I've been thinking the same thing. I even got my first ever "asshat" PM the other day...

Everyone was once young and insecure, and everyone was new at one point in time though, so we really ought to be nice to them. New, insecure people who struggle to communicate their interests, sometimes stick around and become interesting, thoughtful posters.

I think I've maybe had 2 or 3 inappropriate PMs, total, in the few years I've been at Lit. Flying under the radar, and not doing the "cyber" thing helps a lot.

I don't think the poor kid from the other day *meant* to be rude; I suspect he's like a lot of people these days, who lower their standards of communication ("U" instead of "you" *shudder*), and never think twice about how incredibly rude it is to approach a complete stranger, as if they are a familiar friend (with all the language/etc that implies). I'm sure he's a nice boy... at least he was by the time I was done with him. I even got an apology.

Urgh.

I still don't get why it pervades boards (not so much here, thank whatever face of divinity you choose to honor).

If they'd stop and think for a moment, they'd realize they've got all the time in the world to present themselves in the best possible light; infinite time to choose their phrasing, and by golly, type out entire words.

LOL, we are in the age of shotening everything , dropping manners and throwing out as much stuff as possible to make way for the new. I really get to feeling a bit disgusted of late when I watch these shows where people go buy houses and do them up to either live in or resell (I watch a lot of house renovating programmes incase I get some handy hints for ours). I can't believe how people feel if a kitchen is 5 years old it is outdated and 'just won't do' even though there is not a thing wrong with it. We really are a wasteful and spoiled society, and unfortunately future generations will pay for our wasteful self indulgence.

As to the new new posters, it has been happening for awhile and I must be getting cynical as I don't believe many of them are real, probably alts of alts of alts who are bored, or just impatient people who don't read the thread below theirs which is about the same issue. LOL, rant over.

Yes, but if they're new, and find it a struggle to even broach the subject with their signifigant other, they might take the cage idea and think it is either A) hostile, or B) that we sit in cages all day long, and anything less isn't proper BDSM.

Call me Mrs. Snooty McSnootsnoot, I know we were all new at some point or other, but it just seems like a little switch went off and all the BDSM sleeper agents in the world migrated here at once.

My solution: a really big cage. Think about it, they will get pretty direct feedback on if they/their partner are "into this," and it will tidy up the place so nicely! It's win/win!

you know, I notice a lot more subs posting (or rather anouncing their subbiehood) on the AM pic board as well. And it did coninside with the flood of posts here. I found it interesting.

Don't even joke about that.

But I know what you mean. Lotsa newbies. I've noticed they come in waves. I mean we'll get one or two, but 'bout twice a year we get a TON of them. Generally they leave (leaving maybe one or two behind), and things calm down. Then in a bit we'll get another wave of them. I'm always glad when we get a whole bunch of new ones, cause they can entertain themsleves with threads no one else will answer again. You know they can say 'my so is vanilla' and all the other new ones can respond to that, cause it's a new conversation to them.
