So I'm off to buy a new bed, any advice?

What's a *normal* amount to spend, what should I look for?

I'm nervous, I have a hard time spending money on myself and haven't bought a really expensive item in a long time.

I deserve it tho, MY bed is lumpy:(

Let's see.....

1.) Have a plan to get it home. Use their delivery option only if they are nearby and the cost is included in the price.
2.) You definitely want to look for a matress that matches what you want. One minor detail, the firmer it is, the better it will support your back.
3.) Make sure you get the right size. Sounds like a moron hint, but the size depends on how much room you and your partner want when you sleep.
4.) Average bed can cost anywhere from $150-1000 depending on your options. If you are looking for new, be sure to look for the deals first.
5.) You can buy a mismatch set and it will be cheaper than a full set. You need the frame, box spring and mattress. Nice thing about a mismatch is that you cover th whole thing with sheets anyway, so who really cares if it matches or not.

Got a little long winded. Hope it helps.

Thanks, Im fine with the mismatch and I'll have to use delivery, regardless, I know I want a queen size that is what i have now, and I know I want relatively firm, but also want a pillow top.

I was expecting to spend >1000

I HATE SHOPPING FOR DEALS

Im hoping to find what i want at nebraska furniture mart

I thought the title of the thread was bed hopping.

Damn. :p

:D

LOL I KNEW somebody was going to say that!

Doesn't help, I accidently capitalized the "H"

I just bought a new one and I'm not happy. My old one was supposed to be this super dooper support system where the matress comforms to the shape of your body, but what happened after just a short time was my body just formed a depression in the matress and sleeping in it really hurt my back.

So I go out and look for a new one, I got the best one I could afford, it was supposed to be approved by the orthopedic association or somesuch as providing good back support and it was expensive (nearly a thousand in new zealand dollars) and after just a little while, guess what... the same thing with the other one. I'm just forming a depression it it. The problem is it's made of foam, not springs. And the foam just gets squashed down and doesn't spring back. Plus they treat it with chemicals for dust mites and mildew so it smells orrible. So I wasn't a happy chappy. But I've tried to be philosophical about it.

Now if I got a new one I'd definately go with all springs rather than foam because the foam ones just won't last. And make sure you know what exactly is covered in your warantee.

i have heard that some places will let you try matresses out for 30 days before you buy it... but i dont know how that all works with delivery and return, etc.

Yeah I have a foam topper and I've liked it so far, but I'm not sure about getting a foam mattress, now that you've said that I probably won't

I've considered the sleep number bed?

Mainly, I was just going to go for a regular spring mattress.

GOD, I HATE shopping, too many FUCkING CHOICES and i would be downright PISSED if I spent that MUCH money and hated it.

How does 1000 new zealand translate to american dollars?

If you can wait a few weeks...the BIG labor day mattress sales are a great time to get good deals. I love that bed frame!

ooh good point. Yeah I can wait, what I'm sleeping on now is really ok, but I just want a new one.

I KNOW, I just googled wrought iron bed and saw that, which is what I want;)

$696. What's a topper?

All that money and my goddam back still hurts in the morning.

a topper is like a 2 inch mattress pad made of that memory foam.

I tried out beds today and layed/laid? on one of the memory foam beds....IT WAS HORRIBLE. I think it's NOT comfortable AT ALL.

I found a set that will be $699, nice pillow top but firm support.....that doesn't include the wrought iron frame i want :D

Well I've got a bad back, so when I go bed shopping, I say... 'what's the firmest thing you got?'

Add the cushion on top, and it works for me;)
