Music played a bit to loud to chat comfortably with anyone more then two or three feet away and the partygoers mingled, taking hordevoures and champagne from the passing wait staff. Jason was nodding agreeably with some old fart who liked to hear himself speak. This benefit banquette was more boring then the last. They were supposed to be great fun for a 28-year-old, single, rising star, such as himself, but he found that they seldom lived up to his standards. But then, few things did.
He pardoned himself from the conversation he was ignoring and went in search of another glass of the mediocre champagne, when out of the corner of his eye he caught a exquisite sight. The creature's crimson red hair was piled high atop her proud head. Her earrings dangled near her neck, tempting one to admire the graceful lines. Her elegant black dress hugged all the right places, and floated down to the floor, showing class and style. He found himself staring; needing to know who this woman was.
He casually strolled up to her, handed her a full goblet of champagne, took the empty one and gave it to a passing waiter. “Jason Claremont, you’ve been expecting me,” he said interrupting her conversation. Maybe he was her client too, or a prospective one. Either way, Ol’ Roger knew when to let Jason be and he gracefully bowed out leaving Jason alone with the gorgeous woman.
Jason took a sip of his drink, his eyes locked with hers; daring her to challenge his comment.
