Freedom of Speech on the Board. It goes both ways people.

Well this is gonna be a stretch for me, I'm actualy going to try and start a serious thread. <gasp> Sad but indeed, it is very true. I have to state my opinion on something I've noticed in the recent "pointless threads vs. serious threads" debate that's been going on here.

For awhile now, many have spoken up and stated their dislike about the continuing fad of starting these pointless threads that have no real meaning other then to joke around with your buddys about whatever. They have made the clear points that such things can, and at the rate they are going lately, should be confined more to email and chat conversations. Now most that have made these points have tried to be very respectful in their posts to those that start the pointless threads. Many of them try to talk about it and let it be known how it affects them in a calm, and polite way.

Those who have not been handling it in that way, well that's their way of dealing with this situation. Can't say I agree with it at all though. But back to what I was getting at in the very first place.

These people who have expressed their dislike have done so, only to then have those posters they are talking about yell back about Freedom of Speech and how they are allowed to talk about what they want because it's a porn site. How ironic, that they talk about freedom of speech to protect those pointless threads that they love. Yet, when others use that same freedom of speech to complain about the threads, suddenly that freedom of speech doesn't seem to matter anymore to them.

The ball bounces both ways here people. Yes, those who start them have the right to make all the pointless threads that they want. This is indeed very true. But then you also need to understand that people have the right to complain and 'bitch' about them as much as they want also. It's a cycle that should be better respected by both sides during these debates.

That is just my two cents. I now return you to my usual pointless posts. :)

The only way to win...

...is not to play.

I find it saner to just ignore threads I'm not interested in so I don't usually make it far enough to even decide if the thread is "pointless" or not.

It took me years to learn to ignore people who annoy me be they marching Klan members or just ignorant bumpkins.

Reminds of the adage to not bother teaching a pig to sing. It wastes your time and it annoys the pig.

I've said it before and I'll say it again ....

You can please some of the people some of the time, but, not all of the people all of the time.

I hear you Renegade, and I agree, but this shit happens all the time here, and when these people do finally calm down, we get a new member that comes along and starts the ball rolling again.

I've learnt to ignore certain people, I'm doing alright so far, and spending less time here, and on the computer. My son spends more time with his Mum and we are all happy.

Not saying this will work for everyone, but, I know I'm happier doing this.

Take Care now Renegade :)

Point taken.

I was perhaps too vehement in my argument yesterday. My only defense (and not a good one, I might add!) is that I was angry that while others were trying to make their point they hurt feelings. And no one seemed to notice! Whether this was intentional or not is irrelevant, because the outcome remains the same. I'm just tired of seeing people I'm genuinely fond of feel like their contributions are worthless. And after it happened to two different friends in as many days, I blew up. I will do a better job of containing my outbursts in the future.

I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. You're human, just like the rest of us, and allowed an outburst now and then. Especially if the motivation is saving the feelings of someone else.

Yes that is very understandable, and commendable, that you would defend the posters that you care about. And I can relate to blowing things out of proportion in the heat of the moment myself. Done that, and regret it, many times in the past myself to be honest. But like Cheyenne said, you were doing that for a good reason. :)

Well it looks like I've gotten my point across about this. I know it will continue to happen in the future, but atleast I got to say my piece on the whole thing. Let me also say, that although I don't realy mind silly threads myself, they do get rather boring after you see them popping up so often.

Again, just my two cents(anybody got some change? lol).

Much like the stories, I click on what I want to see. If I choose trash or idiocy, then quickly I click away. Can't seem to get pissed over that which is free.

Wonder what would happen if this was a pay site? Would people pay to come here and complain about the board or just simply leave? I myself would probably stay since I'm mostly here for the Role Playing and usualy just visit the general board when there isn't much to do over there. But then that's just me. :D

I defend everyone's right to post whatever. If you want to post a semicolon, knock yourself out, if you want to post a diatribe about some political party, go for it. Just because I defend it, however, doesn't mean I read it.

Silly threads are usually a waste of my time, fine, I move on. But lately, all the other threads are "Waaaa, these people are ruining my board" threads, flaming, or hijack-fests just to show we can. <Yawn> Yesterday, the only thing I found worth posting to was Thumper's birthday thread.

My point? Everyone's screaming and bitching is getting boring and frankly I has found this BB is pretty easy to live without. I do find it kind of funny that "bad" behaviour is only bad when it's the other group doing it.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have things to do.

RE: Freedom, general human rights and YOUR view point.

The other day, Christmas to make it a bit ironic - one of my borother's-in-law says to me - in a conversation about such........

"Those people don't even know anything about their human rights or freedom, they need to be governed by rules they can't appreciate the concept."

Now this statement could pertain to anyone, anybody - babies, kids of all ages, uneducated adults or anyone ignorant of such concepts as human freedoms.

My retort was, "And that's exactly why we have to protect them, and to teach them."

Let me tell you, he was taken aback a bit. I found his statement extemly predjudice and elitist. Afterall, he and those like him, would inflict their rules/laws, whatever - on the ignorant because they know no better. He would "take care to them" you see.

All I can say is, God Damn, God Damn, God Damn!!!! Who is actually ignorant here?

Yeah me? I'm predjudice! Against bigoted fucks like him. Sometimes a healthy dose of intelect ruins an otherwise good human mind - I mean, look at Hitler. He was goind to take care of lots of ignorant people.

Your thoughts welcome.

Sorry, even though......

y last is related to this thread - I meant to clean it up and post as a new - but as usual I fucked up. And I happen to think it's pretty good. Somehow I can't cut and paste from my lap-top. So if any of you want to cut and paste my last as a new thread please do. I don't have the patience to re-type it.

I don't want them to quit posting. I just wish a certain fellow board member who has been absent no doubt due to real life, would maybe cut the silly thread posting in half. Maybe instead of starting a new one every time, open an old one and roll the joke, make the threads a little longer. Threads move laterally as well as vertically off the page. We don't need new threads every 20 seconds for the board to have movement.

Of course, my opinion is wrong because it requests people to restrain themselves and they think they shouldn't have to consider others because they please themselves and one or two others while they are at it.

Let me make it clear that I am not referring to R Nitelight.

Anyway, thank you Renegade. No wonder you have women chasing you from hell to breakfast.

More votes for the silly / sensible board...

Amen / Awomen too.

EZ

Kitten Eyes, yes the board has become more serious and less comical lately. Wether this is good or bad depends on each persons perception of it. But I must say that with the "silly threads vs serious threads" debate, I'm more interested in the general board now then I've been for awhile. I do however agree with you about all the threads complaining about the silly threads. There are so many that it's starting to become kinda boring itself as of late. But hey, if things get too boring over here, we can always start an orgy thread in the Role Plays. lol :D

Killer Muffin, I think I know who you're talking about, and I have to agree. Even though I like the guy myself, he can get under my skin when he starts so many threads. And I thought the reason women were chasing me was for my Latino Heat? ;)

Thanks to everyone else that responded. It's nice to see that others share points that I tried to make in this thread. :)
