Did she ask for it?

In any case, 12 is much different from infant to preschooler.
She asked for a horror film but her mother did not want any visible violence. It seemed like a good compromise at the time but it scared the hell out of her and her friends. I was more than a little embarrassed at the time.

Oh dear. I can understand that.

Hostel is more feasible horror which makes it bothersome to many.

I started to watch Ghostrider a few days back. Lost interest. Did not finish it as it seemed lame.

I caught Beauty Shop and John Tucker must die on HBO. I loved John Tucker. It had a cute storyline. It was formula but not in a bad way. Beauty shop was clever and had some great little one liners. Oh and I saw Girl Next Door too. At points, I struggled with the message since it goes against what I want to teach my kids (Had the same issue with School of Rock). However, overall, I enjoyed the fiction.

I was traveling with work this week is how I got to see so many movies.

Is Hostel not kind of along the same lines as Saw?

I saw Ghostrider with the kids in the theater. It was plenty entertaining that way. I expected it to be crap, after all it's based on a cartoon but expected nothing or worse than nothing helps me enjoy a film. Actually lately I'm easy with regards to liking films in the theater. I had candy, popcorn, a drink and good company that helps too.

I enjoyed John Tucker as well!

I'm not real sure if I've seen Beauty Shop yet. I know I've seen two of the Barber Shops. I love Queen Latifah, she's in that isn't she?

Viewing 'highlight' and I use the term loosley this week was watching Shrek in 3D !

Including naturally the dorky'3D' glasses . I don't know if it's an adult brain thing but I had immense difficulty settling into it visually. Kept fighting it . I managed 'glimmers' when my focus relaxed. Best part was watching the little Emperor not only wearing glasses looking very serious but reaching out to 'touch' things that were 'coming out of the screen'. Made the entire chaos quite endearing.

Also watched Donnie Brasco again. Major squirm material in part ...........again.

LOL!

Really?

Cool for you!

Those glasses really are soooo dorky!

Hell yes : laughs : who on earth would possible make krap like that up. Ohh and apparently it was "soooooooo good" we will be watching it again soon. I have been a bad parent and 'explained' it only really works at night when it's dark. I don't know if that is true or not but it's school holidays here and I'll be damned if I am doing that before 6pm !

I don't blame you!

BTW, have you noticed my sig? I'm thinking you could help me out there!

Blades of Glory was as stupid funny as it gets! Yay! Yanno, the other night I was told I looked "just like Amy Poener"

http://www.martinandorloff.com/pictures_files/stills/images/amy%202_jpg.jpg

I don't think so. Anyone who's actually seen my face wish to chime in here?

I get that a lot. I always look, "just like" some damn body. I guess I'm a chameleon or just very common looking. Lovely that.

Other movies:

All's Quiet On The Western Front not the original which was MUCH better in my opinion but the one with John Boy from The Waltons in it. That alone made it difficult for me to watch. I do not enjoy his voice or looks. The book and the first movie are fantastic though. There is another remake in the works I'm told.

We've also been watching the first season of The Closer. Considering I don't like fake Southern accents or the face of the lead actress, this is a great little series.

There was a plot that involved "rough sex" whoo hoo!

Even though they get a lot of Southern outlooks and accents wrong IMO, they still have created a great little character with the Southern Lady Who'll Take No Shit character drawn beautifully! Yay!

Is this a picture of Amy whatshername? Or is it a picture of you?

Regardless, if other people look like you that's okay, but, remember, only you look like you and that's all that counts.

Finally got a chance to rent Shortbus the other night and I'll say that it was at least as good as everyone who'd seen it had led me to believe. It was quirky in delightful ways, the characters were touchingly real, and the visual style was smack-in-your face sharp. While there's a fair amount of sex onscreen (including a couple of orgy scenes that were like a visual bakery counter for sex lovers), it all made perfect sense and I doubt if the story could have been told without it.

I've always felt that a successful movie draws me into its world and makes me want to inhabit it (which may be one reason why I dislike horror movies). I'd love to get to know these people better and to spend time with them at Shortbus.

From what I remember from your pic (it was a long time ago) I can see why they said it. Its a similarity I guess, some similar features etc.

On a side note, I watched Smokin Aces the other day. It was ok, but I think it tried too hard to be too cool and edgy.

I want to see blades of glory, I love will ferral. Hot Fuzz arrived today so I cannot wait to watch that. I have the departed here too so that is another I am looking forward to.

It's whatshername, not me.

I don't think I look nearly that brittle but maybe I'm wrong.

*sigh*

Hot Fuzz was great for my kids and me! We saw it at the dollar house. We laughed our asses off.

:nana: Harry Potter! :nana: Harry Potter! :nana: Harry Potter! :nana:

Just saw it tonight - performances are incredible, especially Imelda Staunton (Vera Drake) as Mrs. Umbridge... Won't say anything more as I don't want to ruin it for anyone, except that while I liked it a great deal, it wasn't as good as the HP films directed by Chris Columbus... :rose: Neon

Yep, we saw it in 3-D Imax a couple of days ago. I thought it was really good. I couldn't agree with you more about Imelda Stuanton, she was excellent. Of course I adore Alan Rickman (that voice!!!) and it's a wee bit embaressing that Professor Snape gets me all hot and bothered.

I just saw it last night. I loved Luna, she looked and acted just as I imagined her while reading the book. The movie was good, but I am much more excited about the last book coming out.

I adored Luna, too! I think that the she was actually more sympathetically portrayed in the film than the book. :D

*chuckles* one of my friends has the same obsession. Now me? Give me Gary Oldman anytime! (And those tattoos peaking out of his robe in this film... )

Last night I watched Black Snake Moan, with Samuel L. Jackson and Christina Ricci. They both put in fabulously deep performances in a marvelously well-written movie. Justin Timberlake also does a good turn. What drew me to the movie was the previews and posters showing Ricci's character chained up by Jackson's character. The posters had this steamy noir novel look to them that was equally enticing. While I prefer not to spoil things, this movie is much more about redemption and love than any of the promotional materials would have led you to believe

I see this as one of the very best movies of the last year or two.

I was very sorry that I didn't see this when it was in theatres. Thanks for the reminder! :rose: Neon

I've always liked that actress. We saw it yesterday. We all enjoyed it too.

We've seen a lot of movies lately.

Blades of Glory was silly, stupid fun.;

Wild Hogs was also silly but with a homage of sorts to another biker film.

There may have been another but I can't think of it right now.

There is just too much going on here.

*head spins*

BTW, I am stunned at how most of the actors and actresses give up vanity to actually look like the characters. (That means, yucky, to me.)

Luna's actress reminded me of a pre schooler I know. That freaked me out a bit. Her character was quite heroic IMO>
