Oh I own my own business too. This is my third business so far and all have been successful on a modest scale, which was all I was after. I'm my only employee in this one. In one contract I do have some supervision of others that serve as independent contractors in the same capacity I do. I asked why me, when that group asked me to serve in that role. They said I was the one they trusted, the only one who really knew the system, had the creativity and business sense. I liked that compliment. Damn, they conned me into taking that position! *grr* LOL!

Wowsers.

I'm in the individuals-before-gender camp. I've had good bosses and bad bosses of both genders and I have personality preferences before I have gender preferences. I get along equally well with both genders. When all personality issues are equal I have a slight preference for female bosses because there's less chance of sexual tension in the workplace.

What astounds me is to hear a bunch of women say that they find other women to be petty, manipulative, backstabbing bitches in the workplace and then trot off as if they haven't just implicated themselves and every other female that posts here.

Seriously, if every person who posted here were right about the deplorable character of women in the workforce that would mean that greater than 99% of the female workforce are petty, manipulative bitches. Except that somehow none of the women here are petty manipulative bitches.

Both things cannot possibly true.

There are some folks who could be great employees if they have the right kind of management, but that kind of management is rare. Consequently these folks are better off being their own bosses or being the bosses of other people.

I don't do good "cog" because I tend to stand out. If things aren't going quickly enough or smoothly enough I tend to try to improve them because I'm frustrated by the lack of efficiency or quality. I literally can't NOT care about what I'm doing. If I don't care about it then I don't see why I should be doing it. I don't get out of bed for things I don't give a shit about.

So I'm either going to draw attention and get moved up with more responsibility but not enough to get accomplished what I want --- which is to rule the world --- or I'm going to draw attention and have some insecure middle management type try to knuckle me under. Either way I will eventually get fed up and move on. I only stay places where I have enough autonomy to be comfortable.
