So, it's a new year, and so whisp and I like to post our regularly scheduled update of what's going on in our life for those of you who still remember us ..

Unfortunately, this update has bad news. whisp has just been diagnosed with breast cancer. It has already metastasized into her bones and has been eating away at her spine, hips and both upper femurs.

For those of you that know us and want to send a card or whatnot, PM me and I'll send you our home address. She is currently still in the hospital, but is expected home sometime in the next few weeks.

Oh God - I don't know either of you, but that is terrible news to have to deal with. Are you pursuing treatment?

We are, although the senior oncologist had not visited her before I had to leave this morning, so I don't actually know what that is. Off the top of my head, I'd assume the basic theme is some form of masectomy and then radiation therapy.

Raphy! That's shocking news for you both. I know you both have a ton a courage and I hope there is some way you might find to deal with this. Give Whisper my best, and to you, naturally. :rose:

Do let us know how things proceed - you both have many good friends here.

It's wonderful to see you posting again, sweets, but I'm so, so sorry about the bad news. :rose:

You're both strong, though. If anyone can get through it, the two of you can. Prayers, thoughts, best wishes, etc., going out to you and Whisp, both.

Raphy,

My prayers for Whisper. Do give her my best.

You two are so lucky to have found one another. I'm sure your presence and love will give her strength and are a daily comfort to her.

I don't know either of you, but I'm so sorry... :( My best friend had breast cancer that metastasized to her bones... it's a wicked disease :(

Do you have a Gilda's Club in your area? They're wonderful support.

:rose:

Aw, fuck!

It's good to hear from you raphy. And so sad to hear such news.

Sending healing vibes yours and whisper's way.

Raphy, i think i only spoke to you once or twice way back when but you were very supportive and gave me some writing feedback.
So sorry to hear about your current turmoil, sending healing thoughts to you and whisper both. :rose:

Whisper helped me on a early story once. I'm so sorry to hear this news about her. You are both in my thoughts. :rose: :rose:

I haven't met you or whisper, but you're both obviously well respected and well loved members of the AH family. My heart goes out to you both! My aunt was recently diagnosed with rapid growth breast cancer, and had to undergo a double mastectomy. The love and support of her family and friends is what is getting her through this. You both have the same from all of us here.

:rose:

:(

This is just so sad. She's been with me when I needed a friend, a hug, a laugh. Tell her I'll be praying for her. Mega-hugs to you both.

:rose: :rose:

Thank you, all of you. I'll be sure to pass on your well-wishes.

Damn. Why does bad things have to happen to good people? I wish for best possible recovery for her and strength for the both of you.

:rose:

Raphy, so sorry to hear about this. Courage my friend, we're here for you and Whisp. :rose:

Okay, since some of you have been asking, here is a little of the backstory..

A little under 2 weeks ago, whisp went into the hospital after a bad fall in our kitchen. We have a new puppy and subsequently, the kitchen floor can be a little.. well, y'know, damp ;)

They did xrays and scans and all that kind of thing, and discovered that she was massively osteoporotic throughout her spine, her hips and pelvis and upper legs. They also found that she had compression fractures in 6 of her vertebrae and a cracked rib. A regular person falling over in their kitchen doesn't fracture bones. A massively osteoporotic person does.

About a week ago they gave her vertebroplasty for her spinal fractures and while they were in the bone, they took a bone biopsy. The cement treatment seems to have worked wonders. She now has full and almost pain-free mobility in her back again. They're doing a hip replacement on Monday.

This morning, the results of the bone biopsy came back. That's why I haven't posted anything until now. I wanted to wait until I knew for sure what it was. I'm not a cry wolf kinda guy.

So basically, that's the story. As far as the mechanicals are concerned, I think the osteo guys have the problems well in hand with the cement and the bilateral hip replacement. As far as the cancer... Well, since we only got the final diagnosis today, I don't know yet what they're proposing as treatment.

Oh, Raphy, I may be a newbie 'round here but your story hits me in the heart like few things can.

I know how many people will probably want to relate to you their own personal stories, so forgive me if I do the same: My mum-in-law was diagnosed with lymphoma this year but she battled it successfully with chemo and now she's managing it pretty well.

The cancer-fighting technology that's available today is more amazing than we can imagine.

Have faith, my friend. Please know that prayers, good thoughts and big hugs are aimed at the two of you from the heartland.

I'm no good at praying, Raphy, but you're both in my thoughts.

Oh, Raphy -

I'm so sorry. :rose:

All my best thoughts and wishes and prayers go out to you and whisp. We'll all keep you close to our hearts.

Hi Raphy and Whisp,

I don't know you folks, being a relative newbie, but allow me to offer my condolences and prayers in this difficult time for the both of you. Sometimes it is almost worse being the partner than the patient.

A good friend of mine is battling lymphoma and is undergoing treatment as we speak. So far, she is making good progress. On a positive note, medical techniques to treat Cancer have advanced significantly in the last few years and more lives are saved every day.

I wish you courage and strength. :rose:

Raphy,
I don't know either of you two either but I know Breast Cancer intimately. Whisper is in my prayers and you are too...May the treatments be fruitful and the days that come with them as painless and non-pressured as possible. May the Creator bless you both with serenity and a broad perspective in the days ahead.
Sincerely,
Poppy
