Thank you, tortoise.

To you and all the Foodies I wish the best eats ever. Enjoy your friends and loved ones and travel safe.

Thank you, my friend. Have a good one.

I'm off to the kitchen!

Cranberry Orange Slush

This is so very refreshing!

1 cup Mrs.Gerrys Cranberry Orange relish
1 12oz Can of Frozen Orange juice concentrate, slightly frozen
3 1/2 cups of water
2 liters 7Up

In a blender, combine relish, orange juice concentrate. Process until smooth.
Pour into a 4qt plastic container and add water, stir until blended.
Freeze overnight.
Let mixture stand at room temperature until it is a slushy consistency, about 2 hours. Scoop about a 1/4 cup into a tall glass, fill with chilled 7Up. This can all be poured into a big punch bowl, as well, if you don't want to do it individually. enjoy!

We're trying the turkey the "Silver Palate" way, using cheesecloth over the top...I'll let you know if it lives up to expectations. (No frying for us, even though I have heard it is wonderful.)

Also, the husband is addicted to green bean casserole, but they had a recipe to brighten it up in this week's "Food Day" in the paper, so we're doing it fresh, not canned.

Of course, I use the Queenly "We" as I am working and the boys are downstairs cooking and treating me like a ghost. I planned the meal, the boys cook it today. Once the turkey's in, we'll go shower...we being the husband and I...no son on that one...

Enjoy!

I hope that you and yours have a good one too, my friend.

Et tu, Jesu. Enjoy the loin o' pork and the justified pride.

I did the lion's share of the cooking yesterday. On the agenda today: giblet gravy, cranberry/clementine relish, haricots vert, cooking the prepared dressing, heating everything up, and frying the turkeys.

The loin o' pork was as wonderful as ever. One of these days I'm going to have to actually participate in the cooking of it, just to learn how. I'm afraid if I do, though, Mrs Rug will make me cook it ever after. That was my mistake with pork chops. I steadfastly refuse to learn cornbread technique for just that reason.

Wow, you've eaten and our's just went in the oven. We're not eating until 5 in case I get a call to work. That way our meal won't be interrupted...

We have the mother in law over, and she has to be back before 5. It seemed best to start early. Everything but the pork roast was done last night, and merely had to be warmed.

Okay, the Silver Palate recipe was one of the best Turkey's we've had. This was our 20th Thanksgiving Dinner at our house...I missed our move in anniversary and didn't even think about it! November 15, 1987.

Excellent. Stand firm!

I'm glad your dinner was a success. Mine was... indescribable. I'm still buzzing from the experience. It was unbelievably hectic, as always, and I worked my ass off, as always, but I was in my element. Couldn't possibly be happier. The outpouring of appreciation and yummy noises truly moved me.

Congratulations!

That Silver Palate recipe does look amazing. I may try that one next year. I love doing the fried turkeys, but variety is the spice of life and all that.

This is one of those "you had me at 'Hello'" threads...I love it! I wanted to share a fruit crumble recipe with you which has turned into a labor of love for me. There are easier ways to make it, but when I'm trying to feed souls as well as appetites, it seems like a cop-out not to suffer just a little over it!

Apple Crumble
Filling
6 green apples (32 oz, 900g), chopped. (I also peel, hence the "labor" bit, and never use canned)
1/3 c sugar
2 t lemon juice
1/2 t cinnamon

Preheat over at 350 F/180 C

Peel and chop apples, sprinking lemon juice over them as you go. Add sugar and cinnamon and combine. Put in a 2 3/4 pint (6 1/2c) capacity ovenproof dish.

Topping
1 c old fashioned oats (rolled oats)
1/2 c brown sugar
1/4 c plain flour (all-purpose)
2 1/2 oz (75g) softened butter.

Combine topping ingredients. This is where the fun really starts. Roll your sleeves up and get stuck in. Feel the silkiness of the butter coating the roughness of the oats. Enjoy how the softness of the flour mixes with the grainier sugar. Marvel at how it all squishes together between your fingers.

Place the topping over the fruit base. Bake for 50 minutes or until the top is dark golden and crisp.

The trick is to serve this blistering hot, straight out of the oven, with a really good vanilla ice cream (not too sweet). When you first put the spoon into the crumble, there should be a sizzle, as the moisture released by the apples hits a part of the baking dish which was dry. This will only happen when it's first out of the oven. Timing wise, it's worth making people work around the dessert, rather than having the dessert work around them...IMHO.

Enjoy!

You had me at "you had me at hello". That sounds absolutely mouthwatering, honeypot, and I love your vivid, sensual descriptions. Thank you for sharing, and welcome to the thread!

Thank you! It'll be out of the oven in 2 minutes and 6 seconds...time to go and get the ice cream out of the freezer...damn it smells good!

It was bliss - from the sizzle through the melting ice cream to the last scrape of the spoon on the plate. I  that recipe!

Yum! I am definitely going to try it soon. Thank you again for sharing it. You will clearly be a welcome addition to this thread. It's a pleasure to meet you.

I'm off to bed, still buzzing from a wonderful day. Good night!

Thank you for the warm welcome. Sounds (and looks) like you're well deserving of the accolades for your efforts today - great job and sleep well.

I was too busy running around to take a ton of pictures, but I did snap a few of the winter root medley and the second turkey:

Thank you, Tati. I'm still on cloud 9. If you are still stuffed, then I trust you had a wonderful meal?

Thanks, A! It was so much fun. Exhausting, but labor of love exhaustion is a wonderful thing. How was your day? Did you go with the ratatouille or the the puffy asparagus?

I know this is a sex site, really sometimes I actually forget that, but this in all honesty, is the only thread that ever truly excites me.

Those pics. Sweet Jesus.

I love to make you go all unnecessary.

We have plenty of leftovers! Come on over.

Man.

"You do the shopping. I'll cook. What? No, no problem, I'm happy to do it. You just buy the groceries..."

Remind me next year why I am never going to utter these words in this exact way again.

Story to follow.
