The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

Continuation - We go to the self serve kiosk and it’s in a different row/bin than what’s in the ticket. We go there, and there are none in stock. I get an employee involved and he can’t find one. Now they are getting ready to close and I’m on my third option. We finally get it, pay, load it, and drive the 60 miles home. We get home and I’m fucking exhausted. It’s still in the back of the van waiting for me to assemble it tonight.
Sorry bro, that sounds like a really shitty time. I’m crossing my fingers that this one gets put together successfully and quickly..

Right? They tend to go the easy route (for them) with the pizza or a trip to the dollar store for a cheap piece of <redacted> where the gift bag costs more than the gift. Ridiculous IMO!

ETA:
Heck - give me an extra hour off the books to leave early one day. Even that would be preferable
People seem to forget that they’re 1 million ways to reward employees. Sometimes just telling them how much you appreciate them, or a card or something like that goes a really long way….

Good night everyone! Was a very long day in the big Apple.

I was a little bit annoyed with my boss, because she had a team dinner. Since we’re all staying in the city, I thought it would be nice to get together with a friend from work, but it was not to be.

So the four of us get to the restaurant, except it’s a table for five. Weird, OK. I move the one extra chair a little over to the side. About five minutes after we take our seats, an old friend of mine who used to work in our Chicago office sat down! I couldn’t believe it.

He changed companies and happen to be in town and my boss, and he arranged the dinner! It was a great night of catching up. He had to be in town this week, because his son is playing in the Macy’s parade on Thursday! So crazy, but a really nice surprise.

Goodnight... rest well!

I guess that’s why they called them crate engines! 😂

Nary a crate engineer in that batch. Those crates had 36" x 24" mirrors shipped in them and they're quite heavy duty, so I salvaged them from a job so they wouldn't go to waste. They have some heavy bits in them, like 36" long flathead cylinder heads. Those jewels are heavy. Hell, it's all heavy. There are half a dozen Mopar B blocks along the back wall out of sight.

I miss not having Fred in the barn for projects any more. She was a good supervisor. The time had come for her to go inside.

And for Wat to crash . . . .

Love it when a plan comes together - even better when there's an element of surprise, too! 😍

I’m torn about this. My mother grew up very poor, so attempted to make the holidays very special. I love her for that. My wife grew up in a divided household (Catholic vs Jehovah’s Witness…the JW a former Catholic) so she remembers the holidays as nothing but conflict. Our house is her trying to skip the holidays and myself trying to emulate my mother’s example.

What I have done to make it less stressful is to just enjoy the moment. Take everything slow. Cook things that only get made this time of year. Watch movies that have sort of become family traditions…even if they’re not holiday oriented (Like Water for Chocolate being one), write my Christmas cards, and gift giving is something I make or something that someone needs. Lastly, just try to bring a smile to peoples face.

That’s the Hump’s keys to the holidays. You’re welcome!😂. Your MZ…

This sounds like the way to Christmas! Years ago, my husband and I decided not to buy each other presents.

And my family don't buy presents. We're all in a list to donate to each other's charitable causes. My sister is keeper of the list, draws the names, and sends out assignments yearly. Only the little children get gifts.

I, of course, decorate because I'm a bit crazy like that. And I bake. On Christmas day, I would make a special meal. Then we could sit on the couch, look at the lights, and talk. It was calm and bright without the frenzy of present opening.

🤣. We do things like this! We had the whole cast of the Rudolph animated show as tree ornaments. The Abominable being my favorite. Some hand made yarn spun goats from Mexico and traditional German wooden ornaments from when we lived there. And my personal favorite…Yoda! My oldest son had a small figurine he put in the tree when he was maybe 5. It was carelessly put away with the decorations and we thought he’d been lost. Found him the next year, and now he’s had a starring role in the tree for the last 20 + yrs!😂.
Gotta love those traditions! 🥰🥰
