I think Iāve read somewhere that ALL Scotch is aged in bourbon barrels imported from the US or Sherry barrels imported from Spainā¦(Iām sure there are exceptions to the rules) but itās common practice so Iāve been led to believeā¦I bought my mom a bottle of Glen levitt 15 yr..apparently aged in bourbon barrels. There were a lot of choices so I picked what I thought was best (and didn't cost 179 dollars)
Over in the PG thread PhotoGirl started a recipe threadā¦maybe we should put one here so we donāt have to go digging into 300+ pages to find that one drink or spaghetti recipe? So far so d, ma'am, and Happy Weekend to you, too.
I pulled out Wonder67's s'ghetti sauce recipe and the Desire to Tune that has always liked in my head. So, crushed tomatoes. I made the bestest sauce ever when I used Romas that I had grown myself. That's not happening this year, but I discovered that Contadina cans Roma maters, so I scored a bunch. It doubled the cost of that ingredient, but it sure as Hell tastes like I had a hankerin' for and that's all that matters. I use more garlic and onions, and I'm tossing in 2 pounds of mild Italian sausage. I weaseled out on the spices and just used Italian seasoning, but I used a lot of it. It''s be ready in 8 hours because it's getting the very slow cook.
Mostly lurking.Hey, girl! Where have you been? It's good to see you!![]()

Thoughts?
Weāll let it marinate for a day, let the gals get some input and weāll brainstorm ideas about how to do itā¦That's an idea I can get behind.
Donāt know if it applies to āallā Scotch; however, during prohibition in the U.S. whiskey barrels were āone and doneā and found there way to Scotch distillers.I think Iāve read somewhere that ALL Scotch is aged in bourbon barrels imported from the US
Welcome to the old persons room!! Where we talk about mowing the yard, keeping the darn kids off our nice lawn, cooking and bbq, and the noises we make getting out of a chair. lolWow! That thread is amazing! I canāt believe I havenāt opening it before now, as it will certainly be a favorite going forward. Thanks, @Photog1rl!![]()
The thread had been bumping along but I had an issue with an image I posted in a different thread (I think it was a rainbow photo of the dog parkOKā¦I found PhotoGirls recipe and drink thread here.
Check out how she formatted the recipes!. Very cool. Iām positive I had contributed but couldnāt find my entry. B2 has something on there I think.
Iāll send her a PM and ask how she did thatā¦I assume itās as easy as just taking it to a Word doc and using a template? Anyhowā¦.I think it would be a good addition to our little community as we seem to have a fair amount of good cooks hanging around this Cafe/Pub/All night greasy spoon!
I started it with @cascadiabound and then other bits of Lit and life took over. Cas and I wanted an aesthetic and easy to search thread. I droppped them all a little.Wow! That thread is amazing! You arenāt having trouble posting images anymore, are you? Pls let me know if so. Iāll message the powers that be.The thread had been bumping along but I had an issue with an image I posted in a different thread (I think it was a rainbow photo of the dog park) and all almost all my photos were removed. I thought I had replaced everyoneās recipes but I may have missed yours. I will look through my recipes and PMās to see what I can find out.
Thanks for saying something. My goal is that all recipes submitted should be posted.
No. Iām not having any issues. Honestly, I did my best to fix the thread and then was a little disheartened about it and then life/Lit went other directions and I didnāt give it the love it deserved. Thank you for asking thoughYou arenāt having trouble posting images anymore, are you? Pls let me know if so. Iāll message the powers that be.
Any and all recipes. Our goal was ones you have tried and have insight into. What are your go to recipes. We broke it down by type of food and I think we started a key for if it easy or more advanced? But any input is great. Does it always work or is it finicky? What tweaks have you tried? Things like that.@Photog1rl What kinds of recipes do you want?
I will send you a few things shortlyAny and all recipes. Our goal was ones you have tried and have insight into. What are your go to recipes. Same boat today as you were last week @Oldermom935ā¦
Minding my own business planting punkins and tomatoes in the garden when I heard a big craaaaaaack. Then a boom of an electrical transformer.
Went running up the street and saw all the lines down. No power. luckily we have a generator.
Thisāll take a few daysā¦itās JCP&L after all.
The fun never ends!
Yeah! You made it! I was going to attempt to make something similar here in the old folks home, so we didnāt clutter up the younāuns threads on the PG!The thread had been bumping along but I had an issue with an image I posted in a different thread (I think it was a rainbow photo of the dog park) and all almost all my photos were removed. @sallysparrow23 has been contributing with her bread recipes and others have been posting too.
It would be great to really get it going again. What we did before is folks pmād me their recipe and a photo and I made a card for it.
If that works I could keep doing it. Let me know if y'all are interested or if you just want to do the same thing here I just used a canva template that I modified.![]()
Thatās probably more along the lines of how it is. Now that you mention it, I remember hearing that it started with prohibition. I didnāt know the sherry barrels had been used that long!Donāt know if it applies to āallā Scotch; however, during prohibition in the U.S. whiskey barrels were āone and doneā and found there way to Scotch distillers.
The use of sherry and port barrels goes back a couple of centuries when it was imported to England in barrels and then bottled there which left a lot of cheap empty barrels around to be repurposed.
Oh dear Lili I think I might have touched your friends nerve so as a gentleman I apologise. As for you, rather than your friend, I never saw you as a girl who wasnāt brought up right. I saw your post saying your parents both served . Experience has just taught me thatā¦ā¦oh sorry canāt say. Gentlemen never kiss and tell! So, you're not interested in the girls who WEREN'T brought up right, G? Or, maybe, those who were but then slipped a bit?
Asking for a friend, of course!!![]()
