The Ruby of Beauty (DM-driven SRP; CANCELLED)

OOC:

SRP CANCELLED.

What this is:
For those who haven't read the OOC discussion preceding this thread, I'll explain how this SRP is going to be different from most others on this board. The players will be in charge of their characters, much like in other SRPs, but I - the Dungeon Master - will not play a particular charcter. Instead, I will be helping guide the storyline and play 'the world', which is to say natural events, other characters, etc. I will be the one writing about a gruffy townsguard, who decided to arrest your characters for their suspicious appearance, so that you can write how your characters got out of the situation, for example.

This does not mean that non-player characters are all exclusively mine - not at all! You can and should contribute to the storyline and use the non-player characters for that.

The world:
The story will take place in a fantasy world complete with powerful warriors, sneaky thieves, precise archers, and crafty mages. We begin with the player characters coming together in a local tavern, where they will hear from an agent of Queen Katherine of a large reward promised to any adventurers, who can fetch Her Royal Magesty the Ruby of Beauty.

The characters (or how to enter):
The story is open for at most 3 players - 1 male and 2 females.
As much as I hate signup sheets for other kinds of SRPs, I'm going to have one here.
Name:
Gender:
Appearance: (physical description, attire, body language, etc.)
Posessions: (important items the character carries with him/her)
Skills and abilities: (what the character is trained in or has a knack for)
Background: (briefly describe how the character ended up where (s)he is now)

If you are going to do magic, please describe it in detail and make sure to list reasonable limitations.

Fill out and post the above sheet, and jump in to the tavern!

IC:

Queen Katherine was a good-looking woman, even for her years. In late thirties, the time hardly touched her firm, tight body, only adding curves in all the right spots. Many a man lost himself in her deep blue eyes, wishing he could caress those golden lockes of her hair, to shower the large, full breasts with kisses through the low cut in her dress. The Queen was the most desired woman in the kingdom, but that was not enough. She used her beauty as a power, to subdue important and powerful men and make them happily do favours for her. And so when travellers brought word of Ruby of Beauty, which exists in a faraway land, the Queen immediately knew she wanted it. The gem had the power of making the one wearing it appear to the eyes of any observer as that observer's very vision of beauty, as a god or goddess, making him or her wish to do anything the wearer desires.

"Ridder, my dear sweet boy," the queen cooed, softly running her delicate palm over her spy's cheek, who arrived secretly at her request. "You will do this for me, wouldn't you?" She sighed. "I would appreciate it sooo much." One more smile had the spy nearly melting. He agreed eagerly, kissing the queen's hand, and left the palace.

He hurried down to the docks then, where inns and taverns gave shelter and ale to all kinds of tough men and women - adventuers, sailors, thieves, fugitives. Perfect people for the job he had in mind. He entered one tavern, the Purged Parrot, and began scanning the visitors, his dark, dirty cloak covering his figure and head, face hidden in its shadow.

OOC: sounds interesting, I'll give it a shot

Name: Melkar Samhin
Gender: Male
Appearance: 5'10, 166 lbs. of lilthe muscle. His hair is brown, about ear length and often unkempt. He has steel grey eyes. He wears thieves clothing, often somewhat tight, but still loose enough to allow him to move if needs be. He is very cocky and sure of himself, but can also blend into a shadow in a moment's notice.
Possessions: Melkar is never without his two daggers, one of which has been passed down through his family for many generations and contains a powerful enchantment he does not yet fully understand. The other is a fairly common, if well made blade, that he took off his first kill. He also carries an assortment of thieves tools with him in a belt pouch, including lockpicks and items to disarm traps.
Skills and abilities: Melkar is a jack of all trades thief. He is well versed in stealth and assassination as well as pickpocketing and lockpicking. The skill he prizes within himself most is his dagger fighting. Melkar is a practioner of the Invisible Blade style, using his enemies overconfidence against them. Foregoing armor and large weapons to the speed of his daggers Melkar is adept at catching his foes offguard and finding their weakest spots and exploiting them.
Background: Melkar had been born ino a family of thieves. His father was a decent thief, a middle ranking member in the Guild of Thieves in his hometown, but his son was special. From almost as early as he could walk he was trained to steal, and when he was old enough to talk he was conning people out of their money. He had a gift which was why he knew he had to get out of that two-bit city and make his fortune. His father presented him with an ancient dagger before he slipped away into the night, one that had been passed down from thief to thief through Melkar's bloodline. During his travels he learned to fight, becoming a fearsome dagger combatant, winning the respect of a master of the Invisible Blade style, who took Melkar in and for three years taught him to fight. Now, his training complete, Melkar sets out again to make his fortune, arriving in Queen Katherine's domain to seek fame and fortune and everything else he felt was his due.

IC: Melkar had made quite the haul today, picking pockets off merchants and other people who seemed burdened with too much wealth would more than pay for room and board tonight and get him a bit of drink while he was at it. He headed to the Purged Parrot, the tavern he was staying in, and found his usual seat in a dark corner in the back. Handing the barmaid a gold coin he told her to keep bringing him ales until that ran out then leaned back to watch the people come and go.

OOC: Perfect. We now have a nice thief filling the male role. Still looking for two females.

OOC: Looks like there isn't nearly as much interest as the OOC thread had me believe. Might be a good thing, too, since I'm not sure I'd be able to dedicate the time a thread like this would require.

I'm going to close this now. Thanks everyone.
