Is it rude not to reply to unsolicited messages?

When a sequence of messages seems over do you sign off or just end it by not replying?

Do you use the folders available?

1. Not necessarily.

2. Either one, depending on the poster and the topic.

3. I'm saving a particularily odd one from a newbie about violating me on Prom night. The munchkins were so pleased to be mentioned.

I think it's rude to not reply. The PMer that makes an effort to say hello deserves to be treated like I would want to be... That's assuming the PM isn't out and out disgustingly sexual, but I've never gotten one like that... Even if they may have been a bit socially inept :)

As far as the convo goes, I usually indicate that I'm done by saying something like "See you on the board" where they should get the message...

No folders since they don't free up space anyway...

I know I lack PM etiquette. I've a nasty habit of just stopping when the convo wanes.

You know, as soon as I hit submit, I thought about you.

Can I say, sorry?

I was running, looked back and saw i lost you.

My ass got cold.

You can.....

depending on the person... if it's someone that I regularly pm with then I usually say g'night or somehow indicate that I'm going.
If it's a random sort of thing then I just stop posting when it seems that the conversation is done.

I think that's the pivotal thing - someone you know.

Very well put

If the PM is unsolicited...then I don't bother to reply if I don't feel the need.

Once the PM exchange is over...I just go on my merry way. I am sure that the person I am PMing with could care less if I have to leave for any reason. If there is an issue important enough to respond to when I come back then I will answer it then.

I don't receive enough PMs to warrant using folders.

Yeah, I do that too. Usually I'm multitasking and figure I will get back to that person later. If the conversation is fun I will chat awhile.
Oh, and I always answer on pm day.

well even someone that I *know*... if the conversation heads to a "thanks" "you're welcome" kinda thing.. to me that's the same as "okay talk to ya later"
although like I said with certain people that i have regular long pm conversations with, then I end it like a phone call.. "okay I gotta get to bed/work/hang out with the kids/ talk to ya later"
Unsolicited pms from people I don't know... whether or not I reply completely depends on the pm itself. If it's polite, I reply. If it's.. "u r hawt, i fuk u now" then I don't bother.

It's just being considerate of your fellow human being even if it's just one in cyberspace...

Besides you may make a new friend and what can be bad about that?

I would say on random PM day it is very rude not to reply. I try to reply to all with something nice to say, at least a hello.

I just end it by not replying.

Yes I have a few saved in folders.
