Thank you to all who wrote poems, read poems, and voted. It is wonderful to see people working and playing together in the spirit of a friendly game!

I will be matching up the poems with their authors and putting up the final three as soon as possible. :rose:

Psyche and Eros

My Love, carry me to your desolation
teach me the beauty that is you
there upon the arid plain
of passion unfulfilled.

My Soul, quench this burning thirst I own
at the behest of a jealous queen
I love you in secret seclusion
unavowed.
My Lord, fear not the jealous ire
of ignorance and greed, these
are faces of dissatisfaction
and I know them not.

You fill my heart with happy delights
with each kiss upon these beseeching lips
Stay here upon my couch, where we shall sing
anthems to the Goddess.

Princess, destruction is the face
of envy as she watches our delight
one to the other as we celebrate
united.

Sacrifice to God and Lady, and cease
despair. Your soul so pure
the impossible succumbs to completion
at your request.

I will always love and need you
even though you walk death's shaded
path, for me, for me.
Only love can pass this test
I feel it in my soul
Psyche smile for Eros
and find immortality.

Cupid's Crooked Arrow

Soft scents of hibiscus, fresh salty breezes still taunt me from a late nite patchouli moment spent in my strange fantasy.

We were a sole clique that evening in the bookstore , across the street from The Lyric, working late, alone, me shutting down computers and Avena cleaning up the Valentine celebration chaos.
I had always enjoyed Avena’s company, unlike the others. I felt a tingling warmth from her slow southern drawl and bright smile but, tonight, most of all, I felt caught up in her long Polynesian tresses of midnight blackness. Finally finished we drank a last Goldschlager toast to loveless nights and one of her locks brushed across my hand.

I don’t know if it was the liqueur or a magic breeze that pulled me to her eyes, my imagination just spun into the mysterious depths of desire. Suddenly we were in Jamaica at the pool hot tub, she with her,,tiki bar uniform and me her novitiate. Avena stared deep into my soul as I watched tan arms remove what little clothing she wore. Her beauty caught my breath in steamy droplets running down her full nipples bouncing in the waves and for the first time, I had desire for a woman... my fingers nervously unbuttoned and unclasped.

Pungent thoughts touched the softness of her form while I watched her ease into the hot jets of the jacuzzi. Her nipples visible hardened as the scented water rose up her torso and her eyes pulled me in. Dripping water from her
body, she fell against my aching skin. My mind began to swirl in rivulets of color as her slender hand inched closer to my exposed breast.
The tip of her breast touched my arm and she reached for my waist and pulled me into the heat of her brown legs,a woman's legs so soft and shaved smooth .
My heart started throbbing hard in the heat and softness of her body. Time lost its meaning; we passed into a daze as we began stroking one another, first thru my panties then hers....We shed both dripping garments in the mist and began touching each other in circular motions, running our fingers inside pulsing wetness of desire’s scent and then we kissed, long, and magnetically deep.

I lost myself inside her mind, her body, her eyes as I moaned for more.

Gently she sucked my tongue between her teeth and want flamed my being into eclipse. We gently, magically released inside each others mouths an energy unknown to me by any other. She moaned and kissed me harder and harder. Still I felt her breast swell as she shared the ecstasy rising up through her. She felt hot and wet and wonderful. I nudged against her hand, and she gently withdrew her finger from deep inside me.
Shaking, she forced herself further into my mouth holding the back of my red hair and screamed as she came hard. I felt the explosion in her fingers, as I bit into her nipple. The girl came on and on, moaning softly and moved to hard kisses on the mouth. ..

And then the lights went up. Avena looked in my eyes, and to this day I still wonder if she was sharing that moment of desire...

My one regret now on each Valentine’s Day is, I wish I had not just imagined my first lesbian affair...with Avena.

Beech Queen

Slim brown buds in early spring
on silver branch and sturdy bough, opened,
first still then bending to the soft moods of April,
to dance and sing promises and light green laughter.

White flowers, a herald no sense could comprehend
of summer's love gave and given, sheltered captured,
held in thrall,enthralled.I scarcely knew
your perilous perfection.The poison dripped
beneath your crown of gold my autumn Queen,
complete in might and power you then defied
even the mightiest oak to stand before you,
his fate to wither, die and feed your empty heart.

Brief honesty prevails in winter's frigid grasp
naked cold grey crone stark in your dominion
alone, waiting out storms and gales of seasons, reasons past.
while I wait too with winters sole companion, foolish hope,
to pray for spring's re-making of our love

Restive

Ugly light twists images into gore
death and more
My heart slams
wakes me to blue-black shadows
Rain on the roof runs into gutters
over flows

Relief washes over me

Slide across the cool gap
to the warm side
her side
We share her pillow

Comfort is to fit to her curves
nuzzle through honeysuckle vines
dancing in the sun
to the nape of her neck
where kisses taste like love

Soft sleep, sighs in the night

"Are you awake?"

She turns playful, nips my chin
"For you baby, I could be"

Stumble

I stumbled
into you one day
to find
there was no way
around or through
but that you
didn't mind.

When on a half-baked
'Sorry, Miss'
stumbling from a script
of well rehearsed,
you smothered,
with a snuck up kiss,
evasion dripped
from my unspoken curse.

I stumbled into you
as if you're polar
for a meander
magnet, tipsy
little stroller.

But such candor
comes from here,
a swirl of know
polished clear;

I didn't really
stumble, I was
already here.

But feet are
stubborn, didn't
want to wander
here,
so all I did
was steer,
and struggle.

It may look clumsy
but try to juggle
fantasy with fear.

I stubmled into you
to see if you would
step aside
or possibly meet
apology with grace.

I never dreamed
of an embrace.

Yukiko

You’re so androgynous, you complain
Boyish and without shape
Your behind! You point out
It’s simply not there!
And your breasts are like two fried eggs
Thrown against a wall
Your unruly hair, you sigh
Is like a scouring pad, too often used

What are you laughing at? You protest
I’m laughing at perfection
How it mocks itself
It would have me believe it is ugly
Something to be abused
A sick joke told in bad taste
Why is it so difficult to accept?
You are simply beautiful

How thrilling your body feels
As it moves under my weight
The friction of your skin in the grind
Passes like a flame beneath mine
Its musky smell, crisply clean
And the wells of your lubricious eyes
Deep and sex hungry

But if you prefer my vision warped
You are never a chore
I’ll take the wayward schoolboy over my knee
And spank her minimal arse
Whatever I warm or cut with my tongue
Wherever my hand glides
It can never experience better
For it’s had perfection
You. Beautiful you.

Beyond Promise

I love how you page through vacation guides
to find me the perfect sunset
and write poetry in the margins.

And when I proclaim
"Wrapped tight inside of you, I die I die I die!"
I love how you don your silver suit of armour
to rescue me from yourself,
from this golden dragon of desire.

teeth waiting for the call
flesh waiting for the call
breath waiting for the call to arms

I love how you tint me purple
and dress me in the queen's robes.
Oh how you love the layers
and layers!
How you love
the lifting
and lifting
and the modesty
that holds material
between.

I love how you make fruit grow
from my hands
and firewords flicker in eyes

Smoothed to perfection
you take my skin
and claim it
and tame it
and promise
nothing.

Chocolate People

i believe the initial cocoa bean ripened
in the honeyed pool of flesh
above your collarbone.

i can imagine the first harvest
when women in red scarves
stood upon your chest

stooping to gather sticky husks
into flat wooden sieves
which balanced on ample hips

tossing the hulls high, high
against a sky that speaks
the scent of ancient tigers.

their men, clothed in sheen,
walk across your belly,
to collect the tanned seeds

caressing the gleam, inhaling
the bitter burnt, never tiring
of the silken slide off fingertips.

these dark apparitions still play
in your hollow places
and at the corners of your mouth;

the shadows of chocolate people
that toiled this syrup soil of you
and swam in your cocoa ocean.

Man Ray

Listen

as a rather silly man
my love for you
is...
crazily chaotic
extremely erotic
quite quixotic
excitingly exotic
infused with a seductive narcotic

and...

if I were a woman
my love for you
would be...
seriously sapphic
ebulliently ecstatic
dangerously dramatic
existentially erratic
a true lesbian classic

but...

either as man or woman
my love for you
makes me...
relaxed and replete
simply complete
unusually upbeat
emotionally indiscrete
wanting to kiss your feet

Valentine Flirt

Valentine Flirt
In the short, short skirt
Putting on us such a hurt

With that smile oh how you flirt
Using your body to divert
Every man’s eye fights to avert

Trying not to think of what’s under skirt
Or the mounds that lay under shirt

Thinking of nothing more than what and where they’d like to insert
How they’d like to feel themselves exert
Until they fall in heaps of spurt

Valentine Flirt
In the short, short skirt
Oh, how you hurt

Drawing Love
(a sonnet)

I draw, watching you, the skin, the pure colour without skin,
without paint, only through eyes, without miracle, only
realization
that I feel, that I mark, that hurts engraved in paper.

They are not an image, the lines, these exalting sketches.
It is climbing a stair to reach
the gaze,
tremulous, of the pupils, of the iris avid for the instant.

Impossible to retain a dream like this without matter or object
with no document or matrix of the very colour, the exact being,
created with the traced drawing a real, but ethereal.

I invent the secret of an adjective shadow,
and draw already your face, the entire body, without knowing
that I draw to love you and that art while drawing is subjective.

My Erotic Tale

Cupid's Arrow

My Cupid's arrow point to the air
pierced her below her pubic hairs
casting
enchanting
feelings called...
Love!

I have it
and she does too,
butterfly stomachs
and feet,
knee deep in glue.

Standing still
and feeling an earth quake.
High enough to hunt ducks with a yard rake.
Goose pimples
that grow from Eskimo kisses.
Eating our medicine
off of bare skin dishes.

Entranced in a pool
behind a set of eyes
a fruit knows not its seed will multiply.
The hunger growls
deep within the mind.
Savoring lips
that kiss back in chime.

Smashed bon bons
on a breast and a thigh.
Wrestling passion @ each others why.
Like two vines intertwined
Driving hips down the highway
to park in an orgasmic sublime.

Cupid's Arrow
now limp as a noodle
another hunger has arisen
time for some...
Valentine strudel.

For the birds

Up against the wall
your hands in mine
kissing you good night.

I'll have you know this is real...
when my heart is with you
and you're not

For the birds it is not
never will be

For you yes it is
For me yes it is

For the birds it is not
never will be

Do you feel that?
i'll hold you for as long as I may
May I...
May I?

Don't ask
It's for the birds you see
For the birds

For the birds it is not
never will be

You're soft, smooth and inviting
Let me touch you
feel the smoothness
between your toes

Oh yes, i would take you right here
A quiver in the muscle of your thigh
Your nipple coral and taut

For the birds it is not
never will be

This is love, My Love
always will be

Her Man

"I love you"
and the poem should end here.
Beyond love, I am a weary stem
that lets go the last petal.

Though never a bloom to begin with,
perhaps a thorn. You pricked me
with warning,

"Don't fall."

A man who belongs
will not open his arms.

I know impact.
I love you,
and it will never end there.

I'm a crooked woman, adoring
with crumpled heart,
broken with delight,
because I hit hard
for you, her man.

Write for Me

Her lips write for me
A soliloquy in desire,
Spoken with caresses.
As we share memories
Through knowing smiles.
Eyes that hint innuendos
With simple glances
In public places
Of private moments.

Experienced I

Until recently I was an artist, I
passed exams and
won awards
but I never could limn
our love.

Now my field is folded
and brushes dry, I can
clearly see the colours.
I know I could paint
a perfect portrait
now our love has settled,
reclining ripe on white sheets
or under blue and green canopy
familiar as your flannel shirt.

If only it hadn’t run
from my palette
or hid in the creases
of the daily grind
before I lost my art.

This Love Must Die

I write meager for my love-
she, dying, airborne bird,
feathered on currents above.

I pen a delicate word.
Alas! But trifling gifts
for her, who dies like a bird.

My bulbous heart, it lifts
as day's brilliant light drops.
Alas! More trifling gifts.

I'll paint my evening crops,
shame the green from its hill
as brilliant light drops.

Some other winged one I would kill
for her breath, even though
it would shame the crops and hill.

Perhaps a meager gift I bestow,
this final verse for my love,
of her lasting breath, even though
she's feathered on currents above.

Exhibition:

lay your hands
on my anthology
glossy, open to the page
where boy finds girl
in a temporary state of paralysis
and licks his thumb

I will hum when you get to the good parts
until I tire of metaphor and pull your shoulders down
squeeze you with my thighs
wrap you in tighter and tell you
this is all there is
this page
this page
where you love me until my spine cracks
and something tears

Whee!

You done a splendido job, S and E.

Congratualations winners <clapping> clutching_calliope, bogus and Liar

thanks to all who participated, the list was overwhelming with great poetry and setting a great tone for valentines that is about to spring upon us. I also agree with anna that perhaps we can continue to do more contests this year and as I always say, there are no lossers but a list of winning writes.

thanks to Anna (Sappho and Eros) for her hard work and expertise in running a contest, wildsweetone and wicked eve for their help as well, this contest had a hick up and I was impressed with the way it was handled, great job every one, excellent contest (~_~) bows humble.

Hey congrats all to the winners and all those that participated. It was fun. Even more fun was trying to figure which poem sounded like who. I only guessed one right. I need to read more poems, me thinks.

 My goodness.

Big congrats to calliope! Almost as big congrats to bb! And a woot! to everyone who participated, organized and voted. It was big fun. :) A really diverse and very enjoyable mix of poems from different styles and still pretty well centered around the Valentime's theme.

Did you people do the guessing game? I tried to connect the poets here to the poems, and managed to recognise only two of them.

I was one of the two, I bet. Stumble was the one I pegged to be yours.

Congratulations calliope and almost as many congratulations to Liar. It's been fun and there have been many good poems. Chocolate People was a great poem and a deserved winner.

Congratulations to cluthching_colliope, bogusbrig and Liar!

Thanks to the three headed Sappho and Eros for a great competition and to all the poets who entered plus those who didn't but followed along and voted in the first round.

Congrats to all the winners--it truly is an excellent group of poems. And Fooly baby, I never did figure out yours. The only poet I knew immediately upon reading was Liar, though I was pretty sure (and turned out to guess correctly) on PoeTess's.

Oh! Congratulations everyone. I loved all the love poems but Chocolate People evoked all of the erotic adoration I like to think of for Valentine's Day.

Write on.

I was a little surprised at the response to my poem, maybe if the formatting had been included in the post, maybe not.
