NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A mother faces criminal charges after she hired a stripper to dance at her 16-year-old son’s birthday party.

Anette Pharris, 34, has been indicted by a grand jury on charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and involving a minor in obscene acts. The boy’s father, the stripper and two others also face charges.

“I tried to do something special for my son,” Pharris said. “It didn’t harm him.”

About 10 people under the age of 18 were at the birthday party in September, including minors who were not related to the family, authorities said.

Police spokesman Don Aaron said minors are not permitted in adult establishments.

“A person shouldn’t be allowed to circumvent that law by hiring a stripper, a lady who took all her clothes off and spent a good amount of time dancing around minors,” he said.

Anette Pharris took photos at the party and tried to have them developed at a nearby drug store. Drug store employees notified authorities, police said.

“Who are they to tell me what I can and can’t show to my own children?” the mother said.

Why is it ridiculous?

Did she check with the other parents to see if they found it acceptable?

What kind of mother hires a stripper for her 16 year olds birthday??

I think it's irresponsible for his mother to hire a stripper for his birthday party. I think it's irresponsible that she did it when other underage kids were there.

Makes me wonder what else she condones.

Guess this does it for Art Class and Painting of Nudes too.

Indict those Art Teachers and Models!

I don't think many schools have those for the kids ;)

That's got no bearing on your post. You posted about it being ridiculous that she was charged. I don't. Simple.

so what exactly IS the crime, if no harm was done?

It could have been worse LadyG, she could have hired him a hooker.
I know a guy whose parents got him one for his 18th birthday. To this day he still says it's the best gift he's ever gotten.

Gee...I dunno??

Rimmy, hiring a hooker for an 18 year old is one thing, having a stripper at a party, with other kids, is different. Did she ask the other parents first? Come on.

so, you refuse to answer the question "What harm was done?"

You can't enter porn sites on the internet if you are under 18 years of age. It's against the law. So, why is it a shocker to get charged when you hire a stripper for a group of 16 years old? Did it harm them most likely not! But, there are laws and if you break them don't be shocked when the outcome is less than desirable. The question here is did she get permission from all the parents of the kids who were under her care at the party that it was okay with them for their children to be entertained by a stripper?

Mine did. Ah the good old days. *fondly remembers 1990*

We painted (badly) the nude human form in art class in my high school. It was one of the best attended classes in the school.

I don't know the child in question, so how can I answer that?

I said she should be charged, yes, because what she did is illegal. Simple. Can you grasp that?

I'm just pulling your legs LG, preferrably apart ;)

It's certainly tacky, but hardly criminal. I'd like to know how it might add to the delinquincy of a minor? What, might cause him to masturbate?

If only I hadn't seen that Playboy in Bob Cornish's locker in 9th grade, and started on this road to perdition, who knows? I might have grown up to be Trent Lott.

no, i don't accept that. there are lots of BAD laws. laws are meant to protect us from harm. they aren't meant to harass people who do no harm. and a sixteen year old is NOT a child, tho this culture strives to pretend they are, they are not.

I don't care if you accept it or not. That's your opinion and I have mine.

At 16, he can't drink/vote/legally buy/rent porn. That's the law, like it or not.

The sad thing is the legal position that equates nudity with obscenity.
