So, I was just wonder how you all get over it? Or, do any of you ever suffer from it? If you look, I haven't written anything in about 3 1/2 years. I want to write, but I just can't get it to flow like I used to. Does anyone have any advice for someone who wants to get writing again?
Thanks

I went through this recently.... someone suggested getting a picture that catches your eye and using it for wall paper... three pictures three stories, one of which ended up being 10 parts... lol

If that don't work, take your muse out to dinner, get him/her drunk and seduce her/him... just don't let them write while still drunk... :D

I've heard all kinds of advice, and it's just a case of finding what works for you. Here are some I remember:

*Listen to music -music inspires emotion and can help you feel inspired and creative.

*Just write. Write anything, a poem, a diary entry, a review, a shopping list(???) anything, just to get writing.

*write a real life experience -start of with something that happened as you have the main details there youjust have to express it :)

*I just think it's important not to push to hard and get yourself upset or frustrated. relax, chill out and go from there.

*Do something else creative -draw, paint, sew, knit, collage -just get the creative juices flowing.

* Hang around the lit boards, join in writing challenges or just chat -ideas will come to you :)

Hope some of that helps!!

although it may be cliche, i find that writing in a journal helps me get over the hump. i had not written any stories for a long time, so i just wrote in a journal, just random observations and what not.

or you could do what a million other people do and start your own blog. :) that could get you in the habit of writing regularly.

I tend to find/start a writing challenge on the Lit boards, somehting that people are involved in and that requires me to participate once I've thrown my hat into the ring. Something like the Voice challenges for example. They usually give you an interesting sentence to kick off with and I toss ideas around limited to that one sentence. Once I start, I'm off and away.

Mostly my writers block is either too many distractions and not enough incentive to finish a work, or banging my head for too long against one piece. Try writing some fluff inbetween - A short vignette on an orgasm, a comic scene between two blokes in a bar. Nothing useful, just something to clear your head and keep you writing. My current escape is fanfiction; I'm writing a 6th season for Angel in script form and it keeps me sanguine. The only problem is that I've shown it to people and it's now become a proper project due to their enthusiastic responses.

Good luck to you.

Fall in love.
With someone.
Or a new hobby.
Or yourself.

You won't be able to stop the torrent of new words!

I think part of my problem is that there are too many distractions. I feel like I don't have anywhere to go to be myself, and just write. I also feel like I have lost my imagination. I glanced at a writers resources book at my library today, and they give all sorts of "workshop" ideas to try. I read them and had no idea how to even start.
Then of course I start feeling stressed cause I can't get what I want out. It definitely doesn't help that hubby can sit anywhere and just write and write.
Ok...need to go get a bottle of wine!

P.s.

Thanks for all the ideas. It is nice to see the vets helping out the newbie :)

One of the ways I've found to get myself going is to write a letter. The kicker is that it can't be to just anyone, it has to be a passionate letter.

Once I get going there, and it's easy because it's about my feelings rather than a "character's," it's easy enough to translate that flow to a story.

Tasha: I'm right there with you. In fact, I'm dossing here when I should be writing! What you need is a deadline and something to force you to write.

Sit down and write me a short story. Non-erotic or erotic, doesn't matter. A story about a messy room. I want it in my PM box by the end of the weekend. No excuses, no dossing - sit down and write.

I'll be waiting for your PM.

oh, forgot to ask....
do you have a word count for me?? :D

The absolute minimum for a Literotica story is 750 words.

You could, of course, join the insane group who take part in the NaNoWriMo contest in November to write 50,000 words in a month...

After NaNo you would know that you have conquered Writer's Block.

Crap,
now I have pressure and nothing is coming.
I am trying to do a non-erotic. Very hard.
I have never written one, and I have no idea
how to...should be interesting.

Maybe you should determine if it is writer's block?

My writing has tapered off a lot for psychological reasons.

I've recently decided I'm going to try and make a living at writing.

Unfortunately, that means I'm going to have to go back to 'The World' once more. I'd been gone away for a long time due to mental illness.

An illness that was both triggered and excaberated by my inability to cope with the pressures of interacting with most human beings. Especially in a work environment.

So I still have lots of ideas, am working on them all the time. But every word I type is one step closer to 'The World'.

And that frightens the living shit out of me. It keeps me from doing much writing.

I found I also write and get ideas while I am running or driving. Unfotunately this doesn't lend itself to immediate writing.

Writing erotic fiction helps if I have a target female or group audiance. Or I know if somebody expects the story. Deadlines help motivate.

Go back and edit an old story. You may find mistakes or a way to start the stream in another direction.

I've been dry for almost a year, but I've started a few non erotic stories and I have been very busy at my job. Lots of ideas, just to lazy to write them.

But I recently took an old story and posted it. Found out the hard way about the 750 word count. But then by expanding it, I came up with a whole new half of the story. Unfortunatly I submitted it to soon and the next day I figured I could have beefed up the beginning too.

This is one of the things I love so much about Lit.
Everyone is so helping, and supportive.
Love that The Earl just threw that out there.
That's the way to make it happen.

Great timing ~!!

As for me. I get writers block on an off.
For me, it is not making the time,
for me and writing. It is very hard
when ya have so many other obligations,
that MUST come first.

What I do?

Get the kids to bed. ~ check
Slow sultry music ~ check
Read, post opinions ~ check
Then let it go ~ err workin toward that now ... :D

Good Luck my Friend ... Happy Writing ~

:)

Umm... masturbate?

hmm....honestly...not my think...much prefer someone else do the "manipulating" ... LOL

but I am working on something right now...
non-fiction (I have actually never written one before..)
kinda funny, cute, sad...LOL

but I have already obviously said this....
maybe what I need is sleep so that I can pay attention......

Two things REALY help, Half a bottle of wine or a whole pot of coffee. They stimulate the muses too.

Just thought I'd report that Tasha delivered the goods this morning: a really entertaining little vignette.

Anyone else want a kick-start?

How about sharing with the rest of us?

How do you put a link to your stories in your signature? General question open to any answer.
I have three stories and one pending.

Well, I'll leave it to Tash if she wants to share with the group as it is her story.

To put a link in your signature simply type this:

[u r l = http://www.literotica.com/putyourlinkhere]These are my stories[/ u r l]

Obviously removing the spaces.

Let me clean it up a bit.
I received some very helpful suggestions.
I will have it up tomorrow morning at the latest.
