Threads: sequences or branches?

I've finally gotten the notion that the way I contribute threads to stories is different from some other people. While I'm apt to put one here, one there, and occasionally a sequence of three or four, I sometimes see long sequences without branches by the same contributing author.

So maybe I'm pondering when it makes sense to branch, and when it makes sense to string a bunch of threads along.

Sometimes it seems like a thread sets up a very specific follow-up scene; other times the "Continuing Question" is a real branch point. I like to try and hook other authors with a good set-up and question -- the fun of collaboration is what's most special about Chyoo to me.

What do you, dear authors, keep in mind when you're writing a thread? Are you thinking ahead to the next following scene, or are you thinking of how to set up a good branch point?

It may look like I'm back for real, but I'm just living on borrowed DSL.

YES!

How's that for an answer?

There are many times when I have three or four threads, with a single streaming idea. What usually happens is that I write a really loooonggg thread, and then go back and look for points where one could possibly branch off.

But, then again, there are an equal number of times where I insert just a single thread, hoping to lure some fish in with some good bait, and a great "hook"!

It all depends in your writing "mood" and "style" at the time!

I hope that answers your question!?!?!

I have learned to write in the Chyoo style. I also try to map out the story three or four threads ahead. I create a story line, and then look for points I can create branches. That to me is the fun of Chyoo, all of the different possibilities.

I also like to take the same story and think of two or three possible variations and then map those out with more branches off of them. The big problem is I have no chance of finishing half of the stuff I think of. I currently have about 100 threads mapped and ready to write not even counting my own stories!

Anyway I think that having a longer term vision of where the story is heading keeps me from writting badley thought out, or dead end threads.

:D

Shotgun....

I just write whatever comes to mind.

Sometimes a long sequence of threads come to mind, other times I just have one Idea that I think somebody can take over with.

I do feel guilty if I don't write at least a page a day, tho.....

Story-Line.

Hello,
I am very similar to Stuart. I write shot-gun a lot. I'll read a couple threads and when I have an different or a better direction that would make sense that's when I add a new thread to the story. Most of the time I have a general storyline and I like to have different routes to the same goal. I tend to break up sex scenes, allowing the reader to pick and set up the sex that they enjoy.

Most of my writing is done for my faithful contributors. Before I write for a new story, I think about those who have added to my stories in the past and I try to take care of them. I enjoy the sharing process of Chyoo. You scratch my back, I'll scratch yours.

That's my take.

Hmmmm well I am new to this forum and its style of writing, but having already started my first story, I can say I usually just read over where a thread is...and think of where to take it, sometimes I continue with the direct approach of continuing that thread, though often I find my mind wandering and start to think of where-else I can take the SL
