John Roberts Poetry thread part 2

Where Did it Go?

This is a work in progress, hope you don't mind but this seemed like a good place to share it...

Where Did it Go?

Men have asked me...
How could you not know
That you're beautiful?
I don't know.
Somehow, I'm always surprised
When I look in the mirror
And like what I see.

It might have something to do
With growing up being told...
"You'd be pretty... if you lost weight."
Or hearing men say,
"She's pretty, too bad she's fat."
As if the extra padding
On my stomach, hips and thighs
Made me irrelevant, unacceptable
Or even contemptible.

I found myself
When I went off to college
And found people
Who accepted me as I was.
I felt strong and beautiful
For a time
And held my head up with pride.
So, where did it go
In the last ten years?
Somewhere, I lost my steam.

Did I let them take it from me?
When I saw a face fall
Because my body didn't quite
Match my face and my mind?
Or every time I saw a man's eyes say,
"Why are you introducing me to that?"

Or did I give it away?
When I sat home every night saying,
There's nothing out there for me
No one would want me.

And now, how do I get it back?
Can you recover such a thing?
Or is it simply gone and doesn't come back?
Like opportunity rolling down the track?

Where did it go?
And, how do I get it back?

((((((((Magica))))))))  Beautiful work, such feelings are so rough on ones self perception  Smile.....you will get it back, but it will be different and more complete, resonating with your richness and wealth of beauty. It is our thoughts that make us.....the contrast of joy and tragedy make us special to paint a colorful painting on the canvas of the world. Thank you for sharing your work. I do want to see it when you finish.
This is an open thread....laughing...dominated by my own contrasts but I love it when people share and join us here. And you are particularly welcome wherever I roam. :rose: :rose:

Thank you, dear heart. You are so kind. :rose:

Thank you, as well, Gypsy. :rose:

cast to the wind,
it has no destination
ever divided and re-divided
caught in every wind wisp
round and about
lost in myself
Identity scattered
who and what am I?
I see the love
I see the hurt
I see a world of contrasts
bright and beautiful
dark and cold

I am tired of the hurt
heart wracked with pain
no touch, no comfort
I cannot find myself
Was I ever here?
a disheveled broken husk
dried by an arrid wind
cast to a world devoid of love
I need the arms
I need the eyes
to look deep within mine
and softly say...hey...
I know you and love you
I need a refuge
from my own nature
my withering spirit
which cannot see or hope

The remnants of love fade with time
a bond once strong is diminished
tears and fears, cast to the world
and ache becomes unbearable hurt
hope pushed aside leaves the muse cold
heartless is the cost of familiarity
Once a glow in someones eyes
now a pallid spark, unwelcome
a friend leaves the embrace of my heart
reluctantly I let go, but I can see
that I am not important
despite the offering of my love.
my angel has released me.

It is the dark that chills me so.
There is no answer, the silence whithers.
The touch though distant warms my heart
to know her yearning matches mine own.
Gracefully her thoughts kiss my soul
pulling me to her, I have no choice.
A smile, an imagined carress
fiery passion that consumes
and brings us to a gentle embrace.
We are one whether the world
holds us apart or not.
Oh but the lack of her creates a desolution
so complete and consuming.
Bereft I lay missing her
sending love into the night
with the hope that one of my kisses alight
giving her a beacon to my light

Hurtful is her rage,
the anger kills my spirit
the person I love is somewhere
I do not see her, I cannot feel her
at such times she hates me
and I do not know why.
I have done nothing but to love.
bit by bit, piece by piece
she surgically removes evidence of love
leaving herself bereft in the midst of her anger
no one will touch her in her dark
sometimes I reach her with a kiss,
enough to see the lovely one within her pain
I would embrace her with my love
if she would accept it.
but misery is her world, she stubbornly clings to it.

an inquiry into the night,
there is no one there
tears on my face
no one to touch
my hurting spirit
Needs distraction
needs sleep
needs love
needs the grace of a loving dance.

there is no life in me tonight
soul soiled, bereft heart
no one to talk to in the dark
save me from myself
hopes and dreams
are pitiless teases
kisses turned to dirt
laughter someone elses mirth
will I forever be the center of hurt?
afraid of the respite of sleep

There is nothing left,
my heart an empty vessel.
Where is my love?
Where is joy to heal my bitter wounds?
Why must I cry in the long night?

It is not for me the lonely nights
to often only darkness to sight
she is gone, my heart cannot accept it
ever revisited, the joy of the past
a cruel reminder of what has been
and what is not. I cannot regroup,
I cannot heal, my soul a rent gapping black hole
which takes all my light and makes it nought.
I wish for the end, for this way I cannot spend
sorrow has stolen my heart and will not part
I wish there to be a kindred spirit
one who will understand me in the many realities
that I have found. But the emptiness does resound
to show it is only me and the night and no sound.

My anxiety brings me to you
darkness, place of hurt
your gile insinuates you into my life
tainting hope, a font of my tears
sometimes the rope beckons
wishing an end to my endless pain
I want no more of this.
I lived a lie, a violation of self
the gentle quiet one
who is afraid to speak shunted aside
buffeted by the winds of change
quiet cries carried away
to be consumed by the night wind
I speak and no one listens
they cannot hear to know I am there.

I am lost in my fear
poised on the precipice of the mind
once again reality shifts in time
what I have percieved is no more
than unrequited love,
caught in a crevice
never to have been exposed
to the harsh light of truth,
and dissipate in the bright of day
I cannot see hope. I cannot see anyone.
In my prison of self, I am alone.

My mysterious angel
offers me loving words,
a sweetness offered,
a fruit divine, full of love
and honey, it graces my heart
and leaves me not so dark.
a hint of joy? of words shared?
a suggestion of a caress
softness of thought
brings me to the bright
of your lovely light
and shields me
from the harshness
of my lonely night

an offering to my lovely friend Mismused

Lost

Scattered about the cliff base of broken dreams,
lies the shattered remnants of what had been.
Through wrongs, stupidity and ignorance,
all that once could have been destroyed.
Broken on the shoals of regret lies love,
empty of meaning, little remaining but pain.
Actions wrongly taken, with hurt descended,
leaving but a shell reflecting the despair,
of what was harmed and lost.
