((OUT-OF-CHARACTER: This is a roleplaying thread set in the Fourth Age of Middle Earth.

Please feel free to join in, starting with your character's description.))

SETTING
It is the Fourth Age.

Although Elrond’s twin sons remain in Rivendell, most elves and surviving heroes of the War of the Ring left Middle Earth and sailed to the Undying Lands.

All the surviving Orcs and Uruk-Hai find refuge in the depths of Moria, where they degenerate in size and stature over the centuries; Orcs now range in height from 3 to 5 feet tall, while Uruk-Hai stand 5 to 6 feet tall. Trolls and Olog-Hai join the Orcs and Uruk-hai in Moria, forming a “nation” of sorts. All dwarven efforts to reclaim Moria fail miserably.

A new dwarven nation founded by Gimli, Son of Gloin, in the underground tunnels underneath Helm’s Deep, finds its own population dwindling from the usual low dwarven birth rate and the alarmingly high death rate – mostly from the casualties brought about by the many attempts to take Moria from the Orcs and Trolls.

Of the original five Wizards, only three remain after Saruman’s death and Gandalf’s departure: Radagast the Brown and the Blue Wizards Alatar and Palando.

All Haradrim unite and declare open war against the Easterling nations. At the same time, the Haradrim also cut off diplomatic communications with Gondor, and a massive Corsair fleet brazenly conducts war training maneuvers along the nearby coasts. Dunedain Rangers report an enormous build-up of Haradrim forces supported by Mumakil heavy cavalry units along the Ithilien border.

The Easterlings blame Gondor and Rohan for failing to come to their aid against the Haradrim incursions. Easterlings finally cut off all diplomatic relations with the West after the last round of Haradrim invasions lay waste to the southernmost Easterling territories. Easterlings unite under one flag against the Haradrim.

The last heir of Aragorn died. Minas Tirith is in political chaos as the most influential families vie for power and control.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTION
* Easterling male

* Large by Easterling standards: 5'9" tall 171 lbs.

* long black hair (usually tied into a pony-tail), brown eyes, bronze complexion, husky/muscular build

* poor eyesight from retinal scarring (what happens when you get hit on the head too many times), near-sightedness and astigmatism

* wears scavenged Orc armor (search long enough, and you'll find armor that fits quite well...)

* stole a medium-sized horse (basically a quarterhorse; with bridle, saddle, saddle blanket and small saddle bags)

Scavenged Weapons:
~ Orc bow and arrows
~ black Orcish blade that somewhat resembles a katana (like the sword Samwise Gamgee scavenged in Return of the King)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v103/Solace001/Archives/LotR/sam.jpg
I'm not sure where I am exactly... All I know is that I am somewhere along the banks of the River Anduin, where I can water my horse, wash my scavenged equipment of their Orcan stench, and draw deep, cool draughts of the fresh water for myself.

I bathe myself around noon, while the sun is high enough to warm these rather cold lands. Afterwards, I tie my long, jet-black hair back into a ponytail, and eat the simple lunch of fruits, nuts and berries that I gathered for myself from the area nearby.

I spend the rest of the day cleaning and sharpening the fine, black Orcan blade I managed to scavenge. An Orc who challenged me for it indicated that it was once wielded by the Hobbit Samwise Gamgee, and is somewhat of a relic.

I care not for its history; all I know is that it is light, well-balanced, holds a keen edge very well, and fits quite well with my style of fighting. It's slight curve and sharpened chisel tip, with its differential heat treatment and folded steel forging remdinds me of the weapons I trained with back East.

North Along the Anduin River

I break camp just before the sun sends its golden tendrils through orange clouds and tangerine sky.

I know that if I follow the river south, I will pass through the lands of Gondor and Ithilien, and eventually reach the ocean. The thought of seeing the ruins of Osgiliath and perhaps even the Citadel of Minas Tirith beckons to me like a starving whore from within the shadows of her street corner.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v103/Solace001/Lit/auction/941f8b38.jpg
So, I head north instead. I don't know if I'll keep heading north or if I'll cross the River Anduin sometime and head west. Somehow, I know I'll eventually figure out where I'm going, and better yet, where I want to go. For now, I'll just very simply head north -- just because something tells me I'd rather NOT go south.

I walk beside my horse for awhile, setting a good walking pace. Riding, of course, would be faster -- but what is the point of speed when one sets one's destination upon a mere whim? Besides, walking with my horse gives me the feeling that my horse is more than simply a beast of burden -- more than just a steed, I can pretend that my newly-stolen horse is my travelling companion, and perhaps even my friend...

I am a big fan of lotr rp's they usually are not that sexual. (well not for the char I create, usually elves.)

Bio.
Bain. 1500 year old female fighting elf, she could not leave middle earth with the rest of the elves because all of her family perished in the fighting. Born and raised on Lothlorien. Blond Blue eyes.

She has her sword, dagger and bow and quiver. A bed roll and small saddle bags. Which have one change of clothes, a few herbs (for basic healing) and some dry fruit and nuts.

Now she is wandering middleearth.

IC-

She approached the River Anduin. Her mare went up to it and drank.

She dismounted and took a drink herself.

Then she heard a sound from along the river. She stood ready, knowing she would be able to draw her sword if need be or even mount up and ride if her ears betrayed her and there was more then she could handle.

I stop in my tracks when I notice another person and the person's horse by the river's edge. Despite my poor eyesight, I catch a glimmer of blonde hair, and wonder if the person is a Rohirrim Horserider.

The Rohirrim have always been at war with my people, and I am very worried that this person might attack me.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v103/Solace001/Lit/auction/941f8b38.jpg
I raise my hand high in greeting, and speak in my best Westron: "Hail! I mean no harm, nor do I seek combat with you. I seek only to travel in peace."

Bain spoke, " I feel no great need to fight either. I am looking only to travel in peace. To many freinds and family have died in war." There was no doubt from her voice that she was female.

She stroked her mares neck. The animal was still drinking.

She was not sure how this man would respond to a female alone. She could see his arms and the like were not normal human type. So she was not sure what to make of that.

Bain spoke softly,"it is not unheard of amoung the elves, of which I am one, for females to be warriors. I have stopped the tradiation of warrior braids but I am still a solid fighter and more then capable of taking care of myself. From my fighting, your arms and amour look more orcish or urik then hman. Are you a freind of them?"

She waited she knew her reflexes were sharp and if he choise to attack her, she would be ready.

"You're an elf?" My blood ran cold when I heard the woman's reply. I koew very little about elves, but I've heard that they are kin to magic and accomplished crafftsmen. During the war of the Ring, the Easterlings -- my people -- allied with the forces of Sauron, and fought against the elves and their allies. Only recently -- after the war of the Ring -- have the Easterlings agreed to a truce with the Rohirrim, and through them, their allies. I can only hope that this elf woman will not see fit to violate the truce between her allies and my people...

"No, I am friend to neither orcs nor uruk-hai," I said, doing my best to quickly answer her question, perhaps to prevent her from attacking me. I've heard rumours that elves are amazing bowmen and don't much relish the idea of confirming such a rumour right now and first-hand. "I scavenged this weapon and this armor from a battlefield where orcs fell."

I placed my sword gingerly on the ground in front of me as a sign of sincerity and non-aggression.

" I ask that you not judge me by my appearance nor my equipment, lady elf."

I pointed to her own weapons.

"There will be no need for you to draw your weapons -- at least, not on my account. I mean you no harm."

I raise my hands, to show that I have no weapons held ready.

"Since we're having a conversation," I say, in as pleasant a tone as I can muster. "I was just wandering the land, going where Fate and my horse might take me. Will you be kind enough to please tell me where I am, and what else lies to the north?"

( just to give you fair warning my middle earth geography is shaky at best.)

Bain watched him closely, " i will not attack a human with out cause. I will not strike out at you, but I will defend myself if you attack me."

She took her bow and laid it over the back of her mare.

"I am not sure of exactly what is north of here if we follow the river, this is an area of middle earth I have not explored before."

She was used to makeing snap desicions," have you eaten this day? I have food to spare."

(OOC: http://www.middle-earth-map.com/ Google is such a wonderful thing... ;) We're along the western shore of the Anduin River, just south of the Limlight. Your character is from Lothlorien, right? If so, then your character would know that Lothlórien was a forest in the continent of Middle-earth, centred at the juncture or 'naith' of the Rivers Celebrant and Anduin. I hope that helps... :rose: ))

"FOOD?!" Although human, I felt me ears perk up at the mention of proferred sustenance. "You are most kind to offer. I have dried strips of meat that I am willing to share, perhaps to complete our meal -- that is, if you wish..."

I unsaddle my horse and take off its bridle. I let her get some water from the river, and then watch as she heads off to some bushes for something to eat. I noticed a few days ago that my steed LOVES to eat...

"Shall I make a fire?" I ask Bain as I look through my saddle bags for my provisions. "I welcome the opportunity for some company. I realized just now how much I miss the company of other people...."

A thought copmes to mind, so I pause to formulate the question and then ask Bain directly.

"So, you're a warrior, you say? Are you really a warrior, or are you someone who did something else for a living, but got drawn into the war and forced to fight?"

Bain pick up her saddle bags off her mares back and laid it on the ground. THen she finished her drink from the river.

"I have fruit nuts and dry bread. SO together we should be able to have a good meal. I have no great need for a fire."

At his question about her 'work' before the war she frowned a bit. "I began training as a warroir before I even reached full adulthood. Once fully trained I became a gardian of the golden wood. That along with being healer is how I spent the ages until the war started."

"I believe if you follow this river far enough you will eventually find yourself in LOthrien. It has changed since the elders have left for the undying lands."

Character Bio.
Arawyn. 23 year old, lady of Gondor. Descended from the line of Stewards who ruled Gondor before the current unrest. She is descended from Faramir, Son of Denethor II. Due to her lineage, which traces back to Lords of Ithilien, she has allys not only in the line of stewards, but also in Rohan. Gondor is currently once again under the Steward's rule, with Turin II the current ruler. The situation continues to be volatile with many rebels and the Haradrim continuing to be aggressive.

(OOC: Ithlien was ruled by Faramir after the fall of Sauron. Faramir married Eowyn of Rohan, and hence Arawyn's ties to Rohan)

She is not only very beautiful, but is also a skilled warrior and diplomat. She is currently dressed in a lady's attire (gowns et al), but is carrying a sword with her by her side on the horse.

As Arawyn looked down from the mountains, she could see two figures very clearly. Horses too. Easterlings? Rohirrims? Elves? She was curious, and a bit alarmed too. She looked back at her companion who seemed to be busy fixing food for them, and called out - "Be back soon. You keep an eye out over the mountains and back me up if need be." And strode out on her horse towards the two figures without waiting for a reply.

As she approached the figures she slowed down to steal up to them and take them by surprise. They didnt seem to notice her crawl up. Then she realised one of them was a she-elf. More re-assured now, she called out to them - "Who goes there? You dont look like Rohirrim. Do you have malicious intent here?"

OOC: Hope you are fine with newbies.

"Indeed," I reply, smiling, revealing the growing gladness in my heart for the presence of company who can reply back in a language I understand. Despite all the time I spent talking to my horse, she never bothered to try to teach me her language -- that is, if horses have one...

I bring some dry, clean driftwood over to use as makeshift chairs, and even though Bain said she doesn't need a fire, I start one anyway. Perhaps it is because I am so eager for the company that I wish to somehow prolong it by building a small camp fire.

I place my provisions on a clean cloth nearby as I work on building the camp fire.

"Please, help yourself," I say to Bain. "I don't know about you, but I've been too long away from polite company, and I appreciate your presence very much."

I look up at the sound of another woman's voice.

"Someone you know?" I ask Bain, my right eyebrow cocking upwards with my query.

I stand towards the voice and raise my hand in greeting.

"Our intent is to sit, eat and share a campfire and some polite company," I say loudly to the newcomer. "You know now that we mean no harm or malice, and would invite you to join us, if you wish. I do not have much, but I am willing to share my rations with you -- in peace."

I walk slowly towards the newcomer so I can better see who she is.

"Now, since you approached us first, perhaps it is you who should introduce yourself first as well."

Bain heard the rustling but her hearing let her to beleive it was only one so she sat and waited for who ever it was to approach or go away.

after the woman spoke her companion spoke to her.

The voice sounded like it was from Gondor but It was unknow to her.

Bain spoke,"I dont believe i know her."

Bain approached the other woman just to the side of the man.

There was something vaugely familiar in her features. Bain had been to Gondor many times and had met at least some of the upper classes and well and regular folks.

She waited for the woman to introduce herself.

Arawyn is somewhat surprised at the polite, yet guarded manner of the man with Orc armor on. At the same time, as the man approaches, Arawyn's hand goes to her sword. She doesnt draw it yet, but gets her grip on it to be ready to fight if need be.

"Why should I trust you, dressed as you are in Orc armor? Who or what are you, and what business brings you to these parts, and where are you headed? Until then, I am just a traveler around these parts - a wanderer of these lands until I know more about you."

Looks at Bain

"And when I see a man who looks like he fights for the Orcs, and a she-elf who doesnt seem to mind his company, I feel I need to know things here better."

Bain looked at the woman. There was something familiar about her features.

She spoke softly, "you are still very young. You have not yet learned that things are not always as them might appear. I have killed many orcs in my life and I will kill any who befreind them. As such, you should understand that I believe this man is no friend of orcs. There are ways other then friendship to aquire waepons and armour, m' lady."

She stopped there and gave the female a chance to think that through and respond.

Arawyn looked at the man, and the back at the elf, and looks embarassed.

"I might have been in error here. Do you recognize me, or do you address me as m'lady for some reason other than that? I am Arawyn, daughter of Turin II, the steward of Gondor. I and my companion are headed to Edoras, Rohan's capital. Then onto Isengard."

Looks at the man

"I ask for forgiveness for what I said. While I maybe too young" looks back at she-elf, "the mistake I made here, was not due to number of years beind me. These are dark times - darker than you think."

Looks at the elf and the man again

"We, of Gondor, have for long tried to reclaim the dark lands of Mordor, and failed. A great evil stirs there, again. I can not tell you more as of now, as I know little. My trip is in that regard, to head to Isengard to seek counsel from Radagast The Brown. I visit Edoras to gather support for my nation against the Haradrims, though I expect little.

Now, would you please introduce yourself as well, what business brings you here and where are you headed?"

"Lady Arawyn, you need not ask forgiveness from me, for I fault you not for your caution," I state simply in answer to the human woman. "I am, however, honoured by the graciousness of your humility."

I glance at the human woman's grip on her weapon.

"I am from the island of Bawa, far to the east and south of Rhun. I am going where fate and my horse take me. My business here currently involves sharing a meal, and then... Well, I don't want to think that far ahead..."

I turn to Bain, and half-jokingly ask, "Do all the women of the Western Kingdoms carry weapons and suspicion so readily? Or does my appearance and countenance call for such caution and veiled threats of aggression and violence?"

I consider taking off my armor, since it seems to evoke such a negative reaction from all who see me wearing it. I hesitate to do so, because I don't have much clothing underneath.

"Are both of you warriors? Or people of the courts in your lands? And what are your names?"

As she looks at their food getting ready, "I will not detain you much longer, and let you have your meal. I appreciate your offer of sharing your meal. My companion was already setting something up for us to eat, and we will gladly share that with you."

~Bio~

Anna
23
Human
Brown Eyes and Hair
About 5'6 in height
Has a sword and bow with her, she wears a black cape that covers most of her and can cover her face if she wanted to be covered up.
She knows elvish perfectly. After what happened with the ring she decided to live with the elves and after a while became another human alley of theres and she was taught how to speak the word of the elves, maybe one day she would find love and know what its like.

(Hope thats ok)

Anna had heard some people in the distance and wondered what was going on, she drew her sword and snuck up seeing some people, she eyed some figures and stood up finally. "And who may you be hmm?" Said a voice, she stayed hidden in the darkness, her way of keeping safe.

Bain's face showed that the name went something to her.

"while I have never met you. I have met serveral of your ancenstors. That explains why you look familiar. I have been fighting for well over 2000 years. Fighting orcs and Mordor. I would be willing to travel with you and to help with the evil that is coming toward you."

Bain felt a change in the air but could not hear anything. "it matters not to me where we eat." She glanced at the man.

SHe began glanceing around. "there is a change in the air. that I cannot place. It is not a normal change."

he slowled watching them were they aware of him and his magic he fed off of like air "what are you doing" he asks the group taht has seemed to have met randomly.
