Remember that most of these girls were regular hometown girls both before and after their appearances. They dated and married regular Joe Schmoes and lived in small town America. While a few went on to be celebrities in one form or another, many of them never had any other public life outside a of few pageants.
Some made news, some very tragically. A few still do promotional appearances. Most were never heard from again.
It's not entirely unreasonable for someone here to have known one of them.
