Anyone have any suggestions on how to remove that rubber smell that toys have.
The GF likes the toys, hates the smell.

We were thinking of soaking the toy in water for a day or so but I have a sinking feeling that won't work.

Is there a secret method for de-rubberfying toys?

I suspect the problem will require time for the "volitile esthers" to disapate.

Soaking in water might help, but washing the toys with a mild detergent will probably do more than a simple soaking in plain water.

A couple of passes through the dishwasher gets rid of the rubbery smell in new Rubbermaid (tm) lids, so that might work for your toys as well.

(In part, it is going to depend on the formulation of the rubber the toys are made of -- some rubbers take longer to lose their smell than others, and some never lose it completely.)

I've had my toy for a while, but the smell never gets any better. Someone asked this question on the "Sunday Night Sex Show" the other week, and good ol' Sue said that there's no way to get rid of the smell. She suggested using flavored condoms if you want to put a rubber toy in your mouth.

I_Edwards: It's not thru lack of trying :)

Weird Harold: Good advice as always. I tried it and no luck. Still rubbery but worth the try.

dollface007: Sue's never lead me astray. I guess my gf will just have to bite the rubber :) I guess she'll just have to covert to that soft gel-like rubber.

Thanks for the info folks. I guess it's down to saran wrap or nose plugs.

Don't purchase cheap(er) toys. They cut the rubber with plasticine and that causes the strong scent. Granted, any of the toys will have a smell (unless made with silicone), but the ones that are cheaper and cut with plasticine makes the smell intense. :) The plasticine can also give your toy a sheen/oily feeling.

If you don't want to part with the toy (I've had to do this a few times), utilize a flavored condom or a sealer that is non-toxic.

I have found the smell fades somewhat after a period of time... but never goes away totally... silicone is better and thinking about the scented ones...

What flavor do you think would be good... ?
