Pump and dump geothermal systems are dandy if there's a lot of water and a place to dump it.
Yes, otherwise closed loop is the option. We had the water and space, so...

Check into them here in NJ they only work to a certain temperature, they freeze and don't work.
That's an air to air heatpump. Look into a closed loop, or open loop ground source heat pump.

Edit: It's finally raining! Thunder, Lightning, and the whole bit!

Heat pump performance shouldn't be an issue in Jersey. It doesn't get that cold there. You just have to buy a decent engineered system.
There are other systems, too.
Where does the water go? Most communities don't allow any sort of used water to be discharged into surface waters without a permit. I can see serious issues with sewers if a lot of people got on the bandwagon.

When they took all that away and made us look like drones to be mistaken as transport or lab (no offense to them) it took a lot of our power away and we let it happen. Worst thing that ever happen to nursing was magnet. More focus on letters behind the name and not on the profession of nursing. There was a recent study that over 50% of a nurses day is spent doing paperwork. AND...we are brainwashed to thing to be a "good" nurse we need to sacrifice our own needs and what is right because "that is what a good nurse does" well that is straight up bullshit.... and when a bunch of whinging women get together it is mahem..... and nothing gets done because all the decisions are based on emotion and not the cold hard facts....
I’m sorry that has happened. I hope it change.

By law we can dump water for up 120KBTU/hr heat pump anywhere without a permit. (We're 65KBtu/hr)

In our case it runs into into the same place rainwater and spring snow melt does. In actuality, it sinks into the ground within about 50 feet of dumping it. So other than a little evaporation, it returns to the ground. This would't work everywhere, but the choice was engineered for our exact location.

On the new build the payback was 2.5 years over propane and a AC unit.
Excellent payback. I already have a one year old boiler and baseboard heat from the 1950s in the house. My next step is to contract to replace or add to existing insulation.

The local government is getting pushback on converting everything to electric.

My neighbor has a heat pump and solar. My HVAC people advised me not to do either considering the payback period was longer than my expected stay at this house. I have opted for thermal window coverings.
I opted for triple pane windows and high quality sealing. And, I will likely get what I paid for the solar from the next owner. If everything had to make financial sense, I'd have forced air heat. But, I like comfort.

I have spent a fair amount of time in hospitals over recent years with myself and parents etc. When I walk in it always seems the nurses are doing mostly paper work.
I stil have follow up visits for my issues and physicals etc. I rarely see a Dr. anymore. Mostly PA's

There are a lot of places in the world that do not have enough water to be able to do this.

A nap is in the plan today. I slept fine until 1, took Tylenol because my lower back hurt. Finally fell asleep. Up for taxi run this morning. Heating pad is on the back.

If you don’t know why your lower back is hurting, it’s probably doctor time.
Kidney infections can feel that way and while heat might make it feel better, it’s not a great idea. Could also be stones.

We also went high efficiency windows, High R value insulation, and everything else we could.
In addition house is designed/oriented to pick up solar heat. (Not much sun in winter, but it takes what's there.)
Forced air heat, need good circulation with filtration (allergies). AC is not possible without it. (Can't open windows, allergies again...)

Agreed, yes there are. That's why the design needs to be optimized what works in a particular area. We're very rural, have space, and water. So it makes sense. Others I know have geothermal closed loop systems, not as much water. The closed loop has an efficiency hit, for slightly larger heating bill. Still better than anything else.

Wood is a viable option here. But allergies, so chose not to. Spent over a decade going through the design and options before building. This setup is very much specific to the property. In general, agree with all your points. This would not be ideal in a lot of places.

Yeah sewer plants can only process so much a day

They're different, but it's not super clear. Trickle chargers way back when used to be dumb. Modern float chargers are smart units that monitor battery voltage, and should also monitor ambient temperature. They adjust the voltage going to the battery, and cycle charging on and off depending on where the battery is at.

I've seen old school trickle chargers kill batteries. The modern ones have extended battery life 2 or 3 times in my experience.

I also adhere to the old wives tale about not keeping them on a concrete floor. Don't know if that matters, but I just do it anyway.

In my experience, if you plan to let a battery sit for long periods of time, it seems best to disconnect the ground cable. If it runs down, recharge (slowly!) the week before you need it again. Keeping them on a charger seems to kill them.

But, how do you really feel about this???
