Petition To Incease The Maximun Upload Size From 100 KB to 175 KB

I just went to post a pic series and LIT said:
File Too Large. Limit for this filetype is 100.0 KB. Your file is 305.5 KB.
oh so soon I forget.

These days, most digital cameras take pictures that are well over 100 KB. Even my crappy webcam snaps an average of 145 KB per pic. And not only do I not have the time to resize them in Photoshop, but I don't even HAVE Photoshop on this computer. :nana:

So I can upload them to my Thyrium gallery, like I've been doing- but they won't let me hotlink to LIT. My other option is to upload it to Photobucket and risk getting my account banned because those guys don't liek nudity.

Not only is it just one big hastle, but there's really not much I can show with 100 KB pic.

Vote Now. :rose:

Yeah 100k is pretty small, but I guess a 100k limit ensures a dialup-friendly website. There's a program called ACDSee that I use to optimize my photos. Retains a lot of quality but cuts the filesize down significantly. There are numerous other apps that do the same thing. Might wanna check them out.

I know, I know, I'm a genius.

Amen.

... WHAT? Are You On Crack?!? :nana:
Who in the world has a camera that takes 100 KB pics?

n00bs...

WAKE UP MCFLY, THIS ISN'T ABOUT YOU!
(1 ) (2) (3) (4) (5) (6) (7) (8) (9)

Lol at that last one! How many people do you know that will reverse their dimentions just so they can upload a pic? I don't know anyone.

You want to make it easy for first time pic posters or they just wont post. Hell, they're afraid to post in the first place. This is a perfect excuse for them not to post.

LIT probably loses at least 50 PICTURES daily due to this UNCONVENIENCE.

Okay, well, I'm on strike.

No more pictures from me until LIT increases the Max. upload size.

Try going here Brinnie Graphics Workshop Pro. It's cheap and a great program; they've got other stuff there, too.

It wouldn't let me either, I tried. .

:rose: for you

There are many, many pieces of software out there that will resize images for you, and a ton of them are freeware. I use photoshop for my resizing, but that's only because I'm a graphic designer and so I use it for everything - ACDSee will resize for you, as will Irfanview and a dozen other nifty little freeware programs. Try tucows.com for some others.

There is ZERO reason to have pictures on the web over 100k in size. Any jpg over 100K in size is going to be too big to easily display on a 1024x768 monitor anyway, and guess what, there's still a lot of people out there who browse the web at 800x600.

At 72 dots per inch (web resolution), 1024x768 pixels is approximately 14 inches by 10 inches. That's a pretty big picture to be displaying, in my opinion, and if your pictures are small in dimensions, but the filesize is big, then that extra data is in picture resolution, and guess what - You're going to lose it when you upload them to the web anyway, since web browsers can only display 72dpi. I work in a visual industry, and the products that my company produces come out at 600 or 700 dpi. My boss has a constant ulcer from the fact that the web cannot display samples of our work at a good enough quality to do it justice.

That's the way life on the web is.

So y'know, that 3 thousand dollar 6 megapixel digital camera that you bought that will take jpgs at 1600x1200 and 300 dpi is about as much use as a 50 dollar cheapo digital when it comes to displaying pictures on the web.

You want to get good digital images out of your camera - Take the pictures to a printshop and print 'em out. That's about the only way you'll get better than 72dpi.

Because you sure won't get it on the web.

File compression these days means that you should be able to get any decent sized (640x480) image under 100k, whether you use gif, jpg or png... And it's a waste of time uploading them anyway, since most people's web browsers are going to resize them to fit the available window space and god knows, I don't run my browser (or any application) full screen.

Keeping pictures under 100K and a decent viewable resolution is not difficult. When I had a thread in AmPics, I did it.

Sorry Brinnie, but I don't agree with you on this. I say keep pictures small enough so people don't have to scroll sizeways and up and down to see the entire thing.

raphy, you're an idiot for being so smart you can't see the big picture.

You know nothing about running a community.

Just because I disagree with you doesn't make me an idiot. I happen to disagree with you on this - And I think I put forward some pretty valid points. As it happens, at home, I have one of those monitors that can't view large pictures easily. Sure, at work, I use a 19-inch monitor that runs at 1600x1200, but I don't browse lit from work.

I'm comforted to know that your ideas would exclude me from viewing many of the lovely ladies of literotica, including yourself.

If you posted large (dimensions-wise) pictures, I wouldn't be able to look at them, at least not without excessive scrolling.

I'm just putting forward an alternative point of view, that's all. No need to start name-calling because of it.

I guess the reason I posted to this thread was because of this quote that you said:

but there really isn't much I can show with 100 KB pic.

I don't think I've ever found a single one of your pictures lacking, and they're under 100kb.

(I use yours as an example because you claimed that you couldn't show much with a 100Kb pic, and I think that's simply not true)

Oh, shut the fuck up already.
I'm done answering to your ignorance. You bear no proof and you oppose an entire community.

From herein forth, you can answer to the poll results.

i agree with you Brinnie, voting for 250+

you are quite yummy :D.

I resize my pics to 600 x 450 and make them jpegs. That usually brings them down to about 60 kb and those are pretty good size pics (especially compared to most pics I see, which are a little bigger than avatar size). I have no problem with it personally. *shrugs*

it's not about you, College_geek... It's about people liek THIS: (1) (2) (3) (4) (5) (6)

And for every 1 person that inquires, there's 50 more that just left.
But fuck em. They're just n00bs. They gotta work to post pics here or they can go somewhere else, right? Right. :nana:

lost

I have several photo enhancement programs and each one is a pain to use (just not the type of pain I'm into). With half of them I have tried to resize pics and they just keep displaying them in their original size. I have also had people tell me that gif is larger (K wise) then jpg and I have converted some pics from gif to jpg to find that they are larger. I thnk it is time for a change.

Y'know, this is just funny.

The sheer blind arrogance, closed minded-ness, argumentative tone and total lack of respect for anyone's opinion other than your own just makes me shake my head.

Y'know Brinnie, true beauty comes from the inside, and you say some pretty ugly things.

1) No, it's not about people like that. Not for you, at least. You can come out from hiding behind this 'I'm just here to help the little people' crap. You're in this simply because you're too damn lazy to resize your own photos. You admitted as much in the very first post. It's simply another case of "this isn't the way Brinnie wants it so I'm going to bitch and whine and complain."

2) And you're telling me *I* have no proof. I think the proof of my statements is in the dozens and dozens of people who post here. Where are your 50 who refuse to learn how to resize a picture (it ain't rocket science, after all) and just leave?

3) Work to post pics? Don't make me laugh. Yeah, it takes all of 2 minutes to load a pic into Irfanview, click resize and save. That's so much work. I feel soooo sorry for your poor little fingers at having to click that many buttons.

Lit is the way it is. You don't like it. Go post somewhere else.

By the way, you do realize that most of the people who posted on your poll post simply because you have a cute ass and show flesh, right?

The people have spoken, ralphy, so why don't you argue with them?

I'll tell you why. Because you made it clear your intentions in arguing are just for arguments sake... Like the 1,000's of fallen postwhores before you, you wanted to roll punches with Brinnie. Well, not just plain stupid when there's a REAL demand amongst the community that needs to be met...

So I pissed in your Cheerios... Waaaah. :(
