Route 16 OOC

What would you do if you found that the road you were traveling on was longer on the map? To make matters worse, you were in Northern Georgia and hadn’t a city or even a gas station in about an hour. The only thing you knew was that the road was named Route 16. The name of the city didn’t really help much at all since Route 16 was not on the map at all. This is not a good situation at all. Perhaps, it is not that bad of a situation but you’ve been watching far too many horror/gore films and playing to many survival horror video games. But you have no idea that all those movies and video games are about to become a living nightmare when you find the small, deserted town. Will you move on through the town or let curiosity get the better side of you? Would you make it out alive regardless of your choice?

That is the basis of this thread. The thread is a mixture of Resident Evil and Silent Hill. The town is abandoned but there is a small group of people living within the city. You see, the city use to be a huge testing ground for bio-weapons then there was an incident. A few of the zombie bio-weapons escaped the laboratories confinements and before they could be captured, they infected others in the city. A quarantine team was deployed into the city to kill everything that lived but by the time the team was activated, it was too late. The city was too over run with bio-weapons and the quarantine team was quickly wiped out. Few of the members survived and have been living within the sewers of the town. Now, the sewers were unsafe. The bio-weapons were mutating and becoming harder to kill or hide from. The quarantine members had completely rebelled from the others in the city. The others in the city refused to let anyone escape the city. Sure, the others could easily block people from wondering into the city but why would they want their bio-weapons to die. The bio-weapons needed something eat and could not be allowed to die. They just could not let their lives work be killed out due to starvation. But the bio-weapons were mutating and getting out of control. Some of the other had been killed but quite a few live on.

What would you do if thrown into a situation like this? Would you fight on and try to find a way out of the city? Would you join the others or join the quarantine team?

I'll be posting the IC thread when I get at least 3 strong bios in the OOC.

His military rise was meteoric - until he took that transfer sideways out of the mainstream and into Special Forces. Doing the part of the job that he loved ended up putting him off course for a General's star and a Washington promotion, but it made him happy and that was the end of it.

Name: Rose Brimson

Bio: A young woman who lived through things that most people twice her age wouldn't believe a twenty five year old could have dealt with. She grew up in a broken home, her father was pretty rough when he was drunk, which gave her a reason to learn to fight at a young age. At fourteen she gave herself up to the state for adoption.

At nineteen she was working the bar scene in her little dead end town. A biker gang had shown up that night, and one of their members decided to have a little fun with Rose. A broken nose and a wasted bottle of Jack Daniels later the man was out cold. Then Rose did the only thing that came to her mind when the gang came looking for her, she asked to join them. She wanted out of this town, they were her exit. They decided to give the runt a chance, that was six years ago. Now with her own bike, Rose didn't intend on getting pushed around by anything again.

Appearance: Haunted ice blue eyes, dirty blonde hair. A gaunt wiry body from months of little food and living in fear.
Background: He was one of the youngsters in the town before all the problems started. The first sign of trouble came from the research lab up the hill, the one they said was a cosmetics testing facility. It came down the hill... and the people turned on each other. At first it seemed like hysteria, but then it became clear the people had turned into something else.

He'd tried to escape the town, but after several failed attempts he'd gone to ground, praying someone from the outside would send help. That was months ago. For some reason the disease or whatever it was hadn't effected him the way it had the others... and the headaches were becoming excruiating.

Name: Rosa Willman
Service: Town Sheriff

Age: 27
Height: 5'6f
Weight: 160lbs
Appearance: Rosa is tanned (mix of Indian and latino acenstors, together with working in the wilderness do good for that) and fit (strong as well as agile, her muscles show easily under her skin). Dark eyes and hair (almost black) short but wild. She is mostly calm and serious in outlook, and exhudes independence through every pore, which makes her popular among the townspeople. She is also kind, although in a non-intrusive, silent way. She does not take credit for anything in which someone else intervened.

She is wearing light-grey jeans (with a holster belt where she keeps her revolver and its ammo), boots (her knife is in her left one), a tight, black t-shirt and a shoulder-holster for her M1911 and its ammo. Also, fingertip-less gloves and a bomber jacket. Her short black hair is kinda unkempt, and a bit ruffled, falling around her head like a cascade.



Biography:
Rosa was born in what used to be an Indian reserve, from an Indian father and a white mother. Her ancestors' family line is full of mixed-race marriages, and Rosa could be considered to be half-white and half-everything-else, with the exception of Asians.

Since the very first moment she breathed the fresh, pure air of Georgia's mountains, Rosa loved nature. She spent whole weeks camping out in the forest in her school, high school, and college years, and got in touch with her native-American relatives. She developed a taste for self-hunted prey, learned to drive jeeps and other 4x4 vehicles, and knows the in-and-outs of self-sustaining oneself in the forest. Rosa is also a bit of an ecologist, and her religion is that of totems and wilderness spirits. Although she doesn't carry out sacrifices or rituals, she feels nature has more to it than a pretty landscape and tasty steaks.


As the town sheriff, Rosa organized the human resistance against the creatures... or at least tried to. Despite the confidence all the people had in her, they just were not going to do what she suggested. Leave the town, and ask the army to intervene. It was surprising that Rosa, the ecologist and survivalist, would suggest something that would bring trouble to the area, both civilized and natural... but she had had to deal with the investigation of the first assassinations, nevermind when she actually saw the 'thing' one of the camping families' head killed with his hunting rifle. Despite her being the one who knew the best what was going on besides the dead, no one gave a second thought to her opinion, and prepared to fight.

When the monsters attacked, the town became a battlefield, and Rosa decided she would do what she could to help the townspeople. Barricades, open fields of fire... everything was prepared, but for the sewers, out of which the worst creatures came. The resistance crumbled, and Rosa was left to fend for herself when she was trapped in a little hotel in the outskirts of the city, close to where she guessed the army would pass through to get to the town...


Equipment:
M1911 Single Action Colt (a family inheritance from a WWII veteran grandfather), X (if ammo is fixed, then 3) mags.
Colt Single Action Army (six-shot revolver, reloaded round-by-round, slightly more powerful than the M1911 .45 caliber), 20 rounds.
Flashlight.
Survival knife.

Useful Skills and Talents:
Knows the town itself, but knows the outskirts and wilderness areas even better. Is a survivalist.
Deadly with her six-shot, but prefers her M1911 for ease of handling. Can work with nearly any rifle.
Surprisingly agile and of fast reflexes, she has no trouble navigating cramped spaces.
Good in wrestling and other forms of close combat.

Weaknesses:
Likes to work solo so much she might desert a conflicting party rather than discuss.
Silent, trusts people and can delegate easily and with confidence.
Serious, but more in demeanour than in attitude towards things.

Chaos, do you intend to run this RP with you as the GM, or as another character? If the latter, it would be convenient to decide just what kind of creatures we will meet, what places would we know of, etc...

Former police office who went to work of a private security force that specilized in "black missions." When his brother and sister both dissapeared in the area he made it his mission to cruise the highway looking for them. He may have gotten what he wanted.........

22 pistol with a couple of mags.
Long police flashlight.
A spider named Ethell which he keeps in a box.

Is unphased by the supernatural.
Thinks he much tougher than he is.

Weaknesses
Can't resist a pretty face or a sad tale. Doesn't think before he jumps into a situation (hence his presence here.)
Fatalistic, knows he won't make it out alive.
Makes too many "Snide" comments.

Aaaaaahhhh, helloooooo? Did anybody bother... you know... thinking about what kind of monsters we would find exactly ?

Right now, we have zombies (the classic George Romero zombie at that, excellent), and sneaky clawed bastards (excellent too, reminds me more and more of Resident Evil 2, and I mean the game not the movies).


Or how far into the adventure we started? I mean, I think it's pretty clear somewhere in the middle of things, with a few survivors left huddled in groups and slowly dying off... but I wanted to be sure everyone kind of got a general idea.


Also, Steiner, mind being me the first other survivor you find?
 
Yeah, this exact issue kinda leaped up and bit me somewhat. ;)

I assumed that no matter what, the creatures would resemble hideously deformed townspeople. I went with Zombies, because I doubt that the soldiers got a good look at them - well, the survivors anyway.

They could have blades for hands, but from the original post, I assumed the nasty knifey ones were something new and different.

And I have no problems meeting up with your character right away, Katamari. I'll be arriving with two or three soldiers who I'm deliberately not describing so that anyone who wishes to create a grunt later can do so without having to amusingly insert themselves improbably into the narrative. Also we may need people to die at the right moment. :)
 
May I suggest we lay down the specifics of the zombies now? I participated in a Dawn of the Dead thread, and we kinda didn't continue it long enough to make this an important issue... but this thread has potential.


If we go Romero, zombies are slow, rotting, brain-dead and kill with bites. From there on, we can go three routes:
1- The zombies die off after some time.
2- Some zombies are deadlier because they retain some intelligence. They can use weapons, although with little skill (and firearms would rarely be deadly unless you really wanted to get hit).
3- The zombies are transforming into something. My favourite example of this is the Resident Evil Remake for the Game Cube console. If you killed a zombie without burning or decapitating the body, then it rose as a faster, stronger enemy with clawed hands. The "Crimson Heads".

It's pretty soon to discuss this, but the sooner we do it...
 
Me, I'd rather go with the regular zombies (dead humans, slow, strong, stupid, numerous) that are the natural result and have SOMETHING manipulating the virus to create the super zombies (mutated humans, fast, strong, cunning but stupid, rare).

That way we have a mystery to solve - why some humans die and turn into the low threat zombies and why others mutate instead of dying and turn into the bigger nasties.
 
I'm pretty sure, but don't quote me on this... the zombies are supposed to be the numerous slow moving type of ones, ala dawn of the dead, and the claw beasts that ripped everything apart are supposed to be pretty reminsciante of Resident Evil. The first post says it's supposed to be a combination of Resident Evil and Silent Hill. But then again I could be completely off there.

Ok then. Let's have the clawed ones be the result of a strange mutation, and the smart zombies be the result of direct tampering.
 
I think Chaos would be the one to shed light on all of this, but it doesn't look like she'll be posting on here for a little bit today.

Sorry about the scarce details...........didn't expect the thread to explode like a fat man at an all you can eat buffet.

The zombies are your typical Resident Evil zombies. Somewhat slow but can sprint at a quick pace. The zombies may develop into something a bit smarter later. Not sure on that. And don't worry about the zombies running out. It was an entire town that was infected and every day survivors are dying off. If the survivors die by a zombie or any other monster, they ultimately become a zombie or mutate into something more. If the survivor dies from a gun shot then ultimately a zombie will snack on them. No shortage of zombies.

Zombies= slow and stupid for now.

Onto the bigger monsters. Just think of your typical Resident Evil monsters. Hunters, Lickers, Dogs. Typical things.

I'll be bringing other things in as I think of them.

And its currently around three weeks into the infection.

Theres some evil scientists running around who dont want the monsters to be destroyed and are picking off survivors. (Think of the crazy church people from Silent Hill.)

Hummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm................................................................
