What’s your most controversial opinion?

All they have to do is shut up about things they clearly know nothing about, and are harmful to one of the most vulnerable, and marginalized groups of people in the US (and probably world at large).
I don't expect them to change, or even change their opinions (though I've often provided information that undermines said opinions).
I'd be happy if they'd just shut up.
Literotica isn't a place I'm likely to cause change. But it doesn't have to be a place where bigotry is welcome.

If we only spoke about things we knew with certainty this would likely be a very boring place...

I have read this thread over the last few days (listening more that speaking), but I must have missed the bigoted opinion. While I have read a variety of view points, I haven't seen anyone showing intolerance of others.

I won't speak for this thread's creator, but it seems that this thread was created to share opinions and not determine right from wrong. Everyone should voice their opinions - but as you respond to others, remember that you will come off more elevated and more considerate if you are able to recognize that there is a difference in disagreeing and disrespecting.

You say that you don't think Lit is a place to cause change, but I actually think you are missing an opportunity. @HotBrand is a perfect example of someone who has personally taught me a lot over the years through compassion, respect, and patience. This is a place made up of mostly open-minded people, willing to listen and learn. But when you take a defensive stance people stop wanting to listen and start only hearing the aggression.

I’m on the side of rights for transgender individuals…and for the rights of anyone who are being marginalized for something they have limited choices on (that is to say that I champion rights based on gender identity, sexual preference, race, etc).

But I will never condone being told to shut up about a topic on which I’m not in the MOST apt position to discuss. I believe that there is wisdom to be heard from men on abortion, from heterosexuals on gay rights, from middle-easterners on American politics, from people of color on white privilege, and from any number of other things.

Censorship is the plague. American culture is built on pluralism. And, personally, I want to hear as many people and as many arguments as possible so that I can make an informed decision. I don’t care from whom that argument comes; I judge it on its own merit.

When we stop thinking about individual arguments…that is to say when we think about things abstractly and stop listening to how things impact people on an individual level, it’s easy to forget that pro-lifers often believe they’re fighting against murder and that african Americans still feel like they’re fighting against slavery (in some form).

It seems absurd as I’m about to type it into existence. But we need to respect people with different opinions and pay them the fucking effort to see things from their perspective.

Baked potatoes are the worst form of potatoes…

There; I’ve said it.

Let’s fight, Idaho.

I know from experience, saying things that are hurtful to others, especially when we aren't knowledgeable about the issue, is a big mistake. It gets us nowhere, only further from the truth. I have been so strong in my beliefs, I forgot the most important thing, common decency. I hurt a lot of people and deserve the reaction, I have inspired by my own actions. Here's what I think, if you wouldn't do something in your real life, why would you do it online.

Potatoes are like people. I love them all. I am like Jesus in that way and a lot of other ways too. Ask around.

Have you ever had twice baked potatoes???
I've never heard of this!

what are the best? (Please be more clever than “fries” 😊)
I learnt a mean way of preparing a form of fried potato. Not sure which word translates well for them ... um ... scallops? Fritters? I call them "sglodion cylch". They're ... potatoes cut either as flat circles (or split into rounded planks) and fried in a wok.

They're good with things like chicken in white sauce, donchaknow?

Ahem.

Worst is mashed. Don't you dare desecrate that potato with that masher, darling!

Worst is mashed? You can’t be American. The entire holiday of thanksgiving just walked off stage, back to his trailer, and is calling his agent.

You’re not wrong. And, a fully-dressed baked potato isn’t bad at all. But, if you give me all the fun stuff on French fries…it’s better.
A local place does philly steak cheese fries. Add some pickled peppers and hot sauce and it is pure heaven.

Well said

I forget that people do detach a little when interacting with the internet and that can be a huge frustration for me, because bad behavior abounds.

Kudos for recognizing that and working on it. It's hard fucking work to look at yourself and decide to do better. I'm proud of you.

May I suggest that when you feel able to, explore why you had such strong reactions in the first place? You certainly don't have to share, but I'll happily talk this one through with you. I'm sure I'll learn something, too.

That's fair - but this isn't the "educated opinion" thread and I don't think anyone here is spreading dangerous information (or the Mods would have stepped in).
Tossing around words like bigot and assumptions made about what "you know" or should know doesn't seem necessary in an open platform for sharing... opinions.
Mods shouldn’t step in for opinions we personally find dangerous. If we could (or should), I will just say I am 100% in agreement with Lady_Rush. My tasks as a mod are to remove things that break the Lit rules, not things I find deplorable.

Sounds like my opinion is less and less controversial by the minute.

Can I turn this into a religion somehow? I could use the extra income.

Mashed potatoes are part of an American Thanksgiving? I thought it was all ... turkey and ... cranberry sauce?

... there's turkey, right?

... that feeling that you know nothing ...

Potato flakes in a box are the best potatoes.
Link this, please. I have no clue what you’re talking about. It needs representation, though. Without a kind voice, it’s gonna supplant baked potato as my worst version.
