This is being discussed in the West Yorkshire gathering thread, so I thought I'd start up a new one to bring more attention to it.

I'd love to arrange a gathering to happen in the South of England somewhere (exact location to be discussed and decided - but I think somewhere in the middle-ish would be good. Dorset? LOL!)

Black Tulip mentioned that the first week in May might be good for her to take a trip over from Holland. Sounds like a good plan to me!

What does everyone else think?

I'll keep up with the thread Lou but getting down south for me will be pretty difficult :) You never know though..If I work on persuading the hubby now....I might be good to go for May! ;)
 
Dorset and the surrounding area - The New Forest, Purbecks, pituresque villages, beautiful beaches and so on, really is lovely at that time of year. ;)

And the night life in my town rocks. :D

Whoop! Well, keep an eye and let me know. I think May is a good option for another reason: it gives us all plenty of time to arrange things and get things sorted.
 
Dorset is a great county. Lots of lovely 'humps' to explore, coves beckoning; and May might mean sunshine. I appoint myself Annointer in Chief for suntan lotion.

I had a quick look at my calendar. The first week of May includes Ascension (?) day.

Is that a family day for you guys or could we make that weekend our goal?

The Monday (the 2nd, I believe) is May Day Bank Holiday here, which usually means everywhere is very busy.

I was actually thinking that meeting up midweek would be better than the weekend. Not only is everywhere less busy, but from a personal point of view, I'd be able to get away much easier.

Of course, this all depends on when is best for everyone else.

Neon, I would love it if you could make it, and yep, I'd appreciate the suntan lotion. ;)

Seriously, May is too far away for me to confirm yay or nay. But if I can, I will. Have some serious RL stuff to deal with this year including writing a piece for a literary festival in Poland, I will be going to Poland in late May so it might not be possible to attend. Having been to Yorkshire, I can thoroughly recommend a get together, it will both surprise and delight.
 
Best of luck everyone in your efforts to get a Southern gathering. I'd endorse Neonlyte's comment. Yorkshire was a great day out for me, despite driving twisty Dales roads in the dark on my way home!

BT, I volunteer to be your chauffeusse and collect you from Southampton airport, if that's the way you'll come. Amsterdam/Southampton is a daily route (I promise to be on time and waiting ;) )

If the gathering in Yorkshire is anything to go by, it will be a blast.

I vote for the New Forest. Wonderful place, great for walking, brilliant pubs all over.
 
So who else can we coerce..........The Earl, Pops, Scheherezade, maybe Snoopy would like to pop over, and Liar....maybe even Svenska.......?????......maybe even Lauren ........:D
 
If I'm still earning my keep in teaching by that time, I will have my .... Tulip holiday! Honest, that's what it is called. The whole first week of May schools are closed, so whatever suits the rest.

I'll start putting money aside so I can buy a ticket. LOL

Not sure I'll be flying from Amsterdam, Mat. Could be using a cityhopper from the airport near my home. Saves me a train ride of about 2,5 hours.

You know, I think I actually might be able to join in this time. A weekend in may sounds like a plan, and with my new schedule, it seems I can work whenever I damn well please.

It's more of a monetary issue. If I have the wallet for it come May, count me in.
 
When is this, now? I've heard good things about the Yorkshire get together. I might be tempted to come to this one - even if it means going AWOL from work for a bit ;)

BT, if you land in Cardiff in the beautiful land of song, I'll be more than happy to pick you up :D

I was thinking of a meeting midweek, though. Dunno how easy or difficult that is for others? However, there's no reason why you, and even BT, can't come over for a few days and meet with some of us at the weekend, too.

I would offer to put some up at my house, but I don't have a spare bedroom. :eek:

Definitely.
I'd be more than happy to offer accommodation to one visitor. Don't have room for more than that. Maybe 2 under certain circumstances......;)
