the weeds knee high
soon tickling a thigh
rain made the ground soppy
soaked up by the budding poppy

a promise of big red petals
spread among masses of dead nettles
the blue cornflowers like dots
in the untouched garden's spots

the long blades of grass, for certain
next week a modesty curtain
when we go skinny dipping
the waves of the stems ripping

on the checkered blanket
I will feast the served banquet
of the picked up vegan's flower
tasting musky, sweet and sour

Nymphaea

attachment.php

Not a Monet what the pencils had brought
in a midwinter night but a dream of a nymph
born from last season's love

The floor of the frosty ballroom reflecting
the cool moon light in the long darkness
would soon be replaced by a wet universe
full of budding planets

Miniature nations that would open
their borders to invite the double
paired winged commuters
bringing newfound love from the
beauties afloat within eyeshot
anchored in the muddy ground

Of Mature Roses and Maiden Poppies

poured her drink, leaving the court of the Queen
a beauty, yes, but offending underneath her crown
ever demanding, overindulging, waiting for attention
not amused, but crestfallen, when the peasant fails
to bring her potions or shorten strands in spring

turning, dismissed, eyes wander to distant fields
where noble men don‘t seek their prize
to find working-class beauties
swaying in the gusts of their existence
awake from their long winter dreams, perking up

their thin rags dance in the drafts of May
while her highness is choky garbed in baroque
layer upon layer hiding her delicacy, no louse to pass
needless of Royal Scent, the maidens go without
their lipstick not as shy as Her Majesty’s

as her grandeur declines the unclothed hand
I retreat from the lonesome throne
to pick easygoing nature
some reds to animate my snuggery
live and drink from my next days’ attention

A Rose called hope,
hope that fills my nose,
nose sunken deep inside
where her secrets hide
bringer of new hope
nosy pollinator

that picture is absolutely stunning!

did you capture it yourself?

Yes, I did, unfortunately my mobile's camera isn't the best, more the contrary. So it didn't capture the full beauty of it. Here's a picture of her mature sister.

It's nuances of orange, pink, yellow and more make it a magnificent flower - in my eyes. That rose comes with a coy, but still present scent.

This 'Rose der Hoffnung' comes from a German grower, Kordes. They do have a online shop, even in English...

In case you do like roses and, at a time, happen to be in Germany, you might want to pay a visit to the "Europa-Rosarium", a botanical garden with a large collection (self-claimed 'world's biggest') of more than 8.000 different types.

I’ve never had much of an affinity for plants, I’m normally too busy to notice, which from the look of your photos I’m missing out.

I doubt I’ll ever make it to Germany but I will definitely take your suggestion to heart, especially if the majority of it or even just some of it is as gorgeous as your photos

hours past dawn and already gone 80
humidity reading 70 on the dial

a perambulation of crows,
sedate and strung out,
cross the shiny drive—
take their time
to look at points of interest,
the younger ones going on ahead

an insouciant rabbit,
his perusal of dandelions disturbed,
leaves the greener pools of shade—
lopes in energy-saving mode
past the older birds,
crosses back across sweating tar
to disappear at fence-line
mid grasses left uncropped by lazy cows
intent on steeping in the pond

I loved your languid description, especially apt was seeping cows,, was I suspect the water will be tea coloured after they head back to the barn.

I could help out for a piece of the scene:

Three furry ladies eat,
hairy from ear to toe,
carrots like made of meat,
when they use teeth, you know,
and not shy about beet,
once in, never let go

Interesting

Here’s my take on the pic

She lies within a nest of
nettles, lashing out at
any who come close
because it’s easier to protect yourself
your true centre
amidst a wrath of pain and discernment directed out
to hide yourself away with a slap and sting

because the superficial beauty we covet
has no true reflection
on that which we hide from the world
a gorgeous array of petals
that want to sway beneath the beaming sun
and dance naked in the rain

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, todski, much truth and wisdom in your words.

While everybody is complaining about masks, we wore some already before...

Come close

open petals
wet inside
look inviting
come closer
to find the spot
come and stay
let me settle
come get lost
bottomless core
come to end
we will wither
together

poor year for fruit trees here
but, man, the squash-monsters
are taking over the gardens

thick snake-stems rampage
cross surprised, clovered aisles
unused to such annexing

tumescent zukes jut proudly
even as outsized yellow petals, dew-damp,
welcome the fumble of experienced bees

pattypan city, green and humid,
multi-storied place to park high-flyin' frilled saucers,
weight restrictions apply: heaviest @ ground-level only

gnarley cukes lurk in unexpected niches
to escape detection, point soilwards
like older versions of their zucchini cousins

lofty tomatillos strung with paper lanterns
hide secret swellings, rise above it all
ignore the rampant bawdy growth below

cherry toms--baubled to the nth
dressed all in shades of chlorophyll
wait for someone to flip the switch

but, best of all, softball-sized cants
their sprawling metropolis abuzz with gossip
alight with daintier blooms and fuzzy babies
protected by retractable green awnings

Thank you so much, butters, for this most delicious fruit and vegetable salad. I'm currently out of lemons, so the smile has to stay on, all night long, and hope to dream of your garden paradise...

You're making me miss my garden this year! All the squash monsters, and the toms, and the tomatillos. Really enjoyed this little visit to what sounds like your farm. :)

Sitting there
hidden pair
of arms
(or legs?)
with charms
(seeking sex!)
the stripes
for show
those types!
you know?
wasp dress
bear hip
eyes slip
drunk mess
bee lady
better dressed
not impressed
by shady
eight legs
six to flex
and spread
and hold
two to please
and tease
and wet
but yet
his bed
stays cold

Spiders and wasps such an interesting combination. When was 12 and spent the summer at my Grandparents farm in Kansas, I opened several mud dauber cells and was surprised to find them filled with paralyzed slack widow spiders - prey for the larval wasp to feed on while developing.

Otherwise I never saw a black widow on the farm.

typos are funny... that inspires great imagery, sort of 18th-19th century brit woodcuts or newspaper adverts or a general description for the less-tightly buttoned bodiced ladies in mourning

''don't be a slack widow, keep your doorstep freshly scrubbed with Drudgesuds, daily!''
