Spin's parody thread has caused me to have a WTF moment. So I am putting the question officially out.

Who do we have on the boards who is an amateur radio operator? If in the US, vote to show your zone. No, you don't have to ID. (You don't see me using my call here)

If you have EchoLink, maybe we can do a contact. Via Hamstick dipole, I'm HF capablity on 10, 12, 15, 17, 20, 40, & 80 meters. If you are in the Orlando area, I am usually monitoring 146.64MHz (UCF 2m repeater) & 146.73MHz (OC ARES/RACES 2m repeater).

If you are looking for information as to what Amateur Radio is, feel free to post questions, smartass remarks, etc.

Here are a few web sources for info:

At one time I was going to get my HAM license but then I got into the pro side of it instead. I got my general license, but I never really had a job that required it, although I did work with 1KW transcievers for several years. Great big huge LP antennas. Mostly in the 30-70 mHz range.

You would probably never guess what the mode was or the medium we used. *evil grin* I'll give you a clue though; it was a WAN with a range of 1000 miles between nodes.

The internet is what most people are interested in now.

Ok, no call sign. Have been licensed for four years now...

Anyone think they will be able to participate in Field Day? Lady C & I will be doing radio time with the local ARES/RACES group.

After this weekend, we will have more details of the call we will be using and bands for which we have working equipment.

I'm not allowed to go near SW radio.... not anymore.

Fuckin' FCC, cocksuckers...

That sucks most mightily.

They took away my license because I was overpowering two of the three radio stations in my locality.

Stupid me got caught.

Can't say I agree with maxing power output, but it must have been some loud complaints to get the FCC to go straight to the jugular and revoke your license.

I know a couple people who will crank the amplifier so they can talk over stations to make a contact they want. The most I've seen them get is the customary warning letter to tone it down.

Well, when you're young and cocky, a letter isn't much strength.

I was pushing almost 75,000 watts. My setup was nearly flawless, except for a recent storm that passed through and knocked an I-beam slightly off kilter. Pointed west, sitting on the east side of the river.

My final mistake? "Fuck, I hate country, what is this shit?"

FCC arrived two days later.

Yeah, Uncle Charlie takes the forbidden word list fairly seriously, even before Janet desided to show the world her nipple shield.

Hopefully at some point they will let you retest.

Today was a long day. Getting the improvments to the EOC for Hurricane Season & Field day. Still probably take another Saturday to finish up. OC ARES hopes to have three full-time stations running plus a GOTA station for Field Day. We still have 2 of the antennas to get in place as well as one pushup pole.

Oh the tropospheric ducting is having fun in Florida. I'm currently hearing a 442MHz repeater out of Miami. [/url]

If they have Echo-link on that repeater, you can login and hear yourself on the computer.

DUCTING ROCKS!

Yes, we will be participating in Field Day activities....using call sign W4E..running calls 5 F...Last year we ran 3F and finished third in points in the country. Our ARES group will be operating from the EOC (actually from a field behind the EOC) ..
