A list of all the ways DeSantis has tried to meddle in Florida’s abortion ballot measure

MAGAs say “leave abortion decisions to the states” but red states fight against allowing the people to vote on the issue.

Runty Ronnie DeSantis is the worst. Not surprised.

But Florida stands out for how DeSantis is deploying multiple levers of power within his administration to discredit the amendment and even block political speech about it. While courts have pushed back on some of those efforts, they amount to the most sweeping and brazen government-funded campaigns opposing an abortion ballot measure this election cycle.

“What we are seeing is an incredible pushback from our government in terms of just our freedom to have a free and fair election,” Bacardi Jackson, executive director of the ACLU of Florida, said on a Friday call with reporters.

Journalist Jason Garcia, author of the Seeking Rents newsletter, has tracked nearly $20 million in taxpayer funds that have gone to state-sponsored ad campaigns opposing Amendment 4 and Amendment 3, which would legalize recreational marijuana in the state.

I always predicted that if Roe were ever overturned it would be an electoral disaster for the GOP -- and that is proving to be the case.

Abortion is an issue on which the swing voters are people who are morally uncomfortable with abortion, but still want the clinics to be there in case their daughters get pregnant. When abortion was a constitutional right, set beyond the reach of ordinary electoral and legislative politics, those could vote Republican without fear that would really threaten abortion access -- but now?

Ohio Judge Permanently Strikes Down Six-Week Abortion Ban

Now patently unconstitutional due to 2023 voter-approved state constitutional amendment

I did not realize that current abortion restriction laws enacted by the aging white Ohio Republicans are still on the books.

Each Ohio abortion restriction law remains in force DESPITE the new amendment UNTIL someone challenges the law in court and the court declares each law unconstitutional on a one-by-one basis.

I guess this makes sense from a legal standpoint.

Nonetheless, this victory was the "big one" in Ohio, the main abortion prevention law that triggered at six weeks. The courts have found that the state of Ohio may not get legally involved in any abortion decision prior to *drumroll* "fetal viability", which is somewhere 22 to 24 weeks.

Next up on the legal chopping block are the so-called "roadblock" laws: "mandatory ultrasounds" law(s), the "mandatory waiting period" law(s) and the especially odious "mandatory pregnancy alternatives counseling" law (which the state currently has a contract with an evangelical "Christian birth ministry" owned by.....a white Christian Ohio state legislator).

The legislator in question's sole source of income was the mandatory $150 fee collected from any woman wanting an abortion. Why yes, she is a Republican!

The ACLU is happily accepting all new cases about existing abortion laws.

Keep choppin' wood, ACLU!

There is literally no valid argument for such a requirement, even to save the life of a fetus. That somehow doesn't stop people from requiring it, I fear. I'm afraid to even ask my parents what they think, for fear that their answer would dishearten me and lower my view of them. I love them, but I already know that they view the world in a skewed manner. I don't want further confirmation of just how much.

That by definition then means you should be able to handily win any argument on that issue.

You assume the worst even from family you love?

You don't see a fundamental problem with that perspective of yours? Is your perspective so weak that it cannot challenge others or hold its own against differing viewpoints?

And I also noticed you said if their opinion is a certain way, you would lower your view of them. Is that a one way street you built, or do your parents lower their view of you as well when you have a different viewpoint?

Maybe the days of American women playing God are over.
If women want to entice men to support their argument of absolute authority over unwanted parenthood, they should push for men to have equal absolute authority over their obligations of parenthood. Like complete removal of legal frameworks forcing men to pay for children they don't want to pay for.

These are issues that are a concern to you how??

If you're going to argue "Who gives a shit about men having absolute freedom from the consequences of potential children", then why should anyone care about women demanding the exact same right? Aren't we supposed to treat men and women as equals?

Apply the law equally. Heck, it's not really even to begin with. Women are demanding the right to kill the fetus, with zero say from anyone else. Okay, fair enough. Just give men the right to financially abandon it as well, with zero say from anyone else.

Wahhhhh.
Who is out here looking out for the interests of a man with an erection? 🤷‍♀️

We can resolve this easily.

Killing babies is wrong.

Carve outs- it’s okay to kill anything conceived in the bitter babycaves of Adrina & Butters.
It appears that you two should have an open conversation explaining what each means between fetuses and babies.

And yet that's exactly what you're doing.

Weird
He thankfully deleted his post but by their very own definition, if a man masturbates then he’s willfully taking part in killing whatever definition they want to go with.

This always makes me think male members are trying to hide their true intentions for female members and serves to cement my belief in the right for abortion and autonomy in light of such violent misogyny.
