Artists of Erotica...

I feel that even if those symbols are accidental...as the creator of them...I feel when we DO recognize them.. we should learn from them and take time for introspection. We will learn much about ourselves as well as others by doing so
...

I agree with you that it is worth some effort to look at what comes up in your work. Especially when it happens unconsciously. I am a strong believer of Jung's theory about the subconscious.

However, I feel there are people who can read whole volumes in a couple of sentences based on what they see as symbols. Same goes for visuals. I think you have to be very careful with interpretations, they can easily slip into insertions. (Not sure this conveys my meaning, but my English is letting me down a bit here.)

:D

I haven't forgotten you...

Black Tulip,

Just letting you know that I haven't forgotten your illustration. I had a number of concepts in my head after reading the story. It just took some time to mull them all over and decide which one was clicking the best for me. Maybe before this holiday weekend is out I'll have it posted for you.

Artistic image manipulation

*eg* Rhino, LOL.

skill vs talent... vision versus view....

lemme plagarize some one who was no doubt plagiarizing someone else when he wrote this comment.

"I don't know what art is, but I know what I like. I don't decorate my living space with things I don't like." That he was speaking to me about my work was nice of course.

I know a couple of "Poser" artists whose vision is particularly special. I also know a couple of guys who have a penchant & skill with Photo shop & Paint shop & animation software. They can do magic with a tablet and pixel pen.

If it pleases me I'll collect it.

If someone puts hours and hours of themselves into a creative enterprise, even if the foundation of that enterprise is something first made by someone else, as long as there is no theft or misrepresentaion involved, I find their product artistic in its own right.

Then again, I find frost crystals and rumpled bed sheets artisticly pleasing. :p

now, don't you think this animation of my drawing is pleasingly artistic? the guy who did it loved my drawing and added his own great love of the sensuality of our fetish to bring it a little something extra... and yet the drawing is still there...

Truly! People often project their OWN symbolism , their own phobias or whatever into what we see. THAT is part of why I feel it is MORE critical that as we create we know what those potential misinterpretations might be
....

Yes, that's part of it. But I was more referring to those who like to show their deep understanding of the artistic mind by finding all kinds of symbols that were not meant to be there. I know the mind can play tricks without you realizing it, but some people read a message into everything. LOL

Like giving meaning to the fact that I always write with purple ink in my fountainpen. Purple is my favorite color (surprise, surprise) and it is not some hidden clue to the fact that I am in mourning. Or a secret wish to be royalty.

Well, you'll see what I'm getting at?

I understand you point and I have been irritated by other people interpretation of a tree on the hill

"Maybe he saw a tree and decided to paint it, but what the hell do I know."

I do get some impressions from pieces of art. It's just my interpretation and only has value to me. It's cool when someone else get the same impression, but no loss if they don't.

I think this is a very important fact.

"smooch"!?
I thought I had pissed everyone off.

Patty...I wish I had you as a resource model!

I'd happily send you pics to use for muse except my hubby would spank me... LOL. seriously, he would. Mmmmm LOL! well now, maybe we could work out an exchange (provided you promise to tell on me) ....

On the other note; no I'm not pissed off, though a bit disinclined to engage in the debate. Been burned and villified for having my own mind, opinons and half a brain before, so I'm really not looking to do anything but share my writing and art work here.

I'll watch you firm up your thoughts and hope you see them for the implications they seem to hold in the broader sense. You have a right to flesh them out. Please don't think I'm being condescending here, I'm not, but a few pages back I was reading your comments and had to stop myself. "He's playing devil's advocate here. He has to be." Let me just say what flashed through my mind then when you made a comment about the simple use of filters and tools not translating to art. OK? --- If we take your interpretations literally, then Ansel Adams is not an artist. He used nothing but his a camera and a bunch of fancy filters and tools. He didn't create the scenes he captured and shared with us, he captured, froze and enhanced them. Yet through that media he found a voice as valuable to me artitistically as the one found by Georgia Okeiffe who used her hands and traditional media to render her images.

In my heart I'm wondering if you really don't grasp the potential of software in the hands of an innovative and talented individual, or if you do fully grasp it, and for your own reasons, don't trust consumers to embrace them without abandoning you.

I'm not pissed off. Just wondering why there's a debate at all I guess.

To me, if someone puts themselves into creating something that pleases them, in particular, if they dedicate significant amounts of their time, interest and desire into it, their work deserves recognition, and if it's visual and creative (regardless of my taste), it doesn't matter to me what instrument they used. It is the sum of all parts including the creator's vision... this to me is art.

shrug ... ya know?

And page 27, I love the way the Three J's turned out on the last panel.

Fun stuff, Saiyaman. These last four panels got a pretty good chuckle out of me. Well done.

I did not intend an idle flirt.
I am jealous of having a live-in model! You can pose yourself (and your husband I assume) to realise your visions.

Sorry for daring to banter. I meant nothing inappropriate by it.

For your information, No I don't "pose" any one to realize my vision. My muse is far more passive than that. If I come across a video or digital still that appeals to me I draw from it. As it happens there are a few of those of us around, and yes some of them are sexy.

Otherwise I draw from my mind. Cases in point? The last 6 drawings I have placed here on this board in the various threads over the last two weeks or so. All just figments of my twisted imagination.

Ohhh, I knew you would come up with something nice. :D

I especially like the face with the glass overlooking all. That's one image that hadn't come to my mind. Very nice indeed.

Of course I have some details to nag about. LOL

The lead character has a Mephisto beard. Something like this:

And I would like the blond girl, to the left, to have a rounder face.
She's supposed to look a bit more innocent than the other.
Very minor detail: she was wearing glasses, but if that's too much to work in, you can leave them off.

I really like the manipulator in the background.

I'm not sure how I missed that. I thought I had noted the various physical attributes that were in the story for each character. I'll play with it today. It shouldn't be too much of a problem to add in, but if it doesn't set well in the picture I'll let you know.
