As for how people are perceived on the net, up to a point I agree with you. That’s how 70 yr old men such as myself can get away with pretending to be a middle aged woman with pervert tendencies.

However, if someone posts enough you can start to see patterns in their writing and the facts’ they have written. Sometimes those patterns are consistent and you start to see elements of the real person, sometimes the patterns are slowly manipulated to make people who originally were suspicious of the poster start to re-think their ideas. This second type of poster serve only to play with other peoples intuition and psyche as a game. They are the most unpleasant as they have no idea of any long term effects they are having on a complete stranger, they have no idea what else is happening in that persons life which means this particular type of game can tip them over an emotional edge. Then again, sometimes a poster is just too dumb to realise they have not kept up with the particular persona they are trying to convey and make basic errors leaving themselves open to ridicule and allows others to easily see the real person unintentionally 'bleeding' through posts.

I wonder which type of poster you are....then again maybe I have already decided which one I believe you are.

And on a final note, leaving kisses after 'psydo-rudeness' still means you have been bad mannered to another poster, in the world of grown-ups kisses don't take the sting out of any cut made unlike having mummy 'kiss it better' when bad things happen.

Hi Shy!

Anything I posted after fucking with the hijack on the other thread was going to be sensitive - I'm fine with that. Goes with the territory. When I decided to play with the hijack I fully realised who and what I was playing with. How could there not be fall-out for me?
I mentioned ADR purely because on this thread my comment followed on from comments about her and also because after playing with the earlier hijack you might have thought that I was just continuing the same fooling around. I wasn't. I was just popping out a POV on this subject.

All internet appearences are presentations of self. They have an element of performance about them to various degrees. Yet you can get to know the REAL person behind the internet persona I agree.

What kind of poster am I? Well, I've been a cheeky bitch, is all. A newbie came and pissed in your playground & who would like that? Most of my other posts are just talk about kink. Hijacking a hijack is just one of those old internet games. If it's OK for 'A' to hijack a thread then it's OK for 'B' to hijack also.

There is no body-language or voice to listen to here to give you clues, just choice of words & typing to go on. The first lie a liar will ever tell you is that he/she is not a liar.

I only came online here posting at the very end of my data gathering. My crap fed into a Psych study which was the one which tried to turn internet fun into a medical condition (Those boys are SINISTER!)
I've one more study of a Gardening forum then I'M done with all this. I have a new university and a new study in October which leaves Soc & Psych behind & moves into Soc & Statistics. Can't imagine that I will ever be doing the kind of field-work I've done here on Lit. over the past 3 months again. Pray God!

True enough that is a fact, there are Alts, Trolls, phoneys & liars.

Here is another FACT

Many of the regulars here at Lit have been here for at least three years and longer. Many have meet each other in RL at one time or another. Many have talked with one another on the phone. Over that length of time, people have a good chance of discerning who the phoneys and liars are. I have notice that more than not, a good percentage of people around here are more into sharing the magical expereinces of what is "real" in their lives rather than made up things.

Using your perspective as an excuse to be a free for all doesn't wash for me and I reject the notion that its ok to use the indemnity that online provides as a means to put out a false face or change faces whenever its conveint. I will agree that because such conditions may exist, one needs to be more cautious and take more time before investing a deeper level of trust or friendship or even be willing to take what another has to say seriously or not.

Perhaps that might be one of the biggest reasons it may appear around here to be cliqush to some degree. People are looking for like-minded people who share alot of things in common in their real lives. Who share simillar troubles and victories and get helpful advice in real life matters.

Here is a quote from the movie "A Few Good Men". It carries with it often how I feel when I see things being treated lightly that are a serious part of many people lives here.

"We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use these words as the backbone to a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline."

Translation: Words like trust and respect are very much a central part of our lives and the types of relationships we have and pursue, hence these traits are highly valued around these boards. Being treated as specimens to study is not.

Good post RJ. It is offensive if it is even real, but it has happened before in a variety of modes...interestingly, most who do it do have this disrespectful, patronising, show off type way of announcing what they see as clever and what the rest of us see as pathetic and unenlightened.
