Australian Motorist Plays Dead For Car Help

(AP) SYDNEY, Australia A driver stranded on a remote stretch of Australian highway Wednesday tried to summon help by playing dead in the middle of the road, a police officer said.

A woman who was driving with her two children spotted the man and had to swerve to avoid hitting him, said Doug Backhouse, a detective with the Western Australia state police.

"She drove around the body — which didn't move at all — and got to the nearest phone," Backhouse said.

Local police arrived with an ambulance and found the man alive and well, but with car troubles.

"The best way he thought to get a vehicle to stop was to lay down in the middle of the road and pretend to be dead," Backhouse said, adding that the man didn't think anyone would stop if he were standing up.

Police said they told the man that lying in the road was "a stupid thing to do," but didn't charge him with any offense.

The incident occurred near Esperance, about 450 miles southeast of the state capital, Perth.

Foolish

Are you trying to prove something with this thread? Other than the fact that the guy is a complete fucking moron?

The title doesn't match the story. The man played dead. Not a woman

Foolish yes, but in a world where if you cry out for help nobody comes to your aid probably necessary. I teach my cchildren to cry fire if they're in trouble because it's just about the only thing that people are willing to help with in an uncaring world.
I for one would not have picked him up from the side of the road if he was standing, because there are too many horror stories attatched to picking up strangers.

Did you read the article? It was a man playing deadin the middle of the road, not a woman.

He knows that, he's fishing for a certain kind of response.

I know.

My point is, because he's a guy, he had to resort to extraordinary measures to get help.

Imagine if a woman had to go through that to get help with her car?

As I've said before... chivalry is all one sided. Men get no courtesy or aid, but women do. If it were the reverse, you'd be screaming misogyny. But now everyone is just saying the man is foolish because he tried to get the same aid and courtesy that any average woman would get if she had car troubles.

I'm not proving anything at all.... except that a guy has to go through theatrics to get help when his car breaks down, as opposed to a woman, who just has to be standing there to get a mile long line of cars full of chivalrous men hoping to be her "hero".

He chose to do that. He could have just as easily stood there with his thumb out.

that is complete crap.

i broke down on the freeway in perth, australia, when i was 8 months pregnant and with two little children in the car.
after trying to get someone to stop and help me for nearly half an hour, i had no choice but to walk carrying my children to the nearest courtesy phone, which was about 7km away... and the temp that day was 39 degree C.
i think maybe the heat was what discouraged people from stopping, but that's not really any excuse.

it's not just men that don't get help you know.

And being a male, no one would have helped him.

Being where he's at? He might have subsequently died of heat exposure.

But then again he's a male - most people don't care when a guy dies like that. It doesn't even make the news.

Let a woman die like that, though, and there'll be a massive media circus, not to mention a new law putting roadside phone boxes and manned police rescue stations every half mile, submitted to Parliament in a month.

You know what, I can't deny your experience. You experienced what we men go through on a regular basis, and it really sucked. You'll see no smile on my face about your ordeal. Especially with that little passenger at risk.

But I will add my oh so predictable commentary here. It's as rare for a woman to be left sitting there with a broken down car as it is for a guy with a broken down car to get help unless he actually calls for a tow truck or flag down a cop.

i like to think of us as an equal opportunity country....
women AND men are equally ignored when they break down here.

I have no idea what I even read this thread all the way to the bottom.

I think you've rendered me retarded with your noncoherent whining. Thanks.

Everyone else comprehended it. Were you just born dumber than the rest of us?

I think that this thread proves that LT still cannot understand what he reads.

The question is, how can anyone help him understand when he can't understand what they write either?

He's like Helen Keller before she met Anne Sullivan.

Wrong again. I'd tell you to read the thread for comprehension but would be like putting Helen Keller at the controls of a 747.

According to YOUR article, the man didn't even try to get help standing up.

Yes, I did. Apparently you didn't. He's a guy, and that means he has to take extra measures to get noticed and get help.

You don't have a counter argument to that. Not even a hope of one. You're not even sure what case you're trying to make here.

According to YOUR article, the man didn't even try to get help standing up.
The point of this thread is, if a woman had to go through theatrics to get help, there'd be a huge outcry. But this guy wasn't going to get help by just standing up, and if he died out there on the road, no one would care.

Now do I need to draw pictures to aid in your comprehension skills? At this point explaining things further to you is like pouring water into a sieve - you're either smart enough to get it, or you're not.

You still haven't read the article’ have you? The guy didn't even try to get help before lying down in the middle of the road. Are you unable to read and comprehend?

My only points here are that your article doesn't support your premise, your reading comprehension must be grade school level and you're a fucking idiot. Is that simple enough for you? Do I need to use words with fewer syllables?
