While out shopping during this time of year which phrase do you want the check out person to say to you?

I personally think the whole "war of christmas" thing is a load of bullshit, so I could care less whether they say "happy holidays", "merry christmas", "happy hanukkah", "enjoy your season of happy times", whatever. It probably has to do with the fact that I wasn't raised with any religion and I'm still not religious now. Whatever makes the person who says it happy will be fine with me. ^^ I like to say happy holidays because it includes all of the holidays that occur during this time of year.

I think the correct term nowadays is "Seasons Greetings" if you work in retail.

Ahh, forgot about that one.

But do remember, Walmart's "taking back Christmas" by purposely saying "Merryu Christmas" because all of the evil non-Christians (nothing against Christians, I just hate the extremists who come up with this stuff) are trying to ruin Christmas!

I forgot about that one Vamp.

I work afternoons and listen to Bill O'Reily on the radio while I drive home and he talks about this a lot and how he is boycotting certain stores because they don't allow their check out people to say "Merry Christmas."

He says it's disrespectful and that the United States is a country with a Christian History and that Christmas is an American Holiday.

My opinion later.

I don't care, as long as I get presents...and socks..and rum..

*grumble* I'm not even going to get started on Bill O'Reilly, or I'll be here all night. ^^()

I think that as far as my personal preference it just doesn't matter. I have to say that I do agree alot with what college geek had to say on the matter. I think that we all have bigger things in this world to worry about personally.

My preferred greeting? "Your total is...."

I don't go to the store to make friends or be buddies with the cashier and use the self-checkouts as often as I can. I prefer them to do whatever is the fastest for me to get out of there.

I like college geek's "Enjoy your Season of Happy Times", I think she might be on to something with that one.

I'm Christian and I celebrate Christmas but it's not the only holiday at this time of the year, so I don't take it personally if someone doesn't wish me a Merry Christmas.

Seems to me we all get bogged down in the things that have nothing to do with any of the sentiments this season brings. Whether we celebrate Winter Solstice, Christmas, Kwanza, Chanukkah or something meaningful personally, I think it's about being inclusive and kind to one another (and not just one moment of time).

We can be smarter than to fall for semantics ~ I hope.

So, taking college geek's lead...

Enjoy your Season of Happy Times!

The Phrase I want to hear....

"Everything is half off today only."

That would about make my Christmas.

On another note, as one of the only Christians who openly admits it around here, I actually am just glad that so many people celebrate the birth of our Savior whether they care about the true meaning or not. :D

I work retail and I hate this fuckin' season. I usually say their total, bag their shit and shoo them out the door. If they don't know what to buy Aunt Velma then what makes them think I know what the old bag wants?

Retail this time of year can be a nightmare. Anyone who works it has my sympathy.

My favourite Greeting is anyone the person giving it to me sees fit to say. As long as it isn't something rude. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays.. Whatever.. It's nice for a person to be polite.
