The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

Have you looked into alternative construction methods? I recently read articles on bag-built and tire-built homes. The bag houses are made with bags full of dirt. Tire houses are those made with old tires, also filled with dirt. HUGE R-values on both!

Yes, a little. That's why I've looked into the spray foam insulation. Infiltration is a big one. I'm going to be kinda stuck with traditional construction.

Stick built or prefab?

Probably stick built walls and engineered (of some variety) floors and roof trusses. Either a block or poured foundation - I'm not sure what's more feasible/available there. I have several friends in the business there, so I'll put my efforts into planning.

I pitched Uno, Dos and Tres for the chicken names.

Good morning all. Going on cup 2 and then walk the old dog. Checking in to see if my son is going with me to see my sister and brother in law. My brother in law has stage 5 kidney diseases. I love that big guy. He would love all the farm and tractor talk.
I'm sorry your BIL is ill. Is he on a transplant list? 🫂

Lol. From what I understand although not recently with prices poured foundations more durable and quicker although more expensive, and prefab can be faster in a controlled environment and more customized at a less expense then stick built.

Okay, so I went back and looked at the ad for the position I have the phone interview for this morning. Turns out, it's not far from the house and it's in the little niche sector of the business that I've been working in since the aughts. All of a sudden, my attitude and outlook have perked up. Yeah, if they come through with something, this could be a concept we could get behind.

So we'll see . . . .
Excellent! I hope it works out for you!

I really need to see what the "tract" builders closer to town are doing. That'll be what's common, and what's least expensive. There are some tricks to make a block foundation perform more like a poured one. I'm still in the planning stages.

At least with names you know who you are eating when the time comes 😂😂
Lol…that’s the danger!

Quick family story. My dad or uncle (they were Irish twins) when they were wee lads won a contest at school and the prize was a little biddy chic. They named it Bibi. Grandaddy built a coop for it and life was good.

Well, they being country come to town, my grandmother goes out to the coop and goes about preparing supper!😂

When the boys came home from school they started asking about Bibi…and then see’s Ol’ Bibi is for supper🤣

My dad said they sat down, and not a word was said (except grace maybe) and finally my uncle pipes up, “poor Bibi…”. He said it was the saddest meal they ever had😭.

So tread carefully Wat…naming those critters…not a problem if there’s no chance they’ll end up on the table!😂

We got the big girl Lab from some folks who had her and got rid of her for chasing the cows and killing the chickens. I think that Daisy will get them before anything else does. Unless she lets them out for the day and the hawks find out about it.

Yes. There are so many rivers here. People continue to build in the flood plain then get wiped out every year. 🙄
No cure for stupidity and its endemic here too. Greedy developer builds in flood plain and stupid people buy the houses!

We sit 60 ft above sea and river level.for a reason. If we get flooded Old Noah will be passing by and I will be hitching a lift.

Which brings on another memory. Three ha'pence a foot...one of the Stanley Holloway monologues. Might not appeal to the sophisticated tastes of N America but always makes me giggle.

One farmer in my area is suing the govt. over highway construction that effectively blocks the drainage off his property.
The government did the same here
Took out the natural flow and trying to make water take tight turns
All it does is create more flooding problems
We had a Cat and dozier come in and build levy’s around the house and barn
With out let pumps to pump the rain water out
One rancher sued and lost
Same type of issue we’re having. We have major erosion, threatening our buildings. One of the old barn foundations is actually collapsed into the stream and there’s nothing we can do about it.

Unless you have millions of dollars to file applications, want to invite the DEP to come to your site to do a survey for threatened or endangered species (and God help you if you do actually have one in your habitat).

I love to just put riprap down on the rotating stream banks, but if they find it, you have to remove it and get fined by the day.

I really need to bring in a hydrologist, or an engineer to take a look and see what’s the best way is to proceed.

But, Essentially, we’re fucked.
