It's the 22nd century. With the invention of LightSpeed Drive, human beings can now travel between the nearest stars with relative ease. Four light years can be covered in four weeks.

One of the biggest surprises was that space wasn't teeming with alien races. The most advanced life form ever discovered was a very primitive fern. Mankind and the life forms that evolved on Earth have been planted on every habitable planet within fifty light years of Earth. Mankind reigns supreme over all creation.

That's about to change.

Starbase Tycho is a scientific base maintained by the Terran Republican Fleet. It's 70 light years from earth, 20 light years from the nearest Terran colony (so basically 20 weeks from the nearest settlement). The base contains 70 personnel, either scientists or support personnel. Although everyone on board is technically military, it's fairly relaxed. There are shuttles on the station, as well as a small ship that, in an emergency, could

Unknown to the members of the base, they are being observed by an alien race, who are deciding when and where to make first contact with the human race.

If you'd like to participate, send me an email before you post. Available characters include male and female members of the base, plus the alien race. As this expands, more alien races might come in contact with Starbase Tycho. For now, though, there will be only one race to deal with.

Restrictions:

No anal, no rape, mild nonconsensual (no pain or injuries, but perhaps a bit of involuntary pleasure and disrobing)

Tentacles OK, just as long as they aren't slimy!

Storylines can include relationships between base personnel and, of course, first "contact" between humans and aliens!

Again, email me first if you want to join.

Sonja

My character:

Cadet Sonja Brooks
Age:18
Height:5'6"
Weight:110 lbs.
Measurements:34D-25-33
Fair-skinned, hair red/brunette and slightly longer than shoulder length, hazel-green eyes

Sonja was admitted to the Terran Republic Fleet Academy at 16 years old. A brilliant mathematician, she was posted for her cadet cruise at Starbase Tycho. She is very shy and, due to the fact the she was 2 years younger than the rest of her class, and smarter as well, she really doesn't have much experience interacting with other people. In fact, despite her remarkably good looks, she's never even been kissed.

Sonja starts off her day on a 5 day training flight, assigned by the base commander. She plots the parabola of her flight course for the entire trip, and then settles back as the shuttle flies it course. Theoretically, she's out here to make observations. In reality, the commander wants to see how Sonja handles being on her own for five days. Sonja doesn't mind. People confuse her at times. Being with her own thoughts is actually quite comforting.

John looked out of the main observation deck , the stars looked the same as those back on Terra and some of them actually were the same just nearer not that you could really tell just be looking at them.

He was not a happy man, at this moment he'd just been advised that his request to increase the security of the base by bringing in a fighter squadron had been declined. So then he'd asked for another dozen personnel thinking that he would get the lesser of his requests but again had been turned down.

High command had fallen for the trap that so many others had...just because we haven't found anything more advanced than a fern didn't mean we won't encounter other races capable of inter stellar flight, for all our achievements in the past 200 years we haven't even left our own backyard in terms of exploration of the galaxy.......and it was a big galaxy

So he had 8 people under his direct command, and a total of 70 to call on if the need arose, enough to offer resistance for about 10 seconds , John shook his head chilled himself for being so negative...there was actually strenght on this station, not least of which was himself, he just hoped it would not be tested.

Ian Cargill

OOC:

Name: Commander Ian Cargill
Age: 38
Description: 5'11", lean but muscular build, dark hair thinning on top, gray eyes, Scottish Ancestry
180 lbs.

A physicist and engineer by training, he has been placed in command of Starbase Tycho. He is reserved, keeping a friendly but distant relationship with all his subordinates on the Starbase

IC:

Location: Commander's Office, Starbase Tycho

Ian rubbed his eyes. He needed a vacation.

Actually, he decided, he needed to get laid.

It had been almost a year since he had been assigned to Starbase Tycho, and it would be another year before he got rotated out. Five months from anywhere, Starbase Tycho served as a scientific experimentation and observation post on the edge of known space, as well as a stopover for the rare exploration vehicle heading out for or returning from a survey mission.

The starbase was a very tight community. Since half the crew were commissioned scientists instead of regular fleet officers, discipline and order tend to be a little on the relaxed side. They were not non-existent. And Ian always made sure he observed every regulation to the letter.

Including the one about fraternization with his subordinates. After a year, that one was getting old real fast.

Ian looked at the paperwork in front of him again and sighed. Another request from Lt. Eiselmann for more personnel and more hardware. Ian shook his head. The lad was overqualified for his current posting. Fleet should have put him in a sector where they were having problems with pirates or seperatists. Instead, Lt. Eiselmann was put in command of a security detail whose only jobs were to break up domestic squabbles on the station, or stop fights that occured when the crews of visiting ships wanted to blow off a little scene. In Ian's mind, they should have put a career senior NCO or warrant officer in charge of the security team here. Someone with MP experience. Definitely not a combat officer.

Ian knew that Lt. Eiselmann belonged to the school of thought that just because the Human Race hadn't run into intelligent life so far, didn't mean it wasn't out there. Ian believed that too. But Starbase Tycho wasn't going to be the front line of an alien invasion. When intelligent life was discovered, it would be a Human Survey ship that found it.

Ian looked at Lt. Eiselmann's requests for a starfighter wing. Maybe the station could use a single starfighter. Just because the station hadn't had any pirate problems this far away from nowhere didn't mean it was outside the realm of possibility. And maybe it would stem the flow of requests from Lt. Eiselmann. Ian modified the request, stamped it approved, and forwared it to Fleet Headquarters.

Ian picked up the next piece of paper. Midshipman Brooks had just left on her five day solo training flight. Ian remembered just how well the Midshipman filled out her flight suit.

Ian pushed the image out of his head. If his crew was off limits, cadets were doubly so.

Just one more year, Ian. Just one more year.

Additional guideline

OOC: Please don't post an alien contact until we actually get a player to roleplay the Alien. Once we do, we'll go from there. Until then, intelligent alien life is still just a theory to Humans, not a fact!

Sam was in the launch control room as Sonja's shuttle left the docking port to go on her latest assignment. He'd only been at Starbase Tycho for a couple of weeks but looked forward to seeing Sonja around the ship. She was the first one to try to get to know him as more than just another crew member when he first arrived. He noticed her right away. God, with a body like that how could he not. He wished he had been trained in a field that would have allowed him to go with her on one of her missions. Well, maybe some day.

"Ah yeah" "Computer what is this place again?"
A machanicaly twangie female voice. "STAR BASE TYCHO. zone 11, chart 16, open military, fuel, lounge, docking bays unknown."
"Ok lets try this again....Starbase Tycho this is Merchant Ship Star Dreamer, licence number IS789-2-456 requesting landing instruction, over."
Ten seconds later Rex heards:
"Merchant Ship Star Dreamer-be advised bays one through eleven are for military use only. Do you carry any military cargo?"
"Star Base Tycho, military cargo,no that would be illegal,Interstellular rule,11-2, any civilian carrier transporting military cargo without a MSI licence is subject to seizure and loss of license...No I have no Millitary Cargo_OVER.
After twenty seconds:
Merchant Ship Star Dreamer proceed to docking bay 14B have all cargo manifests and licences available for Dock Master upon egressing your vehicle.
Rex shakes his head. "Computer did he say' egressing your vehicle', did I hear that right?"
"Rex.you forgot again, open military, yes egressing your vehicle is standard landing phasing for what you want to do, land the damn ship I need fuel!!
"Computer, Damn girl I'll get you fed, chill out."
Rex cruises around the Starbase till he finds bay 14B and gently fits in to the bay and locks the Star Dreamer into place. He gathers his E-Books and breaks the airlock and opens the ship's door. The docking bay opens to a burly cheif. Dock Master patch on his uniform.
"E-Book or papers, please!" says the Dock Master.
Rex looks around.
"So this is Star baseTycho, heh, kind of on the small side, chief. "
"Thats Dock Master Barstack to you, box hauler" the chief replied.
Rex is taken aback back by the Dock Masters remark.

Sonja

Sonja looked back at the station to watch a civilian cargo ship docked with it. Wondering what it's doing out here in the middle of nowhere? Sonja mentally shrugged. She'd find out about it when she got back from her five day test cruise.

The console on her shuttle beeped. It was replaced with the stern visage of Commander Cargill. "Cadet Brooks. A change of plans. Probes have detected an anamoly...here." A map popped on Sonja's console. "Since your shuttle is geared for data collection, we will shift your mission to investigate it."

That was a week out and a week back, Sonja thought to herself. "Um, Commander..."

Commander Cargill raised an eyebrow. "Any problem with those orders, Cadet?"

Sonja swallowed her response. "N-no, sir."

"Very well. See you in two weeks, Cadet." The commander's picture disappeared.

Oh, well, Sonja thought to herself. Two weeks of my own company. I can survive that.

Ian Cargill

Location: Docking Bay, Starbase Tycho

"Stand down, Chief!" a tenor voice barked.

Dockmaster Barstack immediately braced himself as Commander Ian Cargill entered the docking bay.

"You'll have to forgive the Chief, Captain---Lionheart, isn't it? We're on the frontier here, a long way from anything. It makes you protective of the station and the people around you. Something a visitor like you should keep in mind."

Commander Cargill looked first at the Star Dreamer, then at the Lionheart. "So, Captain Lionheart, what brings you so far off the beaten path? The few ships we get out here are usually Fleet Survey and Fleet Resupply. Commercial traders usually don't find much of a reason to head out this way."

Rex smiles and looks down at the shorter man that must be an authority figure
on the station. He had on a uniform but not the kind that Rex had worn.
'He must be some kind of commander or something'. Rex thinks.
Rex continues to smile and looks around before answering.
"Pineapples!"Rex sees the shocked look of the Commander.
"Yes I know 70 light years from Earth and I have Pineapples,2000 credits each, I have 5 in sepend pacs-that means there as fresh as the day they were picked, how many do you want?"

The Alien

Ti-Awl-Ska was excited.

He had been sitting at his monitoring station for three cycles, doing nothing but watching and waiting. Finally, the order had come from the Galactic Federation to make contact with this new species that called itself 'Human.'

Ti-Awl-Ska was the right being for the job. His race, the Vi-Dah-Yah, were touch telepaths. A single touch was enough to establish communications with another being. Two Vi-Dah-Yah's could touch the tip of their limbs together for less than a minute, and hold wide philosophical discussions.

Of course, the first time a Vi-Dah-Yah made contact with a new alien species, it took some time to map out the alien's nervous system. Once communication was established, though, the Vi-Dah-Yah could usually communicate with others of that species with a single touch. And what one Vi-Dah-Yah knew to do, it could pass on to other Vi-Dah-Yah with a single touch.

The Vi-Dah-Yah were the supreme diplomats and artists of the Galactic Federation (made up of countless alien species who lived peaceably with each other and protected each other). So it was not unusual for a young but promising Vi-Dah-Yah such as Ti-Awl-Ska to be assigned to make first contact with a primitive space faring species like these Humans. The Vi-Dah-Yah had the innate ability to find something aesthetically pleasing about any species and its society, no matter how alien.

Even though Ti-Awl-Ska was lonely (being a member of a species that communicated by touching made it difficult to go without touching another being very difficult), he was still very excite to be where he was. The Humans were an odd but exciting species. The probes monitoring them show that they were a wonderful collection of contradictions. Ti-Awl-Ska couldn't wait to actually get to "talk" to one of them!

And now the chance would come. The Federation had order Ti-Awl-Ska to establish initial contact with one of the Humans, establish dialogue, and make an initial determination if regular communications should be established with these Humans for their eventual inclusion into the Galactic Federation.

Ti-Awl-Ska watched with happiness and excitement as a tiny vessel departed from the Human space habitat that Ti-Awl-Ska had been monitoring. His scanners showed the device would be making a circular flight that would take it out of Human Space Habitat's scanner range for some time. That would mean Ti-Awl-Ska could intercept the small vessel and establish communications with its occupant without being detected directly or indirectly by the Human Space Habitat.

It was no wonder that the flight pattern was circular. These Humans had an affinity for circles, spheres and orbs. Perhaps that's because one of the two sexes of the Humans (the Humans were a symmetrical species that had two sexes, each involved in the reproduction cycle; the Vi-Dah-Yah were a single sex species that reproduced asexually once every other cycle) possessed numerous curves. As luck would have it, Ti-Awl-Ska's scanners showed the small vessel contained a single female Human. Barely mature as well. Perhaps an explorer/diplomat/artist such as myself, Ti-Awl-Ska thought excitedly.

Ti-Awl-Ska looked at itself in the mirror. You're being foolish, Ti-Awl-Ska told himself. This Human will no more know if you are a superior or inferior member of your species than you will know about it. Still, Ti-Awl-Ska groomed itself just a tad more before preparing itself for the interception of the human vessel.

Ti-Awl-Ska looked like a cross between an octopus and a rabbit that had been dyed blue and gold. It had seven to fifteen tentacles (depending on how many it needed at the time; it could form tentacles out of its main mass as need, each one shaped and as sensitve as the task required). Rather than being slimy, each tentacle and the main body were covered with a soft, fine fur, the thickness of the fur again matching whatever was required for the task at hand/tentacle. The main body of the Ti-Awl-Ska was about four times as big as a standard human male, with seven eyes scattered about, each looking the eyes of a Terran rabbit. Ti-Awl-Ska was particularly proud of the pattern of gold and blue on his fur. It announced he was a member of the main line of the Goh-Vahn clan, a clan that had produced many famous artists, including the legendary Bran-Rem-Ince, whose mastery of many artistic mediums made him the most admired artist, living or dead, in the Galactic Federation.

Ti-Awl-Ska readied the initial aural communication that he would broadcast to the Human as Ti-Awl-Ska intercepted its vessel. Ti-Awl-Ska could haved used this type of communication to establish a dialogue with the Human. But anybody could do that. The Federation wanted somebody to get to know those humans better. In order to do that, Ti-Awl-Ska would need to "Talk" with this human.

"Starbase Tycho, this is Shuttlecraft #4, preparing to enter a communications shadow."

"Roger that, Shuttlecraft #4. Talk to you in a day or so."

Sonja turned off the communications console and picked up a book. The shuttlecraft was pretty much flying itself and all she had to was wait and watch the instruments.

Ti-Awl-Ska did a brief meditation exercise before it did three things. First, it deactivated the shield device that made its ship invisible to the human vessel. Then, it activated a device that made sure the human vessel's ship was powerless and unable to communicate with the human habitat. Finally, it activated a beam that brought the human vessel into its own.

Ti-Awl-Ska knew the human was probably very impressed with the site of its ship. The ship was designed by the great Vi-Dah-Yah artist and ship architect, Wri-Loy-Tee. It was mean to impress any who saw it with its beauty and majesty.

Ti-Awl-Ska finally activated an audio message that would continually play on the human's speakers. "Be at peace. I mean you no harm."

Sonja was reading a book and only halfway paying attention to her instruments when it happened. Out of nowhere, a ship appeared. It was a big ship, almost as big as Starbase Tycho. And it was so beautiful! It seemed to radiate all sorts of different colours: midnight blue, black, purple. It was crystalline with curves and columns. It looked more like a work of art then a space ship.
Sonja was wondering how the ship had appeared out of nowhere when she realized THIS WASN'T A HUMAN SHIP!!. It...it was an ALIEN SHIP!!. Sonja realized that the first human to make contact with an alien sentenient species was going to be Cadet Sonja Brooks.
Before she could do anything, all the power meters in her shuttlecraft went down to zero. Only life support was 100%. Then there was an opening in the alien ship, and Sonja realized that some invisible force was drawing her inside. Sonja's heart started accelerating until a voice on her speakers started saying over and over "Be at peace. I mean you no harm.". The voice sounded fake, like something computer generated. Sonja hoped that whoever was in control really didn't mean to hurt her. Sonja watched silently as her shuttlecraft disappeared into the alien ship.

Lt John Eiselmann

John was at his console in the security offices which occupied three small areas on the base...one by the command center, another by the docking bays and a third operated as a small holding area for the occasional problem that happened on any base.

John had been here 3 months and had worked his command hard to get them to a good state of readiness and now was comfortable with their performances.

He knew that the commander thought him overly qualified for this position and in truth so did John...he wasn't here by choice but as a form of punishment , being a Leitenent was a dangerous thing ...senior enough that being made an example of had an impact , junior enough that you had no real protection when things went wrong, and wrong could discribe his last mission...he'd been sent in with a troop to put down a rebellion and hostage situation in the Kesel mines, unfortunately high command had miscalculated how big the rebellion was, his men walked into an army and while he had managed to get 20 hostages out as well as destroy the atmosphere generators in the mine thereby ending the rebellion before it spread he'd failed to save a planetary Governors son who had infact been part of the bloody rebellion.....and it turned out the Governor had billed the military for the damage done in the mine......the windbag had pushed the claim to Federal Command and it had mostly fallen right on John's feet...then pretty much everywhere else on his body

He watched the monitor as the freightors captain explained his presence to the commander it was a hell of a way off the beaten path for a commercial vehicle so what the hell was it really doing here.

Commander Cargill scratched his chin. "Ten thousand credits for five pineapples? I'll tell you what, Captain Lionheart, I'll have my quartermaster come talk to you. Perhaps a barter of some type can be arranged for your pineapples or any other cargo you see fit to part with. Also, my security officer, Lt. Eiselmann, will be down here shortly to inspect your ship. I would appreciate it if you don't give him any problems while he performs his duty. And, as I am the final and ultimate authority in the surrounding 400 square light years of space, being on my good side would be to your definite benefit." With that, Commander Cargill left the docking bay.

Ti-Awl-Ska

Ti-Awl-Ska went down to the docking bay of his ship. He was finding it very hard to suppress his excitement. He was about to establish communications with a Human. Who knew what this might mean for his future?
Ti-Awl-Ska waited in the shadows for the Human to emerge from its vessel. Then he would present himself as soon as the Human was completely out of its vessel. Ti-Awl-Ska was very sure the Human would be impressed with the sight of Ti-Awl-Ska.

Lt Eiselmann

John approached the ship with a sensor clip board in hand ,a sidearm in holster, and Private Janas a few feet away , she would stand guard by the ships entrance until he cleared the ship completely.

"Captain Rex Lionheart , Pineapple merchant ," he said with a dead pan face" what else are you hauling Captain?"

John knew there was more to this captain than met the eye, for even with the sale of Pineapples he would not cover his costs getting here let alone heading back to the nearest port, and merchants never did anything that wasn't to their advantage...so there was another reason to uncover here and John intended to keep a close eye on Rex Lionheart until he had more answers....answers that made sence.

Sonja

Sonja checked her instruments for the umpteenth time. It kept on saying the air outside was breathable, with no danger detected.
I can't believe this, Sonja kept on saying to herself over and over again. I'm going to be the first person to talk to an alien species. ME!!!! I'll be the one they talk about in the history books!!!
Sonja opened up the door of the shuttlecraft. As soon as she did, the message being repeated over and over again on her speakers finally stopped.
Sonja walked into the alien docking bay that held her shuttlecraft. It was even more beautiful than the outside of the ship! The colors were brighter and more varied and changed all the time! The shapes weren't rectangular like her shuttlecraft. Whoever had built this ship had done so with an artistic flair.
Still, there was no sign of an aliens.
Sonja stepped all the way into the alien docking bay and called out. "Hello? I come in peace!"

Rex studied the the Lieutenant as he aproached with a delightful assistant with her hair up in a very military way, sexy. Rex looks at the the patches on the uniform and sees one he recognizes. 'The Devil Rays, fighter ships' Rex thinks.
"Tigersharks or Stingrays?' Rex askes pointing to the patch.
"Tigers" he answered without thinking.
"Tigershark is a fine ship, heavy though, I prefer Spiders."
Rex hands his E-Book and manifest to the Lieutenant.
"I was with the 43rd Scouts out of Starbase Granger!" while the Lieutenant was focused on the E-book, Rex turned his attention to the private.
"Have you ever seen a Spider ship...Ah private Janas? Very tight little ship fits in allmost anywhere, and hard to forget!"
The Lieutenant looks up from the E-book and looks at Private Janas and sees her blushing. "Attention, private!"
He returns his attention to Rex.
"You have a few problems with your manifests, like this.....

Sam

Sam was hanging around the docking bay when the Star Dreamer came in. He walked out to take a closer look at the ship and was half listening to the exchanges between the Captain of the ship - "I think he said Lionheart" he thinks and the others that have come to the bay. He walked around to the entry port of the ship and noticed Private Janas standing guard as Lt. Eiselman boarded the ship to inspect it. There was something about Pvt Janas standing at attention like she was that almost made him stand at attention.

Sam had noticed her around the ship before but hadn't had a chance to talk to her much, just the casual hello's and how's it goin's as they met in the passageways of the ship. She definitely is attractive though.

Sam thought about how lonely he was going to be for the couple of weeks Sonja was gone. She seemed to be about the only one interested in getting to know "the new guy" yet. Most people only wanted to talk to him about the systems he was assigned to maintain.

Ti-Awl-Ska

Ti-Awl-Ska watched in excitement as the Human exited its space vessel. It was a female of the species, the gender with the pronounced affinity for curvature. This female seemed to possess pronounced spherical qualities, particular in the upper portion of its body. For some reason, the fur that grew from its top was bound.

Ti-Awl-Ska watched as the Human examined its surrounding. Ti-Awl-Ska gave itself one last grooming before stepping out into the light, allowing itself to be sen by the human.

Sonja

Sonja froze as the alien appeared. It's a--- it's a--- I don't know what it is!!!!

Sonja wasn't sure what she was expecting. Vulcans maybe. Or Klingons. All those old Star Trek shows had been remade and put into hologram form and Sonja knew them all by heart. But the alien she was looking at didn't look anything like what she expected an alien to look like.

Maybe it wasn't the alien. Maybe it was the alien's pet.

It had tentacles but it didn't look like an octopus. Not exactly. And the tentacles kept on changing shape. They grew and shrunk and even changed shape at the end!

The main body was pretty big, maybe seven foot tall and pretty wide as well. And the alien had these big deep black eyes that looked...well, gentle!. And it was covered with blue and yellow fur. Even the tentacles were covered with the fur. Not slick and slimy like an octopus tentacle.

Sonja had studied anthropology. She knew human beings in ancient times human beings would present their hands open to show they had no weapons. Sonja held her arms wide open with her hands open.

She felt pretty silly, but she told the alien, "In the name of the Terran Republic, I welcome you in peace."

"You have a few problems with your manifests, like this....."
John looked up at the merchant then continued "Gravitronic Traction Compressors 200 of them, wouldn't normally be a problem except the compression system on this model is unstable and likely to explode with any change in gravity......you are not taking them off this ship you are not moving them and if I really don't like what I see when I inspect them you can take the ship out and jettison them "

He looked at the merchant he expected a battle ...ex military or not no merchant would abandon goods worth millions in credits willingly
