Never said:For Writers
Want to add your own threads to stories other people have created? Then, you're a writer.
Threads should be minimum 100 words in length, or 2-3 paragraphs. This rule is not set in stone. One-line threads may be acceptable to some authors, however keep in mind that loading an entire page for one or two lines of text gets extremely irritating.
You may write on almost any subject. We do ask that you not write stories on bestiality, underage sex, or extreme violence during sex. Power plays and non-consent fantasies are one thing, but killing or violently abusing someone during a sexual act should be avoided.
No character involved in sexual situations may be under 18 years old. That is to say, all characters involved in anything sexual must be 18 years old or older. No underage sex!
You should separate paragraphs by a line break or a 3-5 space indentation on the first line of the paragraph. Dialogue should be similarly organized. Use paragraphs. They're your friend.
You should employ the same point of view and tense established in the previous threads. (This is written in invisible pixels, and you will continue to mix up your points of view and tenses, but I thought it was worth a try.)
Do not place HTML, including links, in your threads. CHYOO interprets all HTML constructs literally.
Do not kill, maim, molest, or otherwise harm characters created by other writers without their consent. Please talk to the author who created a character before killing it. You can discuss these issues in the author forum.
For Editors
Want to create and shape the outcome of your own story? Then you're an editor (and a writer).
For open stories, the first thread should be minimum 250 words. The thread should establish the plot, setting, and main characters, and should end with a compelling 'hook' to encourage other writers to continue the story. For personal stories, the preferred length is 1500 - 2000 words. You should consider dividing anything longer than that into multi-part stories.
Try to review submissions at least once a week. If you wait much longer than that, you risk losing your editing priviledges for the story.
Always give the submitter an explanation why you're rejecting their submission and how they can improve it should they decide to resubmit.
1. What is CHYOO?
CHYOO (pronounced 'chew') is an interactive sex story site.
2. What does CHYOO stand for?
CHYOO is an homage to the classic 'Choose Your Own Adventure' children's series (yes, I'm going to Hell). Since CHYOO has a somewhat heavier theme, the 'A' in adventure was replaced with an 'O'. The 'O' will represent different things to different people. It could stand for orifice if you're kinky, or opening if you're myopic. Forget about its significance. It was chosen for its mellifluous tone, and also because I like choo choo trains.
3. Why do some stories ask me for my name?
Part of the interactivity of Chyoo is that you can add your name, or any name you want, to a story if the author has set it up that way. When an author writes a story, he/she may choose to use a variable for the character name - in that case, you will be asked to enter a name. When you enter a name in the box, that name will be used in the story. You can use your own name, the name of a friend, a girl you've always dreamed of, a guy you like, etc. We are currently working on extending this feature to make it more user friendly and more powerful.
4. Can I link to you?
This isn't really a question, so much as another lame-o plug for the site. In any case the answer's yes, and thanks for asking.Just copy and paste the code below into your website:

Writers
1. How do I add a thread to a story?
First you have to dig in there and start reading. Threads that can be continued will have a button labeled 'Add New Thread'. Click this button and start composing.
2. I want to continue this thread but there's no 'Add New Thread' button. Why?
There are three possible answers: 1. the page has exceeded the maximum threads that can be added, 2. the thread or story is closed, 3. you weren't looking closely enough.
3. I clicked the 'Add New Thread button' but CHYOO denied me. Why?
Editors can restrict the writers who can contribute to their stories. You won't be able to contribute to a story unless you meet the editor's requirements.
4. Waaah! I spent x hours on this thread and the editor rejected it. How can I get even?
Editors reject most threads, not because of bad writing, but because writers fail to communicate their ideas to them before they submit their work. Consequently editors often receive threads that are so alien to their own sensibilities that they have no choice but to reject them. Always contact the story's editor before you start writing. Of course, there are submissions that are genuine crap. For those of you who write from your asses, there's not much else you can do but create your own stories.
5. It's been two weeks since I submitted a thread and the editor still hasn't reviewed it. What should I do?
Try sending the editor a polite reminder (to get their ass moving). If after a couple of weeks the editor still hasn't reviewed the thread, please contact me.
Editors
1. Waaah! No one is contributing to my story! What should I do?
First, make sure the story is in open mode. Second, if you haven't done so already, try setting the story permissions to 'No Minimum' (in your account home, select 'View My Stories', select the story you wish to modify, then click on the 'Modify' link next to the Permisions heading). If, after this, people still aren't contributing there is probably something wrong with the story itself. Many editors make the mistake of opening with a few tepid paragraphs and expecting an avalanche of contributions to follow. Try rewriting the opening thread with a more compelling hook or cliffhanger. Also, try adding a few more threads of your own to get things rolling, and posting an invitation on the discussion board.
2. How do I allow only certain writers to contribute to my story?
When you create the story, select closed mode in Step 2. This prevents everyone, save yourself, from contributing to the story. Once the story is approved select 'View My Stories' in your account home, select the story, click on the 'Modify' link next to the Permisions heading, then click the 'Update Writer List' button. You can then add the writers you're allowing to contribute to the story. This feature is useful if you've established your own writing clique.
3. How do I ban certain writers from contributing to my story?
Make sure the story is in open mode. In your account home select 'View My Stories', select the story you wish to modify, click on the 'Modify' link next to the Permisions heading, then click the 'Update Writer List' button. From there you can ban writers to your heart's content. CHYOO will prevent anyone you add to the list from adding threads to the story.
4. Can I submit a personal, non-interactive story?
Right now CHYOO is trying to focus on interactive stories. However, if you're itching to show-off something you've written CHYOO won't stop you. When you create the story, select closed mode and 1 under maximum threads in Step 2. The story should fit on one page.
5. How do I create a chain-story?
When you create the story, simply select 1 maximum thread in Step 2.
6. How do I delete a thread?
You can't. Allowing editors to delete threads would disrupt the flow of the story. Just don't approve threads you dislike.
7. How do I modify my profile?
In your account home, click the 'Update Account' link, then click the 'Update Profile' button.
