Oh DearS (OOC and Casting Call)
What's DearS
For anyone who doesn't know, and I'm sure that's pretty much everyone, DearS is a Graphic Novel series in which a group of aliens comes to earth and because of their incredible beauty are quickly accepted into the culture with an almost pop star status. They are incredibly intelligent and able to learn new things very quickly, and also have the ability to manipulate gravity to a small extent, allowing them to float, and even fly short distances, as well as a few other minor abilities, such as the ability to transfer their life force to someone else, in effect healing that person. Beyond their beauty they can also be distinguished by a pattern made up of three triangles on their forehead. They are a race of slaves, who become linked to a master and gain an empathic bond with that person (where they are able to tell what that person is feeling and what they want), but because their culture is not as accepted in the Earth society they do their best to hide the fact that they are slaves while they are slowly integrated into the population through "host families" who take them in. They thrive on positive emotion, and cannot live if they are hated. The concept of shared love between a master and DearS slave is known as the "gift" and is often realized through some divine sign. Of course, none of this is known by the human race.
There are somewhere around 150 DearS who have been integrated into human society through this "host family" system, but are an unknown amount of DearS who lie asleep on their spaceship known as "zero numbers". To the human race, little is known about these zero numbers and most questions about them will be met with the same answer that they are "defective".
At the end of the series a new watcher (leader of the DearS), Io, is born. She evolves to the stage of watcher after a horrible media story about DearS having the power to kill human beings. This creates a rash of anti-DearS protests, and the media is quick to jump onto the anti-DearS bandwagon, because after all, there is little that the human race loves more than to see their heroes fall. After a confession of love from the main character to his DearS partner who had taken all of the blame for the deadly power thing, and had been prepared to exile herself to outer space, the old man, who it had seemed had taken a turn for the worst, is healed by another DearS, ending the anti-DearS sentiment. This restores the previous watcher (Fina) and extends her life span, and soon after Io decides that she is not necessary and leaves the planet using the space ship, and takes an unknown number of the DearS with her, leaving the rest under the watchful eyes of Fina, and the human race. Other that a very small group of people, none of the human race knows anything more about the secrets of the DearS than they did at the start. Life continues.
Where Does That Put Us?
This RP is going to start where the Graphic Novel ended off. The DearS spaceship that hovered in the middle of the bay is gone, but other than that, life has returned pretty much to normal. The DearS don't receive quite as much media attention as they used to, but then again, there had been all of those horrible stories about the DearS being able to kill people recently, so what the media said didn't really hold that much weight anymore anyway. None of humanity knows that the DearS are a slave race, or that the only thing keeping them alive is the outpouring of love from the people that they live with. The DearS that are left on Earth continue searching for their destined masters with whom they will share the gift. Where things go from there...no one knows.
DearS Social Structure
Watcher: (Female Role)
The Leader of the DearS. She works with the human government on the homestead project to place DearS with appropriate host families.
There is only one. (I won't have anyone playing this part, since it is easier to just deal with her as an NPC)
Barker: (Female and Male Role)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/blueblue/DearS/anime_chara_10.gif
A trainer of sorts. They train the DearS so that they will fit in with the human society, and so that they will make more effective slaves, and be more lovable to keep the outpouring of love for the DearS going on. They are rarely seen in public since all of their business happens behind the scenes.
There are very few of these. (I don't think I'll need any of these...yet...)
Biter: (Male role mostly, but to some extent Female as well)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/blueblue/DearS/anime_chara_09.gif
The muscle of the DearS colony. They are seen in public rarely since they only deal with situations in the DearS colonies, making sure that untrained DearS don't go out and ruin the image of the DearS and keep the lower levels in line. They are equal to the Barker in the social status, but are subservient to them because the Barkers are good yelling orders and most Biters specialize in combat. Also, with the DearS being completely integrated into human society, and the spaceship gone, the need for them is dwindling along with their numbers, as they are integrated into society as well.
(If you want to be some sort of fighting tank, I guess this would be for you, but I doubt anyone really wants to play the role of lackey of the barkers...I'll need these roles when I need barkers. I'll keep you informed.)
Sheep Slaves: (Female and Male Role)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/blueblue/DearS/anime_chara_06.gif
The bulk of the DearS population. These are those DearS that have been sent off to become a member of the human society and are most likely to be seeking the gift with a master. They are the ones that the people of Earth see. Sheep slaves are those who have received training by the Barkers on how to best be a slave and are then integrated into society. They already have knowledge on what is edible and what is not, and have already been taught the language and customs of people.
(I need these roles.)
Zero Numbers: (Female and Male Role)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/blueblue/DearS/anime_chara_02.gif
A large number of these DearS were left behind, and now that the space ship is gone and they have been awakened, it is far too many for the DearS society to keep proper tabs on. Every once in a while a Zero number will sneak out. They have varying knowledge of language, customs and other such things. They also know about and actively seek the gift with a master, but their connection with a master makes some of the members of the DearS society a little uneasy.
(I'll need at least one of these before we start, just to make things interesting.)
Human roles are exactly what you would expect them to be. Everyday people.
