful, have banded together to try to wipe the dragons from the face of the Earth. This causes a lot of conflict between the dragon council, as to how to respond to this: the dragons must fight off the invaders, and avoid fighting amongst themselves - and, to top it all off, the sole Grey dragon of the colony is growing old, and never in the history of Dragonkind has there been no grey dragons - a fear which they now face, as well. This three-pronged conflict for the dragons is beginning to tear their colony apart...

So, are you interested? Post character bios, questions, etc. Whatever, you're all allowed to join. Just keep in mind what I've said. Oh, and you can PM me if you have anything further to say/ask.

Have fun.

This idea sounds interesting to say the least. I am in , but would like a little more character information on the dragons. Are they able to cast spells, polymorph to a human, ect...? What are the other colors and their political leanings (lol)

Chewey

uh dude their f***ing dragons!!!what do you think for crying out loud!but any way i'm am also in

Ok, good to see some people are interested. I'll now post some extra detail for you. Anything I forget to say, ask away, either here or in a private message.

First off, to chewey's question about abilities. All dragons have the ability to cast spells, but the types of spells and their strengths depends on the dragon's colour. Most dragons can polymorph, but such spells require intense concentration, and so cannot be used "on the spot". I'll explain that a little bit later; right now I'll get onto the colour question.
Almost any colour imaginable can exist, because a dragon whelp inherits its colour from a mix of its parents (So, for instance, if a red and a white dragon mated, the result would be a pink dragon). Of course, if the adults are of the same colour, the child will also be that colour (Except greys, in which the child is a mutant and will be executed straight away).

However, certain colours are considered higher in the social status. As said earlier, grey dragons are the highest, for they embody everything the colony stands for, and hence are the leaders of the colony. The other "prime" colours are the following: red, blue, white, black, green, and yellow/gold. The eldest of each of these colours is a representive of a kind of "Dragon council", and, along with the grey, who is the head of this council, discuss and argue about issues in society, much like governments in our own world.

The alignments of dragons GENERALLY go by their colour, and in the following order (From extreme good to extreme evil)... In brackets after the colour is a general personality of that colour, but, again, not all dragons are the same.

White (Lawful, Heroic, basically the pinnacle of "goodness")
Blue (Much like whites, except slightly more of a judge than the jury, and tend to be more "thinkers" than "doers")
Green (The most peaceful of all dragons, though cares little about good or evil and tends only slightly to the former)
Grey (Considered the wisest (Just a touch wiser than the Blues), and most glorious of all dragons)
Gold (Golds are the most independent and selfish of all the dragons, their main priority is their own survival)
Red (The most aggressive of all the dragons, often very fiery and hot-headed. Loves destruction.)
Black (Their hearts are the same colour as their scales. The most scheming and evil of all the colours.)

The "hybrid" colours, as all other colours are called, do not have high positions in society, and so their personalities and alignments vary a lot. Some simply adopt the behaviour of one of their parents, others make their own personality.

Now, back onto abilities. I will write the abilities/types of spells of the "prime" colours only, but the "hybrids" generally inherit abilities from each of their parents - though the father's side tends to be somewhat stronger in their children.

White - Regeneration, Protection, Polymorphing.
Blue - Clairvoyance, Polymorphing, Cold
Green - Regeneration, Mind control, Polymorphing.
Grey - All or most of white's, all or most of black's (All if that colour is their father, most if it is the mother)
Gold - Polymorphing, Lightning, Regeneration
Red - Fire, Fear, Largest and physically strongest of all dragons, with the exception of the grey.
Black - Fear, Mind Control, Polymorphing.

So, does that answer your question? Again, if you have any further questions, feel free to ask.

oooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhkay.........wait do the dragons look different or the same

I would imagine since this is your thread and the Grey Dragon to boot , that you are going to pretty much DM this? It would seem like with how powerful all these dragons can be, that we would need a mediator so we dont get out of hand.

Chewey

Let's talk physicality. I've seen dragons range from skyscrapers to small pets. You going to put a limit, or is there going to be some sort of general dragon size.
I would imagine since they can all breed with each other that they are at least similiar in size.
Also, wings. Legends have dragons with wings and without, you going to make a preference or not?
Are you going to make a history of this as well? Did the dragons not want to be known by all the other creatures for a reason? Or, did they not know about the humans and elves and such, just as they didn't know about the dragons. Was some sort of agreement made a long time ago to hide themselves?
Do dragons have some sort of purpose? What do they do all day?
I mean, if they have a council to decide things, then they must do something more than just sleep and eat.
You said this was all one dragon clan? Does that mean there are others? Do we all agree on things as a species, or is it like every clan for themself?

Just a few things I'm curious about.

whoa whoa whoa dude!lemme tell you somthing about dragons...it dosnt matter!dragons had an soul pupose in life on earth and that was to give people stories to think and/or talk about not to confuse!

Personally, it doesn't matter.
But if we are all going to role play, and be dragons and have a plot and conflict and everything, we'll need to get some things cleared up.

Okay, okay, I guessed someone would ask these sorts of questions. I'll go through each of your questions one by one, just so there is no confusion.

oooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhkay.........wait do the dragons look different or the same

All the dragons look different, but there is a limit to how different. I'm talking traditional dragon appearance, not the sorts of crazy things out of, like, Chrono Cross (But for the White/Sky and Black, those dragons sucked). Think of it like this: all humans look different, but generally all have two arms, two legs, and a head. The same applies to dragons: while some will be bigger or have a longer tail or have different coloured eyes, they will all be (roughly) similar.

I would imagine since this is your thread and the Grey Dragon to boot , that you are going to pretty much DM this? It would seem like with how powerful all these dragons can be, that we would need a mediator so we dont get out of hand.

I will take the same position I do with all threads I make - I consider the thread just as much mine as it is anyone who is playing it. So, out of character, you guys are free to make any plot twists or give your opinion on stuff as much as you like. But IN CHARACTER, the sole Grey Dragon of the colony generally runs the whole show. The other dragons in the council are more like advisors. And, while some other dragons often will challenge the grey dragon's leadership (In particular reds), greys are generally the biggest, strongest, and overall most powerful of all the dragons. And my character is no exception. Heh.

Let's talk physicality. I've seen dragons range from skyscrapers to small pets. You going to put a limit, or is there going to be some sort of general dragon size.

There is a general dragon size, and that is very large. Of course, they're not born that way - whelps take some 100 or so years to grow fully, and start at maybe the size of a human 5 or 6 year old child. It's hard to put a cap on it, because its hard to imagine these sorts of sizes, but I'd say a fully grown dragon (And remember reds are larger, and greys larger still) would be some 50 to 100 times the size of a human. I'm having trouble picturing that, so it might be a bit crazy... let me know what you think.

Also, wings. Legends have dragons with wings and without, you going to make a preference or not?

Wings, wings, and more wings! Er... yes, dragons in this world do have wings - they are born with them, but don't learn to use them until they're nearly fully grown.

Are you going to make a history of this as well? Did the dragons not want to be known by all the other creatures for a reason? Or, did they not know about the humans and elves and such, just as they didn't know about the dragons. Was some sort of agreement made a long time ago to hide themselves?

Now, this is something I haven't given a lot of thought towards. But, I would say that the dragons did previously know about the other races. But dragons are very intelligent animals (At least, most of them), and knew something about the psychosis of humans - and knew that such a conflict that is occuring now would happen if their identity was revealed. So, they've pretty much stayed hidden in their mountain range at "the end of the world" as such, with huge underground cavern systems. Occasionally a dragon would grow tired of being cramped up in caves all their long, long lives and would fly free; but their basic instincts of survival made them keep to night time, and as far away from observant eyes as possible. This led to many, many myths of giant birds and such amongst the others of the realm, but they were thought not to be true, until something (Haven't thought of this yet) alerted them to their presence.

Do dragons have some sort of purpose? What do they do all day?

Okay, this is a very interesting topic. As described above, feeding and sleeping does sound like all they do. Many of the more robust colours of dragon (such as reds) have argued for eons that dragons should go and basically eliminate the entire rest of the people of the world and take control of it for themselves. However, such dragons have always been in a minority group, and the more peaceful dragons (Blues, greens) think their existence is happy, enjoying the simple pleasures of talking and thinking. Strange creatures, huh?

You said this was all one dragon clan? Does that mean there are others? Do we all agree on things as a species, or is it like every clan for themself?

To the best knowledge of the original dragon colony, there are no other "groups" of dragons in the world. Every dragon in the world belongs to this colony, or at least used to. A few of the more troublesome, robust dragons have left the colony, and taken up residence somewhere else in the world (Mountains are their prefered habitat), but as of yet none of these have formed a new colony (That is, to the best knowledge of the original dragon group... if you have an idea for something like another colony, feel free to tell me about it)

Ok, is that everything? Phew. I hope I cleared some stuff up for you. Feel free to give your feedback/opinions/suggestions people. PM me or post it here.

Hi DW,

I hope that you are still taking newcomers.

Interesting concept.

One question: When we post characters, and if we choose the base/prime colors, can we be on the council or the choice for the council is left to you as the DM?

Thanx.

I'm in if it is not closed yet.

Hey Zircon, I dont think the main thread has even been started yet. So far we are all still feeling out the idea.

Ok, so who wants to join me and be a renegade that was driven out. He has beguiled some elves into trying to start a war agains the dragon colony. Anyone else feeling Evil? I am usually a good guy , but to be evil on this thread seems like it will be fun.

Here is my character :

Dragon Name : Pyrymis
Common Name: Ebonystryke
Color : Black
Powers: Fear , Mind control, Polymorph
Age : 1071 years old
Height at shoulder: 18 feet
Length: 82 feet

Background: Pyrymis is one of the eldest dragons in the colony. He was unhappy with the policy that all the dragons must stay underground so they would not be seen. He voiced his opinion to the Grey Dragon, but was shouted down in council as being foolish. Unphased, Pyrymis tried to organize like minded dragons to overthrow the Grey Dragon and allow them to do what they wanted. Hearing of this possible rebellion, the Grey Dragon suprised the dissident dragons, was able to subdue them all at once and shipped them off to the Isle of the Winds in exile from the rest of the colony. The fear that the Grey Dragon had created into all the exiled dragons was such that they did not even think of leaving the island for a hundred years.

Pyrymis has grown weary of a monotonous life on the isolated island and has begun to start leaving the island and exploring . He used his power to polymorph himself to a human looking entity by the name of Mr. Matrim Black. He is feeling out the sentiment of the human population, trying to influence them with "Fairy tales" of evil dragons that are afoot and also of their boundless treasure. Recently , Mr Black has gained the ear of Mayor Rand of the city of Caemlyn . Mayor Rand is sceptical about the existence of these "so called Dragons" , having heard fairy tales about them since he was a boy.

Okay, Chewy's started the ball rolling. I guess I'll post my character now.

As for your question, Zircon, you are welcome to join, and you can choose to be on the dragon council if you want. Just remember: this council is made up of THE eldest dragon of that colour in the colony. So, besides just the colour, you also have to take into consideration that your character will be quite old if you want to be on the council. But, dragons, unlike humans and the other lesser creatures, do not begin to weaken in their old age. That is, until they reach their VERY old age... that's when their powers start to wane. My character is on the verge of this step.

Dragon Name: Lheyklanth
Common Name: Oldwing
Colour: Grey
Powers: Fear, Regeneration, Protection, Mind Control, Polymorphing
Age: 1486 years
Height at shoulder: 25 feet
Length: 97 feet

Background: The sole Grey dragon of the colony at this point in time, Lheyklanth is the Father of the colony. He was born to a White father and a Black mother, the last such pair, so very, very long ago. He is the largest dragon of the colony, as most greys are, and his powers are tremendous enough that he has been able to hold his primacy over the dragons for all his long life. But now, his powers are beginning to fade with his old age, and the colony is beginning to get very hard to control, what with the threat of the Lesser beings. Oldwing wonders what has become of the legendary dragons of old, that their predecessors can be afraid of such a trivial threat to the colony.

hmmmmmmm.well i better post mine

name:anfinos
nickname:fin
color:dark blue
powers:fear,polymorphing,mind controll,cold
age:200 years
height at shoulder:22 feat
lenght:64 feat

description:son of an black mother and bule father that both was exiled to the island of rebels, fin is sometimes very aggresive and sly when getting out of trouble.he ussaly sneaks out of the village to play with his humman friends and never gets caught.fin had been trying to take his polymorphing to the next level trying to morph into an wolf to scare off all the evil humman intruders like his grandfather did,but always meet halfway lokking half wolf half dragon, but his greatist form is half humman half dragon....he is one of the few that wans to interact with hummans and stop hiding but doesn,t want to get in trouble

Thanx Dark warrior.
But I guess for now I do not want to be on the council yet.
Here is the character post.

Dragon Name : Quisaris-chou-Yang
Short Name : Yang
Color : Violet (Blue + Red)
Powers : Clairvoyance, Fire, Fear, Polymorph
Age : 380 years
Height at shoulder : 21 feet
Length : 90 feet

Background : Yang is a hybrid of a Blue and Red, a real fire and ice relationship. His fiery disposition inherited from his father is tempered by the cool logic of his mother. He spent most of his youth with his mother, discussing philosophy and art. While he did not agree with the council’s decision to send the rebellious Dragons to the Isle, he nevertheless saw the need for stability and tranquility. One of the exiles was his father but he did not live to see freedom. With his mother increasingly withdrawn from his life, this young Dragon is hard pressed to find things to wile his time away. He naturally developed an interest of the intimate kind with an older true Gold, her beautiful scales reflecting the sunlight like the rainbow and her tail that speaks of her femininity. But because of the Gold’s higher stature, and occasional singes of her lightning, Yang’s ardor is starting to cool.

Despite his close relationship with his mother, he has begun to sit, unobserved, in some of fiery denouncements of the dissatisfied. He has no intention of following his father’s footsteps, but being bored does dictate some strange actions. Being long-lived does has its drawbacks, as sometimes, nothing of interest will happen for centuries at end. Of course, young Yang has not heard of the old Chinese curse which say, ‘May you live in interesting times.’

Ok, so to this point , we got the Counsel leader, a possible hidden dissadent (sp?) a rebel and a possible rebel that does not want to get in trouble. Looks like you are in trouble Darkwarrior lol. Are you going to wait for a few more players to start the main thread? I will probably be offline till Monday afternoon, so hopefully we have a few more players by then.

More players

name: Zyzzx (This is an actual street name. Amazeing isn't it)
Nickname: Sil
age: 113
color: Silver
powers: Lighting, protection, regeneration, polymorphing
Height: 18
length: 30

Born an unusal color Zyzzx take pride in himself. His father was white and his mother gold. Looking almost pure white, he has the metalic scales of his mother. Being young he is both pure harted and rebelious.

He refuses to tolerate the clan siting in its hideing place. Not because of boredom or greed but because dragons can teach the young races so much. Haveing the the good of a white dragon and the self centered nature of a gold, he looks at the survival of every thing. Though he won't die for this cause.

His attitude led him to leave the clan for the world outside. He picked up the habit of standing on two legs, from his time spent as human. Now he recently reurned seek the council. What for remains to be seen.
