Okay, this suggestion may not be in the right area, and may result in me getting voted off the island, but is it possible for members to have a list of their favourite stories by other authors? Corny, I know, sort of like Amazon.

Or does this already exist, and as a newbie have yet to discover it? If not, could it be on our members page, and yes, limited to 10 or 20 if needed. Aussie Chick

Hi newbie,

I already have a list of stories I like on my memberpage.

Then I have a Snippettsville link in my sig. I am not a Snipps author, just like 'em too much. :)

We have tried doing this a couple of times before on the board, but usually the thread sink without trace after about a week at the most. Try searching for 'Author's Choice'

I don't know how to vote.....None of them really fit me. I don't think it's a bad idea, but I don't know how many authors actually spend much time reading, or could tell you who their favourite authors are. I'm pretty jaded.....you can find most of my favourite authors by scrolling through the names here in the AH.

Good luck. *smiles*

I suggest just noting down names of authors who you find that you like...make your own list...maybe even email it to yourself(i forever do that...email myself that is....sad I know)

Ah ha ha, Lady. I do it because my short-term memory went off after menopause. But as with paper lists I make, the thing is to not lose them, or at least look at them later.

Wishful: imagine if all the authors made fave lists, then you'd have to discern which authors' advice you'd prefer, and so end up with another list!

Welcome and thanks for the interest. Hang about freely (if you dare ;) ).

regards, Perdita

Thank's Perdita

Now I know I am suffering from post menopausal short term memory loss. :D

Being on a list. Is that the same as being in a clique?

Favourite authors on lists. The combinations are staggering. Just read the ones who say they are good, the ones who someone else has said are good and the ones you think are good. Then read the ones that no-one mentions at all and you'll probably find just as many, just as good.

Wish,

Unsolicited: Read Gauchecritic and Wills.

They're both on more than one of my lists  .

Perdita

p.s. we are not a clique  .

I'm not sure this is what you mean, but I just put the page of an author I like in my favorites. Saves a lot of searching and you can spot new stories right away.

Perdita: is that what is happening to me???

Will's don't you dare touch it. It's mine!

Black Tulip,

You are safe, I can't remember what I'm looking for. :D

Love the AV.

Wills, that's a delightful idea. I'm going to buy a spice rack just for my smaller thoughts.

Hi there, Wishful.

My life is full of lists, most of them I keep in my head, usually because I can't be arsed to write them down on paper. And all the pens go missing. They are the staple diet of my kids, you see.

Anyway, I digressed. Every now and again a thread pops up where we state what our favourite stories by other authors are, that usually suffices for me to find the gems among the masses at Lit.

Wishfulthinking

Reading Lou reminded me this is your Newbie thread.

From me (alone), a big welcome. Hope you enjoy your visits. You probably have got the idea by now just from how the regulars have hijacked your thread. You have to chip in from time to time just to keep us on track.

As for favourite authors, you won't go far wrong reading those who post here, many of them also contribute to the poetry thread where I am quietly adding to my linguistic education.

You will find the ones you like, but be warned these threads seriously detract from reading time.

Will's ;)

Writing seriously detracts from reading time ;)

And hi there, wishfulthinking. Here, have a :nana:

Hi Raphy,

I find I write for about half an hour and then come to the posts to let my head lighten up, sometimes here, sometimes the poetry. You are correct, it is the writing that cuts the reading time.

For instant self gratification in the isolation of your home..

Try Dirt Man. His work here at lit, and elsewhere gets right to the meat of it, sometimes even enjoys a little plot, and some background without making the reader go through three pages of discription for every scene in the story. He basically writes; "Shit happens," stories, and here is what they did when it happened. No flowery phrases, especially when gut wrenching filth will do in a pinch. He's at the head of my list to read, and everybody else comes after him. I would always rate him a 5 on the voting meter if I voted for him at all, which I don't as I'd be following the crowd, and I don't do that. So to be honest, I don't vote at all when it comes to Dirt Man stories. Besides they don't have anything higher than 5 for me to vote with.

As Always
I Am the
Dirt Man
