As many of you know, BS has had some bad luck of late....nearly losing his son at christmas, nearly losing his gorgeous Blaze the year before AND losing his beautiful cat to cancer earlier this year......well...

Yesterday his other gorgeous dog Hector was diagnosed with a tumour at the base of his brain. It cant be operated on but as far as i know the vet can try and slow its growth.

Hector is very special to BS and i know he would appreciate your thoughts and good wishes at this time......

BS hun......you know i am thinking about you and your Hector....take care with all the driving to and from the vets.....and you know how to get in touch if you need anything

Emes, thank you for starting this thread about my very special boy, as you know I have had dogs since I was a nipper and spent a lot of my life Breeding, showing and judging dogs at shows as well as a good deal of time running a Breed Rescue area which extended from South Yorkshire to the Southernmost part of Northants and from the Welsh Border to the East Coast so I have had dealings with literally hundreds of dogs in my time, I have loved most of them, they give so much and demand so little and yet, of them all Hector has been the most special too me for his wonderful personality and character, he used to come into the shop I used to run and where I sold toys so kiddies would always be about and pulling his tail, his ears and generally putting him through the mill but not once did he ever show any animosity toward them, to the contrary he loved them all and showed it.
He comforted me at night after my wife died coming and cuddling me and nuzzling me. wiping away my tears too with his gentle tongue. He is the most characterful dog I have ever known and his antics have delighted and amused many of my friends and callers at the house.
He is known for being a TV adict, any programme with animals in it he would watch avidly although if a big cat came on he would run to the other end of the room and squeak a toy at it or them, he was a scream!!
Sadly now that is all over as he is blind in one eye and nearly so in the other but he still tries to see what's going on when he hears the sig tune of his favourite programmes!
He was, as you so rightly say, diagnosed yesterday with the use of an MRI scan, Ultrasound scan, spinal tap and a thorough examinaiton by an opthalmologist as well as the expert nuerology vet who gave him the most thorough examination and who told it to me like it is. The people at the Animal Health Trust near Newmarket were very thorough and all showed both me and more especially Hector the utmost respect and care. I wish I had the wherewithal to help them fund their excellent facility!

Her are some pictures of Hector when he was younger and healthier. The pics of him sitting on a friend were taken when we were fishing and she lay back for a while to "catch some rays" Hector just walked up and plonked himself on her and just would not get off, you can see the mischief in his eyes, he thought it was a very funny thing to do, a sense of humour in a dog is a very rare thing and although he is now over 11 years old, it still comes out from time to time.

A very special friend and I have been priveleged to be able to have him as a friend for the last 11 years, I hope it can go on for a while yet!

Hey Big...

My thoughts and well wishes to you both... You filled my heart with the love you expressed for Hector and sorrow for what you are dealing with together.

May the days you two have together always have a special place in your hearts.

Thanks for your comment Big Man, they are much appreciated.

My dog Blaze was gravely ill at the end of 2004 and he became well known around the world due to Lit, I want as many people as possible to know about Hector too and for as many as can to send him positive thoughts, I am sure they helped Blaze!

For those who remember, here is Hectors pal, Blaze.

You are in my thoughts and prayers Sal.

{{{{DGO}}} Somehow I knew you'd be around, you always seem to be there when I need support most, Thank you.

I have a dog I dearly love, too. I would do anything for him so I know how you feel. Please give Hector some lovin' from me and I hope that maybe even a miracle occurs. They don't live long enough as it is, much less with illness and such. I hope he'll be ok.

Bs, I'm so sorry that this is happening to Hector and to you. Our beloved pets enrich our lives in so many special ways. He sounds like a very special pet. We may love all of our pets, but each of them touch us uniquely and Hector is your one of a kind.

I'll hope for the least amount of pain for both of you and wish you both lots and lots of love to carry you through this time. :rose:

Thanks everyone.....and giving this a morning bump......

  for BS  for Hector and not forgetting  Blaze

My dog died just a little while ago but he lived long and well. I hope that you will be well, and my prayers and support go to you and him in this time.

Thanks for the good wishes and thoughts, I too am prepared to do anything for him, selfish perhaps to want him around me longer but I will not see him suffer, if he gets to the stage that he is in pain, not enjoying his food or life anymore I will take the appropriate action no matter how much it hurts me (and it will believe me!) I love that little fella to absolute pieces you see and that makes it so much easier to do the right thing.

Denae, thanks for coming here, Hector IS very special, everybody, without exception falls for him when they get to know him although he doesn't look as handsome on the surface as his friend Blaze he has personality plus and is one of the few dogs I have known that has a genuine sense of humour.

ct, thanks for coming here and for your prayers and positive thoughts.
I am sorry to hear you recently lost your special friend, it is always a blow to lose a member of the family, my thoughts are with you also.

(((((((BS)))))))

As a recipient of Hector's happily thrashing tail and welcoming bark on so many occasions I can honestly tell the world that yes he is a wonderful fella. Not sure I have got over the time we took him and Blaze for a walk though, the nerves and the pulled shoulder joints haven't been the same since lol

I know you will do the best thing for him, holding on to him as long as it is right for him but letting him go when you have too. I recently had to take an elderly relative's elderly and sick cat to be put to sleep and that was painful enough. To say goodbye to a member of your own family is so much harder.

Our thoughts are with you
