The 2020 Geek Pride Story Event: Official Support Page

I'm posting this thread to officially kick off the "2020 Literotica Geek Pride Story Event”. Laurel will be creating the Event Page shortly - and submissions can be sent in between May 18th and May 24th, with a Monday May 25th Go Live Date. That's SIXTEEN WHOLE WEEKS AWAY. Plenty of time!

This thread is to SUPPORT and ENCOURAGE authors to enter stories in the 2020 Literotica Geek Pride Story Event. If you have questions, post them here and someone will answer. It might be me, it might be someone else here but don't be shy. Ask.

Here on Literotica, in recognition of Geek Pride Day, one of our fellow writers, PuckIt, organized the inaugural Literotica Geek Pride Day Story Event on May 25th, 2018. This was such a popular event with writers and readers last year that we ran it again in 2019, and we’re enthusiastically running it again for 2020!

... and as PuckIt isn't available, Chloe's volunteered to kick the Geek Day Event off on his behalf and at least try and answer any questions. (Although I may plead for help if the answers to the questions are beyond me).

The 25th of May was first organized as Geek Pride Day in 2006 by the Spanish blogger Germán Martínez (known online as Señor Buebo). Since then, Geek Pride Day has slowly gained international recognition (in certain Geek circles) and we on Literotica want to do our bit to celebrate Geek Pride.

So let your freak flag fly! Write a story for Literotica’s 2020 Geek Pride Day Story Event.

So let the Force guide your fingers. Start writing! This isn’t a “by invitation only” event. This isn’t a competition. There’s no placing. There’s no prizes. This is for the sheer joy of writing alongside a bunch of other Literotica writers. This is for anyone on Literotica who would like to try it out. You don't have to have written anything before to write for this event. First time writers and veteran Literoticans alike are all invited and encouraged to participate.

The Rules are actually really simple
1. Have an awesome idea with some kind of geeky theme. Sci-Fi or Fantasy is the most likely category, but if you want to get geeky in any other category, you go for it!
3. Any geeky subject, any category, any length you like. But please, only stand-alone stories (if you want to clarify that, just ask right here in this Official Support Thread).
4. Author must copy and paste the phrase "2020 Literotica Geek Pride Story Event " in the "Notes" field of the submission. We recommend that you COPY & PASTE it into the NOTES field to avoid typos.
6. Please use “Geek Pride” as a story tag.
7. All entries to be submitted by 11:59pm, May 24th - with a Go Live Date of Monday May 25th. You can submit any time between May 18th and May 24th. All stories will be posted on Monday May 25th.

That’s it.

So what are you waiting for? Start writing?

Lastly, a special thank-you to PuckIt for originating this very fun story event.

I'm about 7000 words in to the second part of my angel and astronaut story, but it's likely to go stupid long before it's done. So it might be an entry, might not. I'm crap at writing to deadlines and just ignore that "pressure" nowadays.

Well, I have my half done one from last year. Looking forward to finishing it.

Okay, updated the first post with all the details. The first half of the year's calendar is sure filling up.

I've got one that might fit this. I need to reread it to see what it's about.

I traditionally do an SF story for this, but I've been mulling that standard trope where a nerdy employee gets seduced by the boss.

I'll need to give it some thought.

I think I'm in. I have a story I planned to submit for the event last year I didn't finish. It's not Sci Fi, strictly speaking, but it is geeky -- Star Trek cosplay is the main theme.

If drawing is geeky enough (it was in my time in school), then I believe I have a new little something to write and submit. An idea that came thanks to Lemonletters.

Wow, if this keeps up, we are going to have to rename the site Contestotica.

James

PS> If anybody is motivated enough to build a site, that name (Contestotica) is available for a nominal fee.

Any particular reason there are no Rules 2 or 5? Just wondered if it's a geek thing or something of which I wasn't aware.

Blushes and hides face in hands. Bad editing by moi. I did the same thing last year. I started with Puckit’s rules and deleted a couple but forgot to adjust the numbering. Duh!

I'm in. OF COURSE. Hopefully this year will go more smoothly.

Looking forward to it!

I'm torn over what to write about for this one. Something LitRPG-ish, my take on some established geeky genre like I did before with Sentai? Maybe something to do with videogames, be it something sexy happening *in* a game, or a game bringing people together romantically?

Hrm. One idea that's been kicking around in the back of my head was a Space Opera setting -- spaceships, FTL-travel, photon torpedoes, all that sort of thing... but it's a fantasy world blended with Sci-Fi. The spaceships don't fire lasers, they're equipped with Magic Missile arrays. Photon torpedoes become fireball cannons. Dwarven diamond-ram gunships dueling with a Lich-King's flying galleon of bone and enchanted steel. Wizards, Priests, and Psions so powerful that they can fly through space unaided, taking on entire battlefleets single-handedly... and WIN.

Every sci-fi setting has one alien race that scares the living piss out of all the others. Berzerkers. The Borg. Daleks. But in this galaxy, the ones you pray to your gods you never meet on a cold and lonely shipping route... are the GNOMES. Because to them, the world is just a dream, and illusion -- and they have so many horrifying ways of twisting reality until your sensors and your eyes simply don't know what's real anymore -- and those little bastards WILL NOT STOP. Because they're on a holy mission to wake the universe up from its slumber... and end this dream that we all call "reality and existence".

Let's call this reality... MITHRIL SPACE. That's a good starting point, I think.

Oh yeah, I need to figure out what sort of fucking people get up to in this crazy space-faring setting, gotta remember where I'm writing this, after all. ;)

ARTHUR:
Yes! The Holy Hand Grenade! Consult the Book of Armaments!

BROTHER MAYNARD:
Armaments, chapter two, verses nine to twenty-one

SECOND BROTHER:
And Saint Attila raised the hand grenade up on high, saying, "O Lord, bless this Thy hand grenade that, with it, Thou mayest blow Thine enemies to tiny bits in Thy mercy."

SECOND BROTHER:
And the Lord spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then, shalt thou count to three. No more. No less. Three shalt be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, nor either count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then, lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it."

MAYNARD:
Amen

KNIGHTS:
Amen

ARTHUR:
Right!
One!... Two!... Five!

GALAHAD:
Three, sir!

ARTHUR:
Three!
(angels sing)
(boom)

Ooh, this could be fun!

I have a story I was trying to finish for Valentine's Day but this might be a better fit. The primary focus is on a somewhat (suddenly more?) geeky divorcé and his quest for a new love. He's unknowingly assisted in this by an unusual outside party, but when love's arrows get deflected, things don't go quite as planned for either of them.

MisterWildCard: If you want your mind truly blown, check out an old D&D setting called "Spelljammer" It was an attempt by then-publisher TSR to connect all their different campaign settings into one multiverse - with elven butterfly ships, hollow conch shells full of beholders, tentacled Mind Flayer ships and stripmined asteroids-turned-spaceships powered by magic-item-eating furnaces. Because Dwarves are stupid :) The most legendary ship was the Spelljammer itself, a huge - sentient - manta-ray shaped spacecraft with a whole city on it's back, complete with dungeons to crawl through, faction warfare on the surface and the whole universe trying to get their paws on it. The ship designs were fantastic (look for "battle dolphin" and come back) and it was so much fun to play in - especially if you liked furries and GIANT SPACE HAMSTERS!

My tentative plan for this year's GPD is revisiting a story idea which has been kicking around in my head for a few years now - a cyberpunk take on the "illegal deathmatch game show". I have half the thing plotted out, including the main character - a cybered-up pro wrestler who just lost his final match, putting over an up and coming new star in an inter-gender match. Her reward... is not what he expected. It will probably tie back into my "Ghost in the Machine" universe, but it's too early to tell just yet.

Now me, I’m doing a Heinleinesque girl meets alien exchange students at High School and, well, tentacles..... it’s amazing where they can go and what an alien can do with them, in the interests of education and the expansion of inter-species understanding.....

Did someone say tentacles?

Ohhhhhh yeah. Amazing what those suckers can do to a girl’s nipples, and we’re talking multiple penetration simultaneously with a distributed nervous system and multiple interacting brains. That and an alien centaur whose hung like a horse. And that’s not counting the human guys.... xenobiology class can be fascinating for a teenage Picard High student....

And I thought my "Fading Stars" cast was interesting. Screw me. :)

Don’t say that when a heptapod is listening. They find it hard to distinguish between human males and females. An orifice is an orifice when you got tentacles. I’m kinda wondering how the story would work told from the point of view of a six-brained heptapod. Multiple parallel consciousnesses actively having sex with an alien lifeform.
