The Beach:OOC, Casting Call (please join :)

Alright everyone, the premise of this RP is simple, and I'm sure it's been done before but I'm not sure if it's been done in the manner I hope to do it in. If anyone has read the Alex Garland book "The Beach" or seen the movie with good ole Leo DiCaprio in it, the you know what's going on.

Here's the set up:

There's an island located somewhere in Thailand that is absolutely gorgeous; white sandy beaches, palm trees, rich foliage. It's also surrounded by cliffs, so it's hidden from the sea. The only way to get to the island is to be airlifted in (which isn't gonna happen because no one is allowed to be on this island) or swim from an island that's nearby(which is also in a national park and you can only stay there for one night). The only way to get past the cliffs is to swim through a opening, or there's also a kind of cave where a few boats are kept. Now on this island there are two sets of people:

A) Farmers who grow marijuana and then ship it off to mainland. They carry guns and protect their dope stashes furiously. However, they do know about the travelers on the other side, and allow them to be there. As long as no one on the traveler's side bothers the farmers, then they don't bother the travelers. Unless it's a mutual agreement.

B) Travelers from all over the world, who have heard of this amazing beach in one way or the other and come to live there. The founder of the beach invited some friends and together they helped create a sort of beach resort, with running water and everything.

There's really no rules on the traveler's side of the beach. Nudity is encouraged, but please remember to practice safe-sex. We don't want any babies disturbing our quiet island peace. Boyfriend/girlfriend stealing is frowned upon, but sharing is great. We grow our own marijuana, so no stealing from the farmers on the other side. We'll also need to go back to mainland every now and then to buy rice.

These are some categories you could class yourself as on the island:
Fishing detail
Cooking
Building
Gardening

Now we need a "head farmer" and he/she can make up rules for the other farmers.

The traveler's will be led by yours truly .

Name: Aliyah Martinez
Home Country: Mexico
Age: 29
Posistion on island: Head honcho and helps on garden duty
Description: '5'9 and light brown skin, green eyes.
Other: Went to Thailand with her boyfriend and her best friend Janice, but the boyfriend dumped her mysteriously and returned to Mexico. While visiting the National Park, she noticed the island and wondered if she could get there. Being the curious, adventurous type she returned to mainland and convinced her friend Janice to come with her. Together they rowed to the mysterious island, which was devoid of marijuana farmers when they got there. They quickly were enchanted with their surroundings and set up shop on the far side of the island where the beach is.

In your own little description please tell how you became aware of the island and how you got there. You could have been asked by Janice or Aliyah to come and join them, or you could have heard a rumor going around Bangkok about the beach and decided to find out the truth for yourself.

Don't forget that to keep our little paradise a secret, some people are going to have to take a little pain. There will be no going to mainland to see a doctor for just a little problem, and as in the movie, if you get chewed on by a shark, we won't be bringing help to you.

Name: Janice Bowen
Home Country: Texas, USA
Age: 26
Position on island: Aliyah's lieutenant, and in charge of Cooking detail
Description: 5'6" 125 lbs mid-back length light brown hair with blonde streaks dark brown eyes light brown skin (European features)
Other: Janice had met Aliyah some years before when she participated in a cultural exchange trip to Mexico, and the two became close friends. She went with her and her boyfriend on their trip to Thailand. She mostly remained on her own until Aliyah's boyfriend abruptly dumped her and returned to Mexico. Aliyah disappeared for several hours, and Janice began to get worried ... only to have her return suddenly and tell her about a mysterious island in the distance, and did she want to come along to help Aliyah reach it.
She agreed, and the sights they saw there, convinced them to remain.
Janice has had formal lessons on the 'art of cooking,' and while there isn't much call for gourmet dishes at the moment, she agreed to take on the duties as head of the cooking detail ... as well as being Aliyah's lieutenant amongst the Travelers.

Hmmm... Okiedokie! I think I've read alls I need to read! I kinda saw the film. Kinda, in that I saw parts of it. Didn't one of the guys there go a bit nuts, thinking he was in a video game, and having conversations with his dead friend?

Anywhoo, here's my stab at a character

Character info:
Name: Edward Brown
Home Country: Merry ol' England!
Age: 39
Position on island: Fisherman (sterotypical, I know!)
Description: 5'8" 144 lbs Short messy brown hair, pale blue eyes, well built, but not like bodybuilder build
Other: Edward, or just plain Eddie to his friends, had worked as a cod fisherman along the eastern shores of England for most of his life. A skilled boatman, he tended to spend most of his days out on the water, either using the dragging nets to gather a haul of fish for the market, or shore fishing for an addition to the day's meal. Unfortunatly, the fisherman's life was beginning to loose it appeal with all the laws and regulations being braught in to dictate where, how, and when someone could fish commercially. Thankfully, he had quite a bit of cash in the bank, so decided to take a holiday. That holiday took him to Thiland where, after only a few short days, he heard whispers of an island not to far away where there was roumered to be good fishing, if only you made it there and back in one piece. Curiosity got the better of him, and Edward decided to check it out. Finding that the best, or safest way to reach the island was to swim from the national park, that's exactly what he did. Gathering only a few tools, he set off. What he found was far more than what he was expecting

Was tossed overboard during a storm and washed up on the beach near the resort. With a case of amnesia brought on from hitting her head on the side of the boat while going into the water.

She was given shelter and food at the resort and having no memory of who she was, chose the name Sue Brown. The lack of memories makes life strange for Sue but she has recovered and is now living on the island helping at the resort as it turns out she has an affinity for growing plants, especially herbs. She doesn't know why or where she learned about the plants but the knowledge comes in handy for making food more appealing or treating simple ailments. She lives in a small cottage behind the resort, but takes most of her meals in the resort kitchen, occasionally helping Janice with the meals.

LOL I can only guess who's been "hinting" at you to join lol. Basically you can be whoever you want. I don't know if anybody is going to want to play a farmer of marijuana, so those characters can be played NPC.

I suggest just making up a character and since Janice invited you, you can just pretend you rowed back to the island with her.

lol yeah shadow you're just about as innocent as I am Which is not at all.

Don met Aliyah at a sex trip in Thailand. They met at a nightclub (after breaking up with the bf), and Don found it strange that someone who wasn't Asian was accepting him coming on to her. They had sex together and enjoyed each other's company. However, Aliyah was travelling with her friend, so the three spent time together sightseeing.

Ali, feel free to post or PM a physical description of Don. Choose your hunk!

James was brought alone by Janice - who knew he needed to get teh hell out of the city. he'd been working overtime for an arcitectural firm as a draftsman, trying to prove he could be a full arcitect...but was layed off in favor of fresher, cheaper, college interns.

Rough description thus far, will improve it later - but I guess you got your builder.

Scribe is, I have to admit, a truely .. innovative RPer!
