I was looking for an alternative to shaving...

when it starts to grow back its very uncomfortable to say the least. any suggestions?

im a male by the way.

also i was wondering how i should approach my girlfriend about doing the same. how should i do that?

Your main non-shaving options are:
- Waxing or another method that yanks the entire hair out
- Laser hair removal
- A depilatory (a chemical, like Veet, Nair or Magic)

There's a ton of info on hair removal in The Blank Manual sticky, and on specific methods if you search (use google with 'site:literotica.com waxing/laser/shaving' or whatever method, without the single quotes, as your search term).

Personally, I shave because it's quick, cheap, and I'm happy with the results. If you do it correctly, regularly for a while (like everyday or every other for a month or so) and keep the area relatively dry (e.g. in summer, during sports/workouts) it doesn't itch, if that's your main problem with it.

As for approaching your gf, I'd start by asking her if she's ever thought of doing something different. Then you could suggest it as a new/fun thing for both of you to try. Shaving at least can be made into a sensual experience, so maybe you could suggest starting an evening with that. You can also sell the sensitivity angle - that you heard less hair makes for a lot more sensation.

If she's hesitant about the look of being completely bare, suggest just removing the hair from the labia and area directly above her clit, then trimming or leaving the rest alone. Or, maybe suggest a close trim for both of you first, and you can do more if you like it.

on nair it says not to use on genitals. i looked into that one a while ago.

wonder why it says that. waxing seems like it would be painfull.

Many, myself included, have used Nair with few/no problems. It causes a little irritation on me (everywhere, including my legs) and just ended up being way too much of a hassle, so I took up shaving.

Professional waxing (you really don't want to use the home kits on this area) is expensive and, you're right, it can be painful.

Laser treatments are very expensive and take several treatments over 6-12 months to get everything and be permanent.

that's why you test products on a small part of your leg, first, and not straight away on your most sensitive areas.

Yep, and wait for the time specified and test every time in case you've developed an allergy since you've used it last, just like the instructions say. ;)

Magic Shave, a facial depilatory for ethnic men, is popular around here, but I've not tried it due to reports of severe chemical burns with the test alone. I figure if Nair gives me some irritation, and Veet burns like hell, it's not worth trying for me at this point. However, lots of people do just great with the "sensitive skin" powder especially. There's plenty of info on it in the Blank Manual sticky and through searching, if anyone's interested.

There are also electric shavers like the Seiko (Cleancut or Closecut Intimate Shaver?), but they've received mixed reviews here and are about $80, IIRC.

LOL yea would have been a good idea!

I don't know if it relates to your scenario or not, but I remember it being uncomfortable down there after I shaved the first time. After another shave or two, the distraction went away. I have no idea why this happened.

You should probably avoid talking to your girlfriend. As a woman, she is likely to be unpredictable and irrational. Your best off just going down the pub with your mates.

Oh, and waxing your balls sounds like one of those strange BDSM things, not unlike nailing your penis to the wall. Not that I would know anything about such matters, and therefore should keep such comments to ones self.

wehstar apologises for being grumpy today.

.

:D :D :D :D I love a good sense of humor.

I've got the same problem, kind off; I'm a girl so I guess it's a bit different. My boyfriend really dosn't like my pubic hair; I've tried shaving it but I just got so tender and couldn't get it all, and I've tried waxing and I actually had a bad reaction to the wax and it left some scarring. At this point I don't know what to do about it, I really want to make him happy?

Given the fact that you've really tried, if he can't deal with as close a cut as you can handle, he's likely not worth your effort or affection.

Have you tried just shaving your labia using a really good razor, procedure and aftercare? And when you shaved, did you continue shaving in spite of the irritation/tenderness? If I get some irritation, I use cortisone cream, keep the area as dry as possible after that, and give my skin a break until it's back to normal. Only then do I resume shaving, and with little-no irritation, I shave regularly to keep the skin used to that kind of stimulation. Hydrocortisone and products like BikiniZone can be used as a preventative measure, as well.

Thanks for the advice. He's been good about it and hasn't been pushing me about it at all after I went for the waxing, but I know that's what he wants. Thanks a lot for the advice, I really didn't know who to ask about this.

Try using an electric shaver. Every time I have shaved with a blaze - instant rash. I have no issues at ALL with an electric shaver though. :p Although it's not as close, I've not had any complaints.

I'm also in the process of having IPL/laser hair removal too. Fantastic results if you can handle a little zapping.

Why don't you want to use the home kits. I have been considering it as an option. I was thinking it may be difficult to get through it all if it was painful at the start, but is that the only reason.

Clean shaven is delicious!

Nothing excites me more or tastes better than when she is clean shaven! Love it! That´s why I started shaving three years ago. Wanted to surprise the girl I was going out with as she shaved. I do have to shave every day, but sometimes go for two or three. I use a BIC razor, some water and some vaseline intensive care cream. Gets me a nice close clean shave! And it feels oh so good!

I'm with Erika on this one. I'll admit it, I love it when my wife is clean shaven down there, and it does enhance the pleasure I get from going down on her. That said, my wife has issues with irritation from it, so she rarely shaves completely. What ever I may get out of it certainly isn't worth her discomfort, so I'm not about to push her. If you've tired it and didn't like it, whether for physical discomfort or just didn't like the hassle or whatever, then he should just deal with it. Don't get me wrong, I find this as arousing as any other guy, but it seems like such a silly thing for guys to get hung up on.

I know you're asking about hair removal, but I just want to inform you that your pheromones (arousal scents for the opposite sex in layman's terms) are released from your groin with the help of your pubic hair. I don't care if you shave or not, I just thought you might like to know if you didn't already.

Magic Shave people!

This was on a thread a while ago - how I learned about it... but i finally tracked some down at Walgreens, in the mens shaving area...
let me tell you - it works fab! I have very good results with it. I was trimmed a bit to start with, and the first time didnt get it all - I was on the short side with time b/c I didn't want a burn, but the second time I did it a few days later - Viola - hair gone!

that thread was called "I want a bald pussy" or some such.

good luck!

There are a ton of threads on Magic, including at least one in The Blank Manual sticky at the top of the main How To page.

Also, googling site:literotica.com magic shave will give a lot of other results.

Like I've said in the past though, follow the instructions to the letter, including the patch test and waiting 24 hours before using it on a larger area. That is, unless you're aiming to be smooth by getting a 2nd degree chemical burn on your bits!

I'll ask again...is there a particular reason, besides the pain, why we would not want to use a home wax kit? What about the other strips that are designed for the bikini area?

Waxing seems like an option that will last longer than shaving, and I am little concerned about using any of the creams...on my bits, as erika said.
