Charley's Wrath!

I suggest you select auto, and set the time to 8 seconds.

Ditto. My sister and her husband (in Naples) lost three trees and and roof tiles, but they were very fortunate compared to others. I spent the day on edge worrying about them, and Soron. He lives in the Tampa Bay area, which was expecting a direct hit most of the day Friday.

My heart and thoughts go out to those that lost so much.

It was very hard to watch it play out, my Dad had a house in Coral Gables when Andrew hit in 1992. I have a video a friend of his took the day after Andrew's visit. It's heartbreaking to see the devastation a hurricane of that magnitude can cause.

Thank You very much. You are 1 sweety lady and I am sure 1 very sexy lady;) People like you help in crisis good too know there are people out there thinking about others. :)

I also thank everyone for their prayers and good wishes. My family made it through just fine. The storm turned just a little to the right and we just missed the eye of Charley. We had expected it all day to come right at us and when we saw it had moved we were so thankful.

But there is so much damage and so many people suffering. Some going 4 to 6 days before they have power restored. In the Florida heat that is a huge problem.

Yes, all are ok. Soron is fine (as always lol)

My sister and her husband spent most of the day at the home of some friends in Naples. (They were out of town when the storm hit) Water came up through the floors of the house because the ground was saturated, probably through foundation cracks the owners weren't aware of. But again, none of them sustained damage or loss of life. Minor events compared to what others experienced.

I was shocked and outraged when I saw the wreckage from Charley. The deaths of so many because they were caught unprepared. Granted those who died should have evacuated, but sadly it appears that they had no idea of how bad this storm would be.
If any one good thing can come from this disaster, I pray that its awareness and respect for the raw energy a hurricane is capable of and that we shrug off this shroud of complacency toward our safety. People, just because we live in paradise doesn't mean that we can ignore warnings of peril when they're given.
I understand that some of those dead had no previous experience with a storm of this magnitude, not many do, but after seeing what Andrew did back in 92, I for one would seek shelter if I had 145 mph winds bearing down upon my ass!

Its sad to think of their families left without a grandparent, mother or father all because they felt safe in their mobile home.

Peace 1Sexylady, thanks for providing this thread.:rose:

~kym~ my prayers are with those who lost loved ones and possession:heart:

Good morning everyone!!!

Leaving more prayers and positive thoughts for all of the people in FL. :rose:

My heart goes out to all there and also along the coast of the east where it did more damage. As they say it is not nice to underestimate Mother Nature.

Thank you sweety....just got home this evening from spending a weekend with my love. All I could do was watch and pray for my Mom's safety and salvage for what meager but cherished possessions she has. She is ok, as is her home.

The eye of the beast passed 8 miles from there. Close....too close. As of this afternoon there is still no power in the Fort Meyers area...no ice available to preserve food.

My condolences to those who lost loved ones....it was awfully close to being one of mine. Peace. :rose:

Sending thoughts and prayers to all of the people in FL and along the east coast. :rose:

Well I spoke with my Mom today and she's fine and so is the rest of my family. She still wants me down there to live but I think I will stay with my four seasons for a bit...;)

I will keep all in my prayers...:rose:

To 1sexylady, Cathleen, kayte, Missingmeds, Arden, Sweet_Tee, ~*sunkyssed_kym*~, 69forever ...and everyone else...thank you for your prayers, and well wishes. I am grateful that my family was missed by Charley, but am continually praying for those who were devastated by its wrath.

I"m touched by the caring people all over the world of Lit . I feel truly fortunate to call you friends, and those of you whom I do not know yet, I still feel fortunate to be affiliated with you. :rose:

Welcum to Lit-- MrMaximillion2004, I'm in Northeast Florida, howdy neighbor:).

Thanks to all the thoughts and prayers from our friends here on Lit.

Charley was a very different hurricane from the norm. The sudden right turn was not expected or reported by the TV stations until almost to late. Yet the National Hurricane Center was showing the path to be very near what happened since Thursday.

Seems to me that the "Tampa" TV stations and weather people kept pushing the fact that it would hit near Tampa bay and did not consider or talk about it hitting south of this area.

Being in Lakeland, we got a good hit from it but not as much as Winter Haven or Lake Wales got or for that fact Haines City.

All in All, I think that most people were well prepared for this one but mother nature has a way of throwing a curve at us and this one was bad.

There is no blame to be placed and no words that can bring back the injured or worse.

Just be thankfull we made it thru and ready for the next one to come.

Greetings from Florida...

The ungodly storm that hit here Friday was only the beginning for us. I have numerous customers, friends, and fellow workers who are without power or water or both. And most of them were 80 miles or more northwest of where Charley came through. My boss is in Daytona, taking care of his mother. She no longer has a roof on her house after the storm went back out into the Atlantic still sporting 110 mile an hour winds. I was told by an engineer from a New Orleans TV station that 75% of donwtown Punta Gorda is without roofs on the buildings.

I can't help but get a little emotional. In 1992 when Andrew hit Dade County some 250,000 people were left, at least temporarily, homeless. I was working for The Tampa Tribune at the time and 5 fellow drivers and I made 3 round trips over a two day period to deliver dry goods to people who had no homes to go back to, or had no power or water supply to speak if they did have homes still standing. Pictures, news videos do not even begin to make you feel that devastation until you stand in the middle of it and see it for yourself.

Tomorrow, I am going to go through that horror again. Our company and two of our competitors are sending five straight trucks of dry goods down to Charlotte and Lee counties. It's the very LEAST I can do, considering that if Charley had come in to the mouth of Tampa Bay with 14 to 18 foot storm surges, I would no longer have a home to go back to either. The entire peninsula I live on would have been completely under water. It's the very LEAST I can do.

My prayers are with you all Soron. And on behalf of those folks that are going to use your goods. Thank you and your fellow drivers, because it is not an easy thing to do.
