Why is there so much scorn on the GB for the PG?

I really am curious.

These are things that I would like to know:

When did offending people become worthy of acclaim? (It is a given that some opinions will always offend some people.)

Why does a narrow world view equate to strong convictions?

Why is it assumed that an open display of affection precludes intelligence?

A definition of "fluff" because, apparently, what I consider fluff and what others consider fluff doesn't correspond.

Why, in general, does the GB feel as though it is "superior" to the PG?

Oh, and why is education considered to be equal to intelligence?

Two words: Infinite signatures.

As to the education/intelligence question - it doesn't equate, but they do tend to go together a bit.

I have often wondered too ,why there are sporadic outbreaks of PG bashing on the GB. However the PG never appears to be bothered in anyway with what goes on here on the GB.

I have posted in both forums but from the time I joined Lit have always spent more time actually reading threads posted here on the GB.

i havent clicked on the playground forever ... but last time i did there was a big to do where people from both sides didn't do themselves any good

what do you talk about on the playground is it just to do with personels or do you talk about currents affairs and such ?

I really don't know, SpiritKitty.

But hey, do you like my blue ball?

An opinion will not nesecarily offend somebody. My opinion of "I like Klondike bars" will offend nobody.

The Playground sucks. It's a forum of threads that go on for 388 pages filled with {{{{{{{JOHNATHAN}}}}}}} followed by a sig that's so long that it takes two full screens.

Nothing's ever discussed it's just "Ohhh {{{{{{RICO}}}}} U R SO KIND N KARING I LUB U!!! :rose: :rose: :)

Sounds like a forum for real intellecutals.

PG people are like cotton candy. Plenty of volume...but little substance.

I'm not looking. Therefore the playground and personals have no appeal to me.

The perpetual mating dance is a little tiresome when one is not looking.

I don't know if the general concensus of the GB is superior to the PG. The culture is different. I find most the playground bashing is all in fun, anyway. Different type of humor. Different thickness of skin.

The answers to the rest vary with my mood of the day.

I pretty much have only posted on two threads in the PG...Ask a Question thread was my favourite (which I think the GB has something similar running too) this was fun, answer a question and then ask your own.

I think most of those never ending threads are groups of posters, online friends I guess' interacting amongst themselves. A lot of other threads are location based.

There does tend to be some kind of intellectual snobbery about the PG vs the GB, but I have found education and intelligence isn't found exclusively on the GB.

it might not be a fair representation of the PG but i would say when there has been conflicts between the two the people posting here from the PG were trying to give as good as they got

Laurel should rename the playground "monkeyland" because of their fascination for bright colors and shiny things.

That speaks to the point.

Who is "from the PG" and who is "from the GB?"

I'm from Michigan. I visit whatever board seems to have an interesting discussion. I'm rarely rarlely on the PG, but I get "accused" of being from there because I have a long sig.

I suppose that is like accusing your mexican neighbors of being illegal ailians or "accusing" the hatian's who live upstairs of being "from" Africa because of the color of their skin or the clothes they wear.

I have a thread in the pg ....spent alot of time there as well as here. In the playground its huggy kissy to your face, stab you in the back and talk about you in pm when your not around.
I would rather someone say it to my face like here in the GB.
Skip the hugs and kisses and straight out chat....thats what separates the two...and why there will always be a conflict.
Got somethin to say start a thread and say it......I like that! lol

Good post, but that fuckin' dollie has got to go.

(PS- there's plenty of backstabbing here too.) :)

Read it again, Spin. Some opinions will offend some people. I was just trying to exclude that from the discussion. Since it was, I thought, an obvious thing.

What do you mean you like Klondike bars? Have you ever been to one?

I agree with you about the sigs, that's why I have them turned off. Even with broadband the pages were taking forever to load. Pain in the ass.

But on the affection vs intellectualism. No I don't agree.
I've seen posts here that attempt discussion but when someone doesn't agree and can't think of an answer, they tend to take apart the grammar, the spelling, how the quotes are used, etc. How is that a) a discussion and b) how is that an example of intellect? (and I'm not speaking of those times it's done in jest those are, I believe, quite obvious)

One of my favorite things to discuss is the space/time continum applied to reincarnation. I like abstracts. I get tired of war and bloodshed fed to me on a daily basis. Sometimes it's just nice to be petted and belly rubbed.

The only thing I go to the Playground for is a couple of the word games. I like them. It makes me think. It gives me something to focus on so I don't have to think about the crap I have to deal with on a regular basis. That is what fluff is. Just filling.

I see that all over the GB. People posting threads just to see their name on the first page. Posting a thread just to mock another thread. Show me where that is a discussion or an example of intellect.

So my hatian neighbors really *are* African and my mexican neigbors really are illegals?

^^^ This question is why you belong at Monkeyland.

Not always.

My mother used to say that if you take a peasant off the farm and educate him, all you will have is an educated peasant.

I really haven't seen many examples in life that would make me choose to disagree.

I have ventured into the PG a couple of times, I even started a thread in there asking how come they have such long sig. lines and what not -- they were cool about the whole thing.

But, of course I soon found myself back on the GB, my eyes began to hurt after a while in the PG... all those flashing lights and what not....
