As Mr Keen has been having a cold the past couple of days I have been making homemade soup, and you know what? I am quite bloody good at it. I mean I like to cook in general, but I think when it comes to soup, I really kick some ass.

It's true. You'll all have to come over some night and see.

Hey girl :)

I love soup, I have it all winter, often.

I let Wolfgang Puck make my soup usually, have you tried his chicken noodle? omygod, fantastic stuff.

I just made a kick ass pot of Chicken and Dumplings......YUM!!!:D

I really think that Laurel needs a new rule. No more mentioning kickass stuff you cook on the GB without posting the recipes. *grumbles*

Tonight it was Carrot and Pumpkin with Ginger. No recipe, made it up as I went along. I tell you, it was deeelish.

Best small kitchen appliance I ever bought, that hand blender thing.

Ok, just to make Nora happy- here is a great recipe, especially for someone with a cold since it's loaded with garlic. I made this soup last night, I always make it for my baby when he is sick.

Creamy Celery and Garlic Soup

1 tbs butter or oil
1 small onion, chopped
1 head garlic, cloves seperated and peeled (more if you like...)
1 bunch celery, leaves removed
1 large potato, peeled and diced
7 cups water
3 bouillon cubes (veg or chicken)
a few sprigs of fresh parsley
salt & fresh ground pepper
fresh grated parmesan cheese (optional)

Heat butter in large soup pot and sautee onion 2-3 minutes. Add garlic and celery and sautee for another 3 minutes. Add potato, water, bouillon cubes and parsley; bring to a simmer. Cover and simmer 30 minutes. Remove parsley and discard. Add salt to taste (celery is already a high sodium vegetable naturally, so you should not need to add too much.) Puree. Add pepper to taste. Serve with fresh grated parmesan sprinkled on top and with a nice crusty bread.

Mmmmmmmmm.

Actually, I can't stand the stuff. Hubby likes it, though. I have a recipe that I culled together from a few that looked edible. He liked it, but he didn't like the bisquick dumplings. Guess if I ever bother making it for him again I'll have to roll some. Fucker.

I'm in lust with your hand-blender, Peachy. One of these days I'm gonna break down and get one. The soup sound delicious!

How do you keep the chicken from jumping out of the bowl?

Tie the dumplings to it's feet, of course. Kinda like cement shoes for poultry.

You mean like tinned biscuits???

Yep, a friend turned me on to it and they work great, my whole bunch eats it up like crazy!

Y'all are just sick sometimes!

This has been the wierdest day -- wait until you hear BBs band names, but that's another story...

NORA -- I found a recipe for you that has nothing to do with soup (sorry)

It's for Cospolitan Sorbet to serve either as a dessert or palate cleansings between courses (and served in martini glasses). Looks pretty. Made me think of you!

I'm being dragged out the door to the guitar center for a while. Will post the recipe later if you're interested.

Kickass idea, Marksgirl! Thanks for it! That'll save me a hell of a lot of hassle next time I get off my ass and make it for hubby! Any particular style of biscuits?

Someplace, that sounds sooooooo good! Very festive! Besides, you know how I like to give my icecream maker a good workout now and then! *grin* Post it or PM it to me, pleeeeeeaaaaaaase!

"No Soup for You!"

hey come on, I gave ya one. That celery garlic soup is awesome, I would charge money for it if I hadn't just lifted it right out of this book sittin here next to me. OK, I will try to think up one for the carrot pumkin one, but as I was making it up, I cannot vouch for accuracy, you will just have to try it hit-or-miss.

3 carrots, peeled and diced
pumpkin - I used a Red Kuri squash, but I reckon you could probably use butternut or in a pinch, the canned pumkin stuff (as long as it is not presweetened). You need enough for roughly 2.5 cups, diced.
small onion, diced
medium potato, diced
grated ginger root (I used a piece about the size of a golf ball)
1 cup plain yoghurt
1 tbs apple cider vinegar
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground clove
I cup orange juice
6 cups water
2 veg stock cubes
salt & pepper to taste

Sautee the onion in a little oil or butter for 3 minutes. Add all spices (not including ginger), sautee 1 or 2 minutes more. Add pumpkin, carrot, potato and ginger. Stir. Add OJ, water, stock cubes. Bring to light boil, reduce heat, cover and simmer for 35 mins. Add cider vingar and yoghurt. Puree. Return to heat and add salt and pepper to taste.

At least, that's how I think I did it, anyway.

I dont mind telling you that the celery garlic one sounds good. The pumpkin one is giving me the willies...and I've not even tasted it.

Almost enough to make the hairs on my neck stand up. LOL

No thanks! :p

The pumpkin one is making my mouth water. I have a vegetarian I'd like to try it out on, actually! Thanks Peachy!
